Overview

About the property

Kid friendly, 5 bedroom, 3 Bath House w/ small creek and pond close to deadwood

This is a great place to get away and relax with the family. In the summer; there are fishing poles for the kids to fish in the pond, a playhouse, and a couple of kids and adult mountain bikes to ride. There is a deck and a fire pit for sitting around and laughing and telling stories, oh, and also for tasty smores. In the fall; we are close to hunting and have places to shoot for sighting in rifles. In the winter; there is good cross county skiing, sledding, if the weather has cooperated sometimes ice skating, a gorgeous wood fireplace for ambiance and lots of windows to watch the snow fall. We are also about 30 min. from Terry Peak. The house sits on a well maintained gravel road,* 4 miles from Hwy 85, 15 min. from Deadwood, 20-25 min. from Sturgis and 30 min. from Spearfish. If you have any questions or needs, just ask, we are right over the hill and happy to help!

Ask about our last minute discounts!

*Due to the ice on the roads in the winter, 4 wheel drive is highly recommended.

About Erica Spurrier

We have been living in the house since 2007 but are starting a farm over the hill from this house and decided we need to be closer to our work. This summer, 2015, we will be moving over to the new place and have decided to rent this house as a vacation rental.

Erica Spurrier purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Erica Spurrier chose Sturgis

Our family goes back to the homesteading days in South Dakota and we moved back to the Hills to be closer to family. We are big fans of snow and skiing so we choose property in the Northern Hills where the ground is covered with snow in the winter. We thought this piece of property would be fun for the kids with the little creek and pond and they do enjoy it!

Perfectly fit our families needs.

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was perfect for our family. Just the right amount of space. Everything is very spacious and beautiful. It was very relaxing the little bit of time we spent there. The basement was awesome for the children to go to play in without running through the entire house making so much noise, since it was so cool and rainy outside for them to run outside.

Very clean and lots of room for the 10 of us.

A little difficult to find. No cell phone coverage and limited internet. The kitchen was well stocked with plenty of items. The kitchen was very modern. It was very peaceful.

Beautiful home!

  • 4 of 5

This home is beautiful and spacious. It was well stocked and very clean. The property is nice and perfect for a family getaway. I will tell you that you will have no cellular signal here at all, which some of us didn't care about this. After all your on vacation, why do you need to be on your phone? But some people will care so I wanted to make this known. You will need to make the drive to the end of two bit road to find a signal which is approximately five minutes... I really don't want to complain about anything at this home but feel I need to be completely honest and straightforward so that others know. The one and only actual complaint that anyone in our party really had was the smell of the water. It was BAD!! I do think something should be done about that. We had bottled water to drink thank goodness because I would never have drank the water there. It was difficult to even shower with the smell. Other than that this place is absolutely perfect! We would stay here again!

Owner's Response: I apologize, our system must have been out of softener. I wish we had known, we could have brought more up. We also have a reverse osmosis unit on the small kitchen sink. Unfortunately, there is not cell coverage in our area. We have a verizon booster in the basement, maybe it isn't working. We will check it out. Thank you for your feedback. It helps us keep the house in good shape for the next renters.

The cabin was beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

Be sure to follow the directions given to the cabin because Google Maps gives a very rough way here. We had 13 adults and the cabin seemed roomy! We made breakfast and dinner in the kitchen each day and the dining area was able to fit all of us at one table! Each day was beautiful being surrounded by the hills and wildlife. Erica was quick at answering any issues that arise! The cabin is located in a great area and relatively close to the main attractions in South Dakota! The whole trip was amazing and worth staying in one cabin together!

It was gorgeous! So peaceful, and everything we needed was already there.

  • 5 of 5

Our first thought when we walked around the cabin, the pictures online do not do the cabin justice. It was more beautiful then we could have imagined, inside and out. The discription said they had everything there, and they did. Of course we over packed (we always do), but next time we can pack light and save the room. Already talking about our next trip to the Black Hills. Thank you for helping us make these amazing family memories. I only wish I would have planned in an extra day so we could have spent more time at the cabin.

Thank you,

The Broadbent Family

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully located in the Black Hills. It was quite a drive to Mount Rushmore and Custer Park, but the scenic drive was well worth it. The photos do not do justice to how beautiful and huge the cabin really is. The amenities were great and well stocked. The cabin had everything we needed plus more. We had a large group of 8 adults and 13 kids (ranging from 6 months old to 16 years old). The children especially enjoyed their time at the cabin as it was super kid friendly. The teenagers woke up early every morning to fish at the pond and they actually caught fishes. Again, the location was amazing!

The owners were hospitable and attentive. Thank you Erica! We had a wonderful and relaxing stay at your cabin.

The cabin is located on a gravel road. There is a small creek in front of the house which is great for kids to play in. There is also a small pond for fishing. It is about 1/2 mile to two track trails that are nice for various recreational activities. The Forest Service motorized trails are about 8 miles away.

The cabin is about 15 min from Deadwood. Deadwood is full of wild west and mining history and still is a gambling town. There are multiple museums including: the Adams House, first house with electricity using a generator in the area; the Adams Museum, an excellent mining history museum; Tatanka, a Lakota/Buffalo history museum; Days of 76 with lots of old wagons.

We are 15 min from Boulder Canyon Golf Course. 30 min. from the Lead and Tomahawk Golf Courses.

We are 30 minutes from Terry Peak Ski Area and Spearfish Canyon. Spearfish Canyon has beautiful waterfalls, great hiking trails .

The cabin is about a 1 1/2h drive to Mount Rushmore and Custer State Park. Although a bit of a drive to the Southern amenities, it is quieter and there is less traffic in the northern hills in the height of tourist season. We take day trips down to the southern hills and have a great time. Silvan Lake in Custer State Park is a great place to visit with hiking trails, swimming, kayaks and paddle boats to rent and great climbing.
