Overview

About the property

5 Bedroom, 3,700 Sf Home With Sauna, Hot Tub and Trails Galore

Experience mountain living just 6 miles from downtown Bozeman and only 2 miles off Interstate 90.

Wake to breathtaking views of Mount Ellis perfectly framed in the 25' wall of windows. Bask in the morning sun while having breakfast on the southern exposed 800 sf deck. You'll be serenaded by the sounds of gurgling water from Bear Creek and entertained by the wildlife frolicking in the meadow below.

After breakfast, hike down to Bear Creek, which is just at the bottom of your driveway. Follow the creek to the Bear Canyon trail head. The well-maintained trail follows Bear Creek up the lush, spectacular canyon and eventually to the Bear Lakes. This trail stays close to the cascading waters of the creek, gaining relatively little elevation making for an easy hike and very pleasurable experience.

You'll have to hustle to be home in time for lunch. After lunch the more adventurous among you strike out to climb Mount Ellis. After heading back down the driveway and across Bear Creek, you will face a climb that culminates at Mount Ellis' 7,700 ft. summit--3,000 ft. higher than where you started. The climb is worth every drop of sweat, as the summits' vistas are indescribable.

For those less bold, shopping in historic downtown Bozeman awaits. With loads of unique shops and art galleries, Bozeman is a shopper's paradise. The city also hosts "music on main" every Thursday throughout the summer, where a portion of main street is blocked off for free concerts that showcase local musical talent.

After everyone arrives home from their afternoon excursions, you gather together to share food and stories on the deck. From there you migrate to the hot tub on the far end of the deck to soak your weary muscles. As you lean your head back to take in the Montana sky you whisper to yourself... this will be a day I will always remember!

Finding a home on 20 mountainous acres within 5 minutes from downtown Bozeman is exceedingly rare. Besides the fact Bear Canyon is breathtakingly beautiful, the home will saturate your senses, while keeping you comfortable. It is loaded with glass and perfectly situated to soak in the stunning outdoors, while being equally as stunning inside. Soaring ceilings clad in wood are supported by massive wood beams in every room. Each level of the home has a theme: western, Native American and wildlife, with corresponding art, in many cases originals, adorning the walls. Every bedroom is outfitted with a sleep number bed that allows each guest to determine the firmness of their side of the mattress. All counter tops are granite and showers are tiled. Hardwood and slate flooring can be found throughout. A sauna and hot tub provide relaxation for weary muscles, while fitness equipment allows you to tone them. Two 60" flat screen televisions provide electronic entertainment if desired. A fully equipped kitchen along with a gas stove/oven and Weber grill enhance the cooking experience. Though opening the windows to the mountain air is typically sufficient for cooling in the summer months, the home is equipped with central air. For cooler seasons, the home has a state-of-the-art forced air furnace, along with a wood stove and gas fireplace to add coziness and comfort. The property also boasts a detached 3 car garage.

About Wade Shafer

We are transplanted Minnesotans... came to Bozeman for our careers... and the warm weather! We formerly had a vacation rental in Detroit Lakes, MN listed on VRBO. Though we appreciated the cash flow, we really enjoyed meeting people from all over the country... some of whom we developed friendships with. Given our prior experience, we decided to buy a home in Bozeman for the same purpose. We just hosted our first guests in May '15.

Rural Retreat Just Minutes from Town

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Wade and Kathy's property with family and friends who came in for our son's graduation. We had plenty of space to visit and play—both inside and out! From our first coffee on the deck to our sundowner hikes, we enjoyed our visit immensely.

We were so pleased to have a gorgeous view from every single window, and a beautiful kitchen made it a breeze to prepare a celebratory dinner for 10 guests!

This property feels very remote due to the acreage around the home, but you really are just 10 minutes from town! Even making an airport run to pick up friends whose flights were delayed was quick and easy. You are 5 minutes from the interstate, and in about 15 additional minutes you can pull right up at the airport.

As noted by other reviewers, the downstairs bedroom and the loft bedroom aren't totally closed off, but we made it work just fine! The guests using the main floor bedrooms needed to either climb or descend stairs to shower, so guests who have limitations might need access to the master bedroom bathroom to shower.

Be sure to hike up the trail behind the property, or go for a hike at the end of the road through the forest area. We needed a hike after enjoying goodies from Wild Crumb and the Co-Op.

Thanks, Wade and Kathy, for making our graduation week so very memorable!

Great way to enjoy Montana Skiing

  • 5 of 5

We had the opportunity to stay at this property just outside of Bozeman and we had a great time with our 4 boys and friends with 2 kids. The location is just outside of Bozeman and worked great as it was only a few minutes to town for groceries or a great restaurant. We really enjoyed the mountain views in the morning and the peaceful nights. We are very active and skied several days at Bridger Bowl, which is about 30 minutes from the property and we also hit up Big Sky (1.5 hr drive) for a day. We found the ski lessons to be great at both Bridger & Big Sky for the younger kids while Bridger's more compact nature made it easy to find everyone throughout the day. The house is very clean and features modern sleep number beds and an outstanding kitchen with a gas stove. We also had the opportunity to grill outside and enjoy the hot tub after a long days at the hill. In addition, if you need a day off of skiing then I would highly recommend the Bozeman hot springs (15 minute drive), which was extremely relaxing and a great way for the family to rest up after a couple of days of hard skiing. We also really appreciated the opportunity to skip the rental lines at the hill by renting equipment for the boys at round about sports in Bozeman.

Breathtaking views, peaceful get-a-way.

  • 5 of 5

This home is amazing. We took clients, industry partners and team members on a retreat to Bozeman and I was lucky enough to pick this home for my group. This home is exactly what you want when visiting Bozeman. The wrap around deck with multiple sitting areas was so perfect for our group. Sitting outside visiting and sipping wine looking at the views - it doesn't get any better than this. The furnishings in the home were high end with a "ranch" feel to them. We didn't get to try out the dry sauna or the hot tub with our schedules but they both looked really clean and well cared for. The house is minutes from downtown Bozeman making it easy to get around. I recommend renting a four wheel drive vehicle to get up the gravel driveway. A few of us grabbed an Uber to the airport and a regular vehicle can make it up the drive but certainly a four wheel vehicle is much easier. The bedroom upstairs is in an open loft so it needs to be someone that is ok with no doors. They have a shower/bathroom right off the loft area. The downstairs bedroom also does not have doors but you can shut off the downstairs with a door for privacy. This bedroom also had a shower/bath right connected to the room. The master bedroom is huge and the bathroom is really nice with a big oversized tub and separate shower. The additional bedrooms on the main floor are private and can share the downstairs bathroom but there is no shower so those guests used the one upstairs. Our clients were very pleased with our accommodations and we will plan to rent the house again next year. This one is a gem!

Outstanding property

  • 5 of 5

A group of us from Portland came to Bozeman for a wedding over Labor Day weekend - I was lucky enough to have found this property to make our stay very enjoyable! The house was unique & very comfortable. I have to say this was the first time I've ever really felt "at home" at a rental property. The owners were very accommodating & we found it very inviting, relaxing, warm - even saw a bear! When I'm back in Bozeman, I will once again seek out a stay here!

Amazing location and house in the mountains!

  • 5 of 5

Our group stayed at this Bear Canyon home for a week and it was an amazing location. Everything from the views to the accommodations were excellent. It is a short drive to downtown Bozeman and was our own little paradise for our entire trip. We were a group of 10 and the house was more than adequate for all of us. The hot tub and outdoor deck were the most frequented parts of the house.

A True Montana Experience!

  • 5 of 5

We were excited to find this house for our vacation week in July with family and friends who were driving and flying in from various states. We wanted a 5 bedroom house so everybody could have their own space but, alot of the other houses we viewed online looked like something we could get in Seattle! We wanted that true Montana flavor and this did not disappoint. Fabulous surroundings inside and out featured fun western theme furnishings and beautifuls wood finishes. We saw a moose the first day and 3-4 deer early morning everyday and lots of bunnies on the driveway. We took in the local fun - Yellowstone one day, Ziplining and Hiking another day and Horseback riding, Distillery Whiskey tasting and Music on Main on the Thursday. We had scheduled a river float but, cancelled it as we wanted to have more time in the house! There is a hiking/biking trail at the end of Bear Canyon road, not too far at all that I can recommend. There is a fabulous sauna downstairs but, with so much to do we did not get time this visit for that experience. We did use the hot tub each night however which overlooked a vast view of some mountains and far off farms. The deck with the log furniture was great and we did the wine and appetizer thing out there most nights. Cooking and eating around the big table was great for family bonding and the island was plenty big to work on and display our buffet items. We brought some kitchen items with us but, everything was already there so did not need them. We had 2 teenagers which we put in the downstairs walkout 'suite'. They were in heaven down there. Lots and lots of space for our group of 8. The owners were very friendly and got back to us quickly on questions before our trip. They greeted us at the house which has never happened on a rental before. Thanks to Wade for providing the backdrop for our wonderful family gathering. I can't think of a single thing to complain about. This rental represents Bozeman and Montana so well! Warning: 4 nights is not enough!
