Lake House - Skaneateles Lake

Sleeps10
Bedrooms 3

Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

Overview

About the property

The cottage is located on a quiet dead end-road directly on the waters of Skaneateles Lake. The house has been designed to bring the views and atmosphere of the lake inside by the use of sliding glass doors, movable walls and a large integrated porch at the center of the cottage. The lake is visible from all 3 bedrooms. There is 125 feet of lake frontage including dock, sea wall and shale beach all in very close proximity to the cottage. The access to the lake is flat - either by our sea wall or beach. The back yard on the lake side is largely private from the neighbors due to the angled shape of the house, landscaping and the size of the property.

Skaneateles Lake is a reservoir for the City of Syracuse. It is considered the cleanest of the Finger Lakes. The Finger Lakes Land Trust is trying to create a necklace of green space around the south end of the lake to help preserve the forest land. They have a preserve directly behind our property (the trail is accessible from off of route 41).

Notes:
The cell reception is spotty. Sometimes it works in the house, but I can almost always get through out on the dock. The problem is that the lake is in a deep valley and the tower is on top of the hill. Texting from the cottage works fine, at least with Verizon. Because there is no access to cable we cannot provide WiFi. While it is possible to get service from a cell carrier, the small bandwidth allotment makes it impossible for us to offer it. There is a coffee bar (Origins by Coffee Mania) with free WiFi 15 minutes away in Homer. It is right at the corner of route 281 and 41 where you turn to come up to the cottage (95 Clinton St, Homer, NY). There is another small cottage on the property that is not part of the rental; it is sometimes occupied.

Great sunsets and lake views, plenty of privacy, deep clear water to dive into.

Pleasant!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I along with our labradoodle rented this property with a younger couple who have two toddlers. The property couldn't be more perfect for people looking for a place without stairs to the water. Truly at lake level. We had access to a dock and lawn which we were able to have campfires at night. There was ample space for the six of us + our dog. There was a lovely dining area which was screened in that gives you the sense of eating outside while being protected by screen if there were flies or other insects around. It was very quiet, clean and a lot of fun!! I would definitely rent here again. The owner couldn't be more acccomodating.

Lakefront house

  • 2 of 5

The location was great...right on the lake with a large grassy yard at the back of the house by the water. There was a big screened -in porch. Unfortunately we felt the carpet and furniture were rather shabby and dirty. New linens and an update would make it great!

Owner's Response: We are in the process of updating the older furniture and will have that done by next season. The carpet is cleaned regularly, but since it is such a light color it shows every little spot (after the lawn is mowed and grass sticks to people's shoes, for example).

Additional information about rental rates

Please note that the cottage is in a remote location. There is a small country store about 10 minutes up the road (basic groceries, beer, etc.). For restaurants, grocery store, shops etc, the village of Skaneateles is abut 25 minutes away. This is a quaint tourist town that a lot of people visit in the summer. They also have boat tours of the lake.

Homer/Cortland is nearby (about 20 minutes). All the basics that you would find in a small upstate city are available there.

The local neighborhood consists of mostly vacation homes owned by families, some of whom have small children. Please respect their privacy by keeping quiet after 10 pm.

Our check in time is between 3 pm to 9 pm; we cannot accommodate check in after 9 pm.

Our check out time is 11 am.

Please park in the field behind the house, not on the side of the road.

We do have an oven, but it is a small counter-top model, not big enough for a turkey or pizza.

Please do not use any of our boats.

Please read the Cottage Welcome Info sheet that you will find on the front hall table when you check in.

The cottage is non-smoking. You are welcome to smoke outside the house, but please clean up when you do.

My mother has some folk art from the rural South that depicts various religious and social scenes (the Last Supper, a "shotgun" wedding, angels, spacecraft). These objects do not represent our beliefs and are in no way reflective of our views about your beliefs.
