Open-plan architect-designed cottage featuring lake views from all rooms, large central stone fireplace, elevated ceilings, stone flooring, bevel-edge wood walls, and lots of light. Large porch for lakeside dining and relaxing. Spectacular views of the lake in both directions. Located on a quiet dead end-road. 125 feet of lake frontage with flat access. Lake side privacy due to the shape and location of the house and landscaping. Sunny side and quiet end of lake (east side, south end).
Skaneateles Lake is a reservoir for the City of Syracuse. It is considered the cleanest of the Finger Lakes. There is a Finger Lakes Land Trust preserve directly behind our property (the trail is accessible from route 41). There are multiple parks and preserves (Bear Swamp State Forest, High Vista preserve etc.) surrounding the south end of the lake; the Land Trust is working to preserve this natural setting by connecting these properties into an “emerald necklace” around the south end.
The village of Skaneateles, 25 minutes to the north, is a well-known shopping, dining and tourist destination. They hold a music festival and boat show, have polo matches, run tour boat cruises and dinner cruises, and have free town band concerts. The town has many very fine restaurants from classic Victorian nine and twelve course meals at the Krebs to Doug’s Fish Fry, a local favorite. Boat rentals are available at the Skaneateles Marina a few miles south of the village.

The location was great...right on the lake with a large grassy yard at the back of the house by the water. There was a big screened -in porch. Unfortunately we felt the carpet and furniture were rather shabby and dirty. New linens and an update would make it great!
We are in the process of updating the older furniture and will have that done by next season. The carpet is cleaned regularly, but since it is such a light color it shows every little spot (after the lawn is mowed and grass sticks to people's shoes, for example).
My husband and I along with our labradoodle rented this property with a younger couple who have two toddlers. The property couldn't be more perfect for people looking for a place without stairs to the water. Truly at lake level. We had access to a dock and lawn which we were able to have campfires at night. There was ample space for the six of us + our dog. There was a lovely dining area which was screened in that gives you the sense of eating outside while being protected by screen if there were flies or other insects around. It was very quiet, clean and a lot of fun!! I would definitely rent here again. The owner couldn't be more acccomodating.
Awesome location with tons of space
This is a great location with level lake frontage. There is a lot of space inside and one bedroom even has bunk beds for kids. I also love that the property had board games- great rainy day activity. The owner even let us borrow his canoe. The house is also located on a very quiet street so it is great to wake up to the quiet lake in the mornings.
Great location on West side of the lake.
Great sunsets and lake views, plenty of privacy, deep clear water to dive into.
Additional information about rental rates
Please note that the cottage is in a remote location. There is a small country store about 10 minutes up the road (basic groceries, beer, etc.). For restaurants, grocery store, shops etc, the village of Skaneateles is abut 25 minutes away. This is a quaint tourist town that a lot of people visit in the summer. They also have boat tours of the lake. Homer/Cortland is nearby (about 20 minutes). All the basics that you would find in a small upstate city are available there. The local neighborhood consists of mostly vacation homes owned by families, some of whom have small children. Please respect their privacy by keeping quiet after 10 pm. Our check in time is between 3 pm to 9 pm; we cannot accommodate check in after 9 pm. Our check out time is 11 am. Please park in the field behind the house, not on the side of the road. We do have an oven, but it is a small counter-top model, not big enough for a turkey or pizza. Please do not use any of our boats. Please read the Cottage Welcome Info sheet that you will find on the front hall table when you check in. The cottage is non-smoking. You are welcome to smoke outside the house, but please clean up when you do. My mother has some folk art from the rural South that depicts various religious and social scenes (the Last Supper, a "shotgun" wedding, angels, spacecraft).
