Newly remodeled with a stylish eye, this fabulous condo takes full advantage of its great location and views. With two comfortable bedrooms, a river rock bathroom shower, a spacious, well-appointed kitchen and a stunning living room that opens onto a lovely tiled lanai, you may not want to leave the condo.

But even with all the conveniences of home, the location near downtown Hilo in the Keaukaha area lends itself to exploration. The famed Hilo Farmer's Market is just minutes away, as well the Lyman Museum, the Imiloa Astronomy Center and all the great natural wonders of the Hilo district.

You barely have to leave the property to jump into the ocean as Maunaloa Shores sits next to one of the more well-known and loved beach parks in town. All along the ocean in this area are differing beaches and ocean access points. Try them all! Don't forget to look for the humpback whales during the winter months - just like people, the whales come here to escape the cold.

Mauna Loa Shores is in Keaukaha, Hilo's recreational area where numerous beach parks can be found. Carlsmith Beach Park is right next door, with Richardson's, Onekahakaha, Leleiwi and Four Mile beach parks all within a short drive. Fine dining at the Seaside Restaurant is right across the street. The Hilo Bayfront, with more restaurants, shops, and entertainment, is a 10 minute drive, as are most other sights in Hilo. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is less than an hour away.

Relaxing option with great location for beach parks

We loved the location, a 10 minute drive from downtown but next to the Hilo beach parks. Easy access for driving to nearby attractions, including Volcano National Park, Pahoa, and lava viewing. The sound of waves and frogs at night were an unexpected lullaby with the tree canopy on the other side of the pool from the master bedroom window. The toaster didn't work, the bedroom ceiling fans and bathroom vent were covered with a thick layer of dust, and the vacuum in the closet wasn't functioning to clean them. Response time from management to ask about a key that was specified in our directions but not included in the lockbox was 24 hours, so we didn't bother to ask about a Philips head screwdriver to tighten the creaking master bed or a working vacuum. There were not blinds in the master bedroom so sunrise was the natural alarm clock just before 7:00 am. Even with the areas that could use improvement, the location and value bump the rating to 5 stars. The building is not modern, and there are many other units within the property that are listed on VRBO with the same management company. This unit had a nice oceanside view and the benefits of the abutting forest for a much more enjoyable stay than being on the road side of the building. The beach park next door was very popular with locals, and we were lucky to have a parking spot on the property that afforded us walking two minutes from the unit to the park. We would consider returning to this unit.
