-Terramar is a fantastic beachfront home, with outstanding views and an unbeatable location. It is situated one mile from the Surf City Pier which makes it minutes from shopping, dining, and two playgrounds and has everything you would need for a memorable, fun family vacation or a relaxing temporary time-out from the hectic day to day life.

-Home’s features include: 3 bedrooms and 3.5 baths (All bedrooms have private bathrooms and views of the ocean), two separate living areas (both with sleeper sofas), elevator, fireplace (for the cold season), FULL SIZE washer and dryer, full kitchen with breakfast counter, separate bar, and a dining table that seats eight, two furnished “house-length” beachfront decks one with a hammock, large outside shower with BOTH hot and cold water, fish preparation station and charcoal grill. NEW---Garage area also contains a "3 in 1," combo pool table, hockey, ping-pong table (for those few rainy days).

Please note we are now limiting guests to 7. If you feel that you have more and would like to ask for an exception please email before booking.

-Additionally: Your rental will include use of: two bay garage for indoor parking with room to store bikes, three flat screen TVs, an assortment of beach toys, beach chairs, free Wi-Fi, free cable, PLAYSTATION 3 with games, puzzles, and an assortment of DVDs.

Disclaimer: The children and I are blessed to share our home with you and we have been fortunate to have some excellent vacation renters. For those of you that have never rented through Vacation Rental By Owner, there are several areas that make it distinct from a hotel or resort rental which I won't list in detail. Suffice it to say, we get to share this home and the benefit of it "working" instead of sitting idle when it is not being used. You/renters get in return access to accommodations that can suit a large family, in a great location, and accommodations that have have more personalized benefits/service and privacy than a single solitary hotel room would afford. Please remind all of those in your party that this is a personal home for almost seven months a year and the intent of this rental is for a "family type" vacation and not a "party house." For this reason, we do not rent to parties who may intend the house to be for a family reunion, wedding, or graduation party. Additionally, we reserve right to futher limit the number of guests if we feel that the desired requested reservation and/or number of occupants, may not be consistent with our intended use for the house. Additionally, I or a representative is usually present or staying locally and check the house between each and every check-out and check-in by renters; therefore, please encourage those in your party to treat the home and belongings therein accordingly.

The first master features a king size bed and is located on the third floor. The second master (second bedroom) is located on the second floor and features a queen size bed. The third bedroom features BOTH a queen bed and bunk beds. 2 portable “pack-n-play” type cribs are also available and regular type rolling crib. There is a living area on both the second and third floors. All floors can be accessed by the elevator. A high chair and booster seat are also on the premises.

About Tamara

Having lived near the beach most of my life, I am finally returning to Topsail Island as an owner after a 14 year absence. My three children (ages 16, 14, and 6), our five-year-old German shepherd and I love the beach and all the outdoor activities that one can do. In the last year alone, as a family, we have body-boarded, kayaked, canoed, “off trail” camped, ridden horses, hiked in the mountains, white water rafted, deep-sea fished, surf fished, rock climbed, rappelled and of course played any number of beach and regular sports. Recently, we changed “gears” and took our first full-family trip abroad and very much enjoyed a different cultural perspective through immersion and Old-World historical study.

Managing this property was the start of now managing other properties and in general is my second career, having pursued the “terminal” PhD degree as a part of my “former” life as both an educator and school administrator. As a single mom, this career allows me the flexibility to home-school my children and the unique ability to teach them business aspects and life lessons from a hands-on approach outside the traditional classroom. As a result they are all a really big help with different areas of the property management and I am proud of the interest they have shown.

Why Tamara chose Topsail Island

Terramar is fairly new for the beach area, built in 2005, and has everything that anyone would need including an elevator. This property was named Sandy Magnolia but their VRBO site was not allowed to be transferred, so we have a new VRBO number and a new name with the house being purchased by new owners. The location is attractive because of its proximity to town and playgrounds. Additionally, the children said it was an easy walk to the pier and ice cream!

There is both linen service and concierge services offered on the island. Lowes Grocery in Hampstead has "food to go service." This service allows you, for a small fee, to order your groceries online and pick them up in the drive through lane at your predetermined time. During certain times of year, we will pick them up for you and have them in house for your arrival. During June-Mid August I recommend ordering your groceries and picking them up as the stores are packed on Saturday and Sundays due to all of the check-ins on the island.

Great home at a great location!

Tamara's place was amazing! Great views, access to the beach was wonderful, and a quiet street but close to everything on the island. We would definitely return. The windows on both sides of the home in the main living area and kitchen kept the whole place light and bright. The elevator enabled us to bring along our grandfather that would not have been able to use the stairs. It was simple to use and went from the ground floor to the top quickly. Bedrooms were nice - each with its own bathroom which was a big plus. The multilevel decks were great - we used both throughout our stay. The dual living spaces were nice as some could spend an afternoon on the top floor, while others could use the second living space on the floor below. The home was also stocked with beach things like chairs if needed. We would recommend this home to any of our friends and would return ourselves again.

Peaceful; Perfect Location

This was a perfect getaway for me and the house was just right. The beach front property has a great deal of space and the views of the sunrises were just breathtaking! November had fisherman along the shore every day and pelicans feasting on schools of fish throughout the day. There was a great deal to enjoy from the top deck.

The house condition was completely acceptable from my standards. This isn't fancy by any means, but it is in great condition for a beach house -- I didn't need for anything while I was there.

I highly recommend staying here if you are looking for a peaceful place to be for the week. Thank you!!!

Not a Shell Left Unturned

Each fall I give myself the gift of one "sabbatical" week along the coast of NC and finding the perfect backdrop is a priority. Thanks to Terramar, with its peaceful comfort, charm, and amazing views, and Terramar's very responsive and welcoming owner, my 2016 sabbatical -- despite the threat of Hurricane Matthew -- resulted in an incredibly restorative week. The home is beautifully decorated, very clean, well-stocked, and an environment that enabled me to escape all thoughts of my busy life in the DC area and indulge in simplicity. The garage and elevator were added bonuses -- especially upon arrival and departure when unloading/loading. I highly recommend this property and look forward to returning -- perhaps sooner than next fall. It was THAT special! Thank you for allowing me to be your guest!

Great experience - would stay here again!

My husband and I enjoy a week in Topsail every September with our dog. We enjoyed staying in this house so much we hope to rent it again for a week next year. Thank you so much for the surprise "Welcome to the Beach" cake from Sugar Island Bakery (our favorite bakery). The location is great - right on the beach! We loved the wood floors throughout! The house was very clean and we especially appreciated the nice bottles of hand soap which were supplied in each bathroom along with a starter roll of toilet paper. (Not all houses do this.) The elevator is such a plus! The electronic lock makes it so convenient and it's so nice not to have to worry about keys. We enjoyed the ping pong table with friends. The kitchen was organized and had nice dishes. Some of the pots and pans have reached the point where they need to be replaced. And, being the end of the busy rental season, the sofa cushions and the dining room table chair cushions could use a cleaning. We met several friendly neighbors and their dogs in this quiet neighborhood. We so appreciate that this nice house is dog-friendly. Thank you for renting to us - we hope to be back next year and would love to stay here again!

I have plans to stay in fall and had planned to check on the pots/supplies as well as the sofa (which I've toyed with slipcovering, replacing, or cleaning again) but will see if I can get up there earlier to have items replaced or cleaned. Fantastic Beach Trip

My family and I stayed at this property for a week at the end of August 2016. We made the trip so our daughter could see the beach and the sand for the first time. The trip was truly wonderful. We had only a couple minor complaints (that by no way should sway going to this home -- the good far outweighs any negatives we experienced).

This home is right on the beach.... The back stairs go directly to the sand and the ocean. It made for the easiest beach days with our daughter. We didn't have to worry about packing up a bunch of stuff for the day, since we were right there. The home had plenty of toys and some beach equipment in the garage. There is a large sun shade that can be used if you want as well.

The beach was never crowded. You will find yourself with plenty of space on the beach. I believe school had just started the week we were there, so it was really quiet on the beach. The sand is clean and the water is warm. What more can you ask for.

The home is great. The elevator really does help with the check in/out process. The beds were comfortable and the AC worked great. The kitchen has everything you need to make dinners. There is a nice TV for the late evenings when you want to sit inside and relax. There are board games and playing cards as well.

There is a shower to rinse off after the beach and, very conveniently, there is also a hose with a spray nozzle by the back door to clean off the sand.

A couple smaller issues we think could be addressed (which would truly make this house perfect-- which we know, perfection can't be expected with every trip). The top floor back door was broken and did not close easily. There were several nails coming up on the deck that were stepped on throughout the week. There were not any screens for the windows so if you wanted to open the windows for fresh air, bugs would make their way inside. The blinds were in good shape but sunlight came right through and lit up the rooms.

Leading up to the trip, I would have liked if the communication with the owner was a little more thorough. It seemed as if the responses were short and not very explanatory. I shouldn't feel as though I can't reach out to the person I am renting from.

OVERALL-- even with the small issues, this house and trip were amazing. It is perfect for a relaxing beach trip and I would highly recommend it for people/families looking to relax on the ocean. We will be going back next year.

Owner's Response: The storm door on the top floor has been replaced (this season) and repaired numerous times (last season). The wind on the beach can be quite strong and thus if it is left open even a fraction it is then caught by the wind, swings open and damages the hinges. I leave it there because it lets in a nice view, being that it is glass. If it is an issue I guess I'll have to remove it altogether as I did the screens. On the beach screens are perilous as in a storm they become dislodged. At the least, they are continously lost (causing constant expense) and affect the view and asthetics of the house. At the most they can do damage to person and property when they become dislodged. The deck and nails are checked weekly but with the constant shifting of sand, coming in of tide, and barage of wind, nails come up. This movement causes them to become loose even if they were pounded in previously. I always recommend not only for this reason but also because it's a wood deck wearing shoes. As far as the light coming through the blinds, there are not any breaks or cuts in the blinds, but there are not block out shades or curtains installed. I tend to be up early at the beach anyway so never thought it was a issue but perhaps this was problematic to a family with a small child. Not really sure what more extensive communication for which the renters wished. Aside from typical information communicated, prior to their stay, I approved these particular renters to have a shorter stay than what I typically allow, approved for them to check in on a week day, and gave them extra time in the house by allowing them to check in hours early. Furthermore, in addition to my email address my personal cell phone is given to the renters and posted in the house. As a side though, VRBO is renting from owners not hotels with full time round-the-clock staff. We have other jobs, our own children, lives, personal emergencies etc. though despite this, I do answer promptly any issues/questions and I try to go out of my way to do extras for the renters.

An amazing house in a perfect location!

Everything was excellent. It was a perfect vacation. The beach was never crowded and very family friendly. The house for our needs perfectly. We had 2 teenagers with us and they were able to have their own space on the second level. We also had my 18month old toddler with us and the fact that there was a high chair and a pack n play provided was so so helpful. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds were comfy. We rented our linens and 2 baby gates from Seaside Linens. There a many great restaurants in the area however I recommend planning ahead and making reservations. We really loved this house and The location and hope to be back one day!

Playground a few minutes walk away.

My teenagers and preschooler enjoyed the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Hospital and in Wilmington USS North Carolina, Battleship.

We enjoy eating at Corner Cupcakes, Sugar Island Bakery, Sears Landing, and New York Deli. For a special night out or couple date night I like Beauchaines 211.

Teens have been outfitted at 50 South Surf Shop and love spending time at the Quarter Moon Bookstore.
