About the property

Studio in 10 unit 1963 Kama`aina Style Building

Guests often comment that our studio exceeded their expectations. We imagine it's because of the recent extensive renovation (finished April 2015). It was a complete renovation and all work was done by professionals. The studio has a Good-sized and Functional Kitchen, a Direct View to the Beach, Free and Convenient parking, and of course, WiFi. There's an Outdoor BBQ at the Beach Park across the street, or a table top electric one you can use on the lanai. The beach also has a VolleyBall court. And the Kona Trolley can take you the few miles north to the heart of Kailua-Kona too.

Dolphins play just offshore at La`aloa Bay (often called Magic Sands Beach) and are great fun to watch. Last winter a mama humpback and her calf lolled just off-shore for weeks! People were swimming out to see them, but as you can imagine, the life-guards at the beach "reminded" them that it is illegal to approach wildlife.

This studio is just far enough out of town to see stars at night, yet, close enough for easy access to all that Kailua-Kona offers. It's 4 miles from the Kailua Pier, and about 3 miles to where town starts. And, they are flat miles. You could easily take the Kona Trolley one direction and walk the other.

The Venetian plastered walls and ceiling, as well as the wood floors, give a wonderful feel to the studio while the vintage Rattan furniture is charming and comfortable. The natural edge Mango Wood Bar has the view! And there is a full-sized desk, in case you need that. The Queen-Sized Bed is very comfortable --just as Goldilocks would like -- not too firm, not too soft. The kitchen has local hardwood (Silky Oak) cabinets, granite counter tops, plenty of storage, nice/sharp knives, nice/heavy stainless cook-ware--basically anything you would need. A full-sized refrigerator makes longer stays easy. Coffee maker, french press, coffee grinder, microwave, toaster-oven, regular toaster, all stainless pans, and plenty of kitchen-ware are all there for your use. There are even cloth napkins and Grohe faucets in the kitchen and bath. There's a shared, coin-operated washer and dryer for the building. Great for longer stays! Strong ceiling fans that really move the air -- one in the main area and one in the kitchen. There is also an iron and a small ironing board--just in case you need to look spiffy!

There are a few sets of snorkel gear so you can check out the clear Kona waters and the super-colorful tropical fishes. We do suggest you bring your own, or rent from a local company, if you are serious about your equipment. You can quickly walk to at least 3 spots to get in (and more importantly, get out) of the ocean. You'll be seeing reef fish almost immediately--and as you go out a bit it only gets better. Kahala`u Beach Park is considered by many the best close snorkel spot and we would call it Snorkeling 101 because it's inside a reef. Personally, we prefer going in at Magic Sands (or just slightly north or south of Magic Sands) because the water is deeper, the coral is less disturbed, and the fish are just as plentiful. You can decide which you like better!

Since we are on-island residents and "neat-nics", we are proud of the fact that there are few places for bugs to get inside, nor are there many places for them to live. In our recent renovation, we were amazed how many nooks, crannies, and cracks we eliminated.

Having lived on island for 35 years, we've experienced many different locations. Jack stayed in one of these apartments in the early 1980's and loved the excellent ventilation due to the ocean breezes. It made sleeping there great--and hearing the ocean too. So, we had the opportunity to purchase recently, and we jumped on it! After an extensive renovation, it's now ready for you.

Why Barbara Bell chose Kona Coast

We LOVE to Body Surf! And the snorkeling is very good right here too! We love the old-style building, directly facing the beach, with ample parking, and a big grassy lawn. Basically it's obvious that the building is from a by-gone era from the generously-sized lot, with only 10 units. In addition, the County recently purchased, as part of an island-wide effort to keep open space in important public spaces, the parcel to the north and behind the property. This means there is only one neighboring building, just to the south--rare in the heart of Kona.

What makes this condo unique

Did we mention the beach? Also, the building, being built in 1963, has great history. Plenty of people seek out this building because the beach view is direct -- no leaning out from your lanai to see the ocean. And, there are some great long-term tenants--the building has a great vibe, and tenants (long or short) tend to be very friendly.

  • Large tiled shower, toilet, counter space and sink. Grohe faucet, and tile floor. Bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths, and Beach towels. Also, hand soap, and shampoo. And, Toilet Paper is provided. We know this sounds crazy, but we once stayed somewhere that provided 'starter' rolls. WOW, not the best experience.

Notes:
A few extra notes: * The 2 ceiling fans add an extra breeze, if needed. * While there is now a washer and dryer on site--there is a great full-service laundromat (Tykes) in Kailua-Kona. They charge by the pound for a wash, dry, and fold service. * You will want to touch these walls! They are so smooth as they were professionally crafted with Italian plaster made from limestone and marble dust. Thanks Dustin--beautiful work!

Perfect location and accommodation!

The owners did an excellent job describing this property. Everything they said was exactly how it was described when we arrived and all the amenities worked!

My husband and I traveled the entire Island during the 8 days we were here. The beach across the street from this property was far the best sand beach we've experienced. The owner was very friendly and the transaction was simple. I will definitely comeback and stay here again.

Fun and beautiful condo, ideal location!

We rented this beautiful little condo for an impromptu weekend in Kailua-Kona. What a lovely treat! Ideal location, just steps from Magic Sands beach; a popular local hang-out. Also close to town so we could enjoy down town restaurants and sights, without a long commute.

Clean and spacious, with a well-equiped kitchen for eating in. Great price, welcoming neighbors and laid back, friendly management.

Thanks so much, Jack and Barbara!

We will definately be back for another weekend!

Perfect space for a perfect rate!

My husband and I had a most magical week at the condo, sleeping to sound of the crashing waves with the patio door open and enjoying our meals on the lanai, with the ocean across the (busy) street.

The bathroom and kitchen are renovated: modern and completely functional with full sized fridge, microwave, stove top, etc. We had dinner in Kailu-Kona a couple of nights- walked there once but it's about 3.4 miles away.

We were blessed with sunny skies and perfect temps every day- but does it ever rain on this Coast of the Island? :)

Finally, Barbara was super easy to communicate with and the surrounding condo neighbors were warm and welcoming!

I highly recommend this little condo!

Perfect. Neighbors friendly. great location and view.

Everything was exactly as advertised. right across from magic sands beach. Beautiful sunsets. Close to stores and grocery stores, but away from the Kona crowds. Barb had everything set up and we moved in and had a lovely week. could not ask for a better place to stay.

Kailua-Kona is a treasure trove of recreational opportunities. Get in the water for snorkeling, surfing, body-surfing, boogie-boarding, or plain old swimming right across the street. And if the Magic sand is also on vacation, go north or south on foot for 2 minutes and you have other get-in/get-out locations.

Weekly rates are pro-rated for stays longer than 7 nights.
Security deposit is 100% refundable, as long as the studio is in good shape upon your departure. Security deposit returned in about 7 days after departure.
Amount close to 50% of nightly fees required to confirm dates.
Balance due 14 days before arrival.
Cancellation Policy: If you wish to cancel your reservation, the deposit will be refunded as follows:
• More than 90 days before your arrival: You will receive your deposit, minus $100 cancellation fee.
• Less than 90 days before your arrival: You will forfeit your deposit. However, we will always work to re-book. If we can re-book, we will refund based on 80% of the nightly rate for the nights we have re-booked, less $100 cancellation fee.
• If reservation is changed, a change fee of $50 applies. We will discuss this at the time of change, and if it is minor, no change fee is required. (Example of a minor change is shifting nights, with no change in charges.)
• We make every effort to re-book. We really are not trying to keep your $ for no reason.
