We wanted a great view of the mountains ,but also wanted a yard!
A private secluded vacation home that provides tranquil southwestern views and amazing sunsets and picturesque nighttime sky's.
We found this amazing home as a last minute Memorial Day weekend getaway. The view when you open the front door is breathtaking. Traveling with 5 kids ranging in age from 6-17 and 2 adults. This house has it all! It is spacious enough for a group yet cozy enough for just 2. Beautifully landscaped nice big yard, we put up a tent for the younger ones and had s'mores in the fire pit every night after the beautiful sunset. The house is very well appointed, kitchen is lovely and has everything you need. Furnishings, beds, linens all upscale. The back porch is amazing, the bed swing was so nice and relaxing. Convenient to NOC, Tsali, downtown Bryson City. Deep creek is a fun area for kids with fishing and tubing. My only wish is we could have stayed longer. I rent often from VRBO and I fell in love with this home, it is a very special place. Cathy and Chuck are great and will help with whatever you need. This house is a gem I cant wait to return...for a longer stay :)
This house is super cozy and clean. It has stunning views and a fantastic kitchen. For a vacation rental the kitchen is very well equipped, and even has sharp knives. It's a bit of a challenge to get there - up a mountain and gravel roads, definitely take the owners advice and come the first time in daylight. Once you've done it the first time though it's a lot easier. Owner communicates very well - very responsive. We had a minor issue with the kitchen sink and it was fixed within a few hours She even did a little holiday decorating before we arrived. It was charming. They have a ton of games, books and other activities so even if you're stuck inside because of weather there is plenty to do. Plus the view!! It never gets old.
We love this house, and the town of Bryson City. We will definitely be back. The Polar Express itself was just Ok. But the quaint town, chocolate shoppe and other activities made up for it.
This was our second stay. The view is mind-boggling AND therapeutic. Be prepared to live on the fabulous porch. It was the ideal place to celebrate my Dad's 90th birthday. Can't say enough about the Mayhughs' responsiveness when we had questions. Saw the Space Station fly over twice...up close! ;)
From the moment we arrived we felt elated by the natural beauty of the mountains and the stunning warmth of Catherine's home. We were so grateful for the excellent directions and that we arrived in daylight.
We were greeted by a sweet "welcome' sign on the porch and it was easy to punch in the code and unlock the door. The house is just as beautiful as the pictures on the listing. We were two couples and loved having so much space to ourselves.
The kitchen is well outfitted for cooking ..great knives and pots and pans, and we enjoyed preparing our meals and having such nice dishes and glassware, etc...Be sure to bring coffee, etc...
There is a supply of condiments and salad dressings in the refrigerator.
The dining room table and chairs are very comfortable and most evenings after dinner we sat around the table and played cards.
There is a wonderful collection of CD's and movies, but because the weather was so beautiful we spent most of our time on the porches. Both the front and back porches have very comfortable furniture and plenty of tables for drinks, books, snacks, etc... I really appreciated that everything was so clean, even the outdoor furniture and tables were spotless!
We spent a bit of time around the firepit, making s'mores and visiting. It's a lovely spot.
Once you've driven back and forth to the home it really is no big deal. We went horseback riding, river rafting and to a couple of the waterfalls in Highlands. All of which I highly recommend. We had lunch at Highlands BBQ and we all liked our lunch and the service.
We enjoyed staying home after our days out and about, but did have dinner at Pasquale's in Bryson City on our last night. It was pretty good. The Marsala was amazing, the chicken parmigiana not so much. But we had a great time there and our waiter was really nice.
We appreciated being able to do laundry at the house as we were mucking about in nature and didn't want to bring our wet clothes home. Bring detergent.
It's such a lovely spot and Catherine has really done such a great job of making the home comfortable and elegant at the same time. All the furnishings, art, bed linens and decor are beautiful and you can tell they were specially chosen, not just things to furnish a 'rental', but items one would choose to make a home that is well loved.
I really appreciate that Catherine shares her special retreat with all of us.
I have vacationed in the Smokey Mountains all my life and have rented numerous homes but never nothing as breathing taking as this. From the awesome view of the smokies to the magnificent features of the home. The owners of this property are amazing as well. My wife and I actually got married on the property and the owners were so helpful and kind to us on this special day. I will never stay at another home in the smokies beside here. We felt so much at home and are planning to return every year for our anniversary. If your looking for an amazing vacation rental look no further. From the awesome view from the porch to the coziness of the stone fireplace pit in the backyard this home has everything anyone could ask for. Thanks to the owners for all you guys did for us on our special day. We can't wait to return!
We had a wonderful five day stay in the cabin. It is at the top of one of the mountains very close to Bryson City. The view is spectacular with sliding glass doors across the front of the cabin overlooking the valley giving you an unbelievable view. We woke up every morning looking over the tops of the clouds drifting below us. The cabin itself is fantastic with a very large living area and open kitchen in the middle and bedrooms off either side of the living area. The drive up the mountain can be a little nerve racking for flatlanders with some semi steep grades, however; you soon become accustomed to the trek to the top after a few trips up and down the mountain. The view is well worth the drive. The cabin was extremely clean and has been taken care of very well. The owners are great and do everything to make your stay very inviting. Great, great location. Would not want to be anywhere else in the smoky mountains. Day 1 White water rafting Day 2 grandparents took 12 year old son gem mining (found 10 carats in sapphires) at Mason's ruby and sapphire mine and we took our 16 year old daughter to the Biltmore. Day 3 went to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge including zip lining, go carting, and riding a mountain roller coaster. Day 4 tubing at deep creek park (great tubing in Bryson City) Day 5 left very tired to go back to the coast of NC. Fantastic week, amazing location, spectacular cabin! Thank you so much Catherine!
