-Terramar is a fantastic beachfront home, with outstanding views and an unbeatable location. It is situated one mile from the Surf City Pier which makes it minutes from shopping, dining, and two playgrounds and has everything you would need for a memorable, fun family vacation or a relaxing temporary time-out from the hectic day to day life.

-Home’s features include: 3 bedrooms and 3.5 baths (All bedrooms have private bathrooms and views of the ocean), two separate living areas (both with sleeper sofas), elevator, fireplace (for the cold season), FULL SIZE washer and dryer, full kitchen with breakfast counter, separate bar, and a dining table that seats eight, two furnished “house-length” beachfront decks one with a hammock, large outside shower with BOTH hot and cold water, fish preparation station and charcoal grill.

Garage area also contains a "3 in 1," combo pool table, hockey, ping-pong table (for those few rainy days).

Please note we are now limiting guests to 7. If you feel that you have more and would like to ask for an exception please email BEFORE booking.

-Additionally: Your rental will include use of: two bay garage for indoor parking with room to store bikes, three flat screen TVs, an assortment of beach toys, beach chairs, free Wi-Fi, free cable, PLAYSTATION 3 with games, puzzles, and an assortment of DVDs.

The first master features a king size bed and is located on the third floor. The second master (second bedroom) is located on the second floor and features a queen size bed. The third bedroom features BOTH a queen bed and bunk beds. 2 portable “pack-n-play” type cribs are also available and regular type rolling crib. There is a living area on both the second and third floors. All floors can be accessed by the elevator. A high chair and booster seat are also on the premises.

PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING: The children and I are blessed to share our home with you and we have been fortunate to have some excellent vacation renters. For those of you that have never rented through Vacation Rental By Owner, there are several areas that make it distinct from a hotel or resort rental which I won't list in detail. Suffice it to say, we get to share this home and the benefit of it "working" instead of sitting idle when it is not being used. You/renters get in return access to accommodations that can suit a large family, in a great location, and accommodations that have have more personalized benefits/service and privacy than a single solitary hotel room would afford.

Therefore; NO HOUSE PARTIES: (We rent to families and adults all over the age of 25). A family is defined as parents, their children and relatives. Anyone renting other than stated will not be admitted to the rental unit and will forfeit all rents paid. Any misrepresentation is grounds for this action. This policy is strictly enforced. If you feel that you have an exception and would like that to be considered, please email BEFORE booking and exceptions may be granted on a case by case basis.

Additionally, please remind all of those in your party that this is my personal home for almost seven months a year and the intent of this rental is for a "family type" vacation and not a "party house." For this reason, we do not rent to parties who may intend the house to be for a family reunion, wedding, or graduation party. Additionally, we reserve right to further limit the number of guests if we feel that the desired requested reservation and/or number of occupants, may not be consistent with our intended use for the house. I or my representative is usually present or staying locally and check the house between each and every check-out and check-in by renters; therefore, please encourage those in your party to treat the home and belongings therein accordingly. If at any time we feel that the renters are not using the home in accordance with our wishes...ie due to excessive drinking, large parties, loud music, noncompliance with beach regulations, disturbing a sea turtle nest, and/or errant behavior it will result in cancelling the remainder of your rental with no refund.

About Tamara

Having lived near the beach most of my life, I returned to Topsail Island in 2015 as an owner after a 15+ year absence. My three children (ages 18, 16, and 6), our German shepherd and I love the beach and all the outdoor activities that one can do.

In the last year alone, as a family, we have body-boarded, kayaked, canoed, “off trail” camped, ridden horses, hiked in the mountains, white water rafted, deep-sea fished, surf fished, rock climbed, rappelled and of course played any number of beach and regular sports. Recently, we changed “gears” and took our first full-family trip abroad and very much enjoyed a different cultural perspective through immersion and Old-World historical study.

Managing this property was the start of managing other properties and in general is my second career, having pursued the “terminal” PhD degree as a part of my “former” life as both an educator and school administrator. As a mom, this allows me the flexibility to home-school my children and the unique ability to teach them business aspects and life lessons from a hands-on approach outside the traditional classroom. As a result they are all a really big help with different areas of the property management and I am proud of the interest they have shown.

Why Tamara chose Topsail Island

Terramar is fairly new for the beach area, built in 2005, and has everything that anyone would need including an elevator. The location is attractive because of its proximity to town and playgrounds. Additionally, the children said it was an easy walk to the pier and ice cream!

Also the view is great from any room. Even on the rare rainy day I love looking at the ocean!

Playground a few minutes walk away.

My teenagers and preschooler enjoyed the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Hospital and in Wilmington USS North Carolina, Battleship.

We enjoy eating at Corner Cupcakes, Sugar Island Bakery, Sears Landing, and New York Deli. For a special night out or couple date night I like Beauchaines 211.

Teens have been outfitted at 50 South Surf Shop and love spending time at the Quarter Moon Bookstore.

Notes:
There is both linen service and concierge services offered on the island. Lowes Grocery in Hampstead has "food to go service." This service allows you, for a small fee, to order your groceries online and pick them up in the drive through lane at your predetermined time. During certain times of year, we will pick them up for you and have them in house for your arrival. During June-Mid August I recommend ordering your groceries and picking them up as the stores are packed on Saturday and Sundays due to all of the check-ins on the island.

Pretty pricy for what you get.

My family and I stay this beach house the first week of August 2017. The area is beautiful and the house placed very close to the water has a stunning ocean view. The house has a great setup, bedrooms are separated on 2 levels and provide great privacy. The house is large and easily fits a couple generations comfortably. The elevator is very convenient. However the house is past its prime and in overall loved/used condition which would require some TLC.

The upstairs toilet runs continuously.

The kitchens sink sprays water pretty across the entire kitchen because it is rusted.

The dishwasher drawer is loose, and might fall if you are not ready to catch it.

Hardly any lamps had light bulbs or were working. The lamps which are not working in the staircase make it quite difficult to get downstairs to the bedrooms at night time.

Most of the “nice” lawn chairs are broken, you will notice right when you sit down. Most of the inside furniture is very loved you could almost say dirty. It is hard to see through the old, yellow colored windows in the entire home.

Doorknobs for example leading to deck are loose and unusable unless you have a screwdriver handy.

The baseboards are loose upstairs, which again create great tripping hazards, especially close to the staircase.

The awning on the sundeck is completely broken.

The BBQ spot downstairs is very overgrown (like the rest of the yard), and therefore hard to use.

The deck is in bad shape and needs to be replaced entirely. Deck and boardwalk not only have screws sticking out, the entire boards are loose and give an uneasy feeling.

It almost looks scary underneath the house. The supporting structure which connects the wood frame is rusted significantly, which again gives an uneasy feeling if you understand only a bit of engineering. The house is nice but not up to date. The owner has excuses on why nothing needs to be fixed incredibly fast which gives the idea that they have heard all of these listed points before.

Ps: not providing linens/towels is pretty inconvenient for guests traveling by airplanes, considering how easy it would be to just have a simple set there.

Owner's Response: Please see two positive reviews THIS SAME MONTH.This renter DID NOT respect residence & disregarded rental policies by: moving furniture/electronics, my personal belongings (marked as same), leaving trash behind, & having more renters then allowed. I gave them bad “renter” review.I did this, despite knowing they might give a bad review in retaliation, but I had no choice. I was shocked at the liberties they took. Note that this was only the 2nd time I have done this & 2nd overall negative review Here are the facts: 1) This is my personal home & it is not in disrepair.Built to the highest standards & above code by an engineer in 2005 on a lovely high dune oceanfront lot.We do all extensive repairs & maintenance throughout the off season.During the rental period, we personally check the house monthly & get wkly reports from cleaning crew & cleaning supervisor.If something breaks, as it sometimes can, I try to send someone right away. 2)No, for health & sanitary reasons we don't provide linens & that is clearly stated but list several linen rental companies to contact & they will make beds & have all linens in place ready on your arrival.This is a common practice for rentals during the season here. 3)The Sun Setter awning is locked, tied shut, & wand is removed as renters are NOT supposed to use due to possible wind damage to the awning & frame if left open.The 2nd floor deck is all shade, if shade is what is desired. 4)Outside furniture is brand new, (white polywood furniture); except, for the two white lounge chairs (2 yrs old).We left those there,because they were in working order&I happen to like them. 5)The stair lights are working IF you know how to work a dimmer switch.BOTH dimmers need to be up (on). 6)Lamp light bulbs changed out mid rental period, by myself. 7)No, we DO NOT trim the vegetation ON THE DUNES, & we are NOT SUPPOSED TO BY LAW BECAUSE OF de-stabilization of dunes.We trim a small path to the garage, to the fish cleaning area/bbq,& up to walkway, only. 8)Summary, The ONLY repair this renter contacted me about was 1 doorknob & the dishwasher rack.I offered to send a repairman, they REFUSED him.I have checked the knob & the dishwasher & am not sure what they refer to. -The valid points this renter had was there are three windows on the third floor that experienced a broken seal after a storm but this maintenance & replacement along with a complete new toilet system is scheduled in off season when not rented. Cant be done in between renters

Great location, outstanding views, extremely comfortable

This was a great place for us for our first beach vacation with our new grandson.

The home proved to be extremely comfortable, and couldn't have been any closer to the beach.

The owner was responsive to our pre-trip questions. But when we arrived after a storm, she was really great, taking care of all the small dings and dents after the storm hit.

The elevator is a real plus, especially as the kitchen is on the top floor.

The home was well-equipped, and had all we really needed for our grandson. Being right on the beach, it was so easy to get him down for bit, then right back to the house. The beach is very clean and not crowded at all (even in July).

Overall, a very positive experience at a very nice beach house. One check of the yearly calendar and you'll see that lots of people feel the same way we do. We've stayed at lots of houses along the East Coast. Unless you're looking for 'super fancy', you won't go wrong with this house......

I still remember the first time I took my oldest to stay at the beach for the first time...and it wasn't very far from here, just up the road where my mom used to live. Our goal is for our guests to enjoy being here as much as we do when we come to the cottage.

Beautiful views, convenient layout, and charming decor

We loved it here! So quaint and loved having two porches. The elevator was convenient, however the call button did not work. We needed to ride it to the floor where it was needed but still really convenient for groceries and luggage. We forgot to order linens and called the owner. She was extremely helpful and kind. We had linens delivered within an hour! Definitely recommend staying here!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and kind words. As far as the call button...the elevator has a "safety feature," If the safety gate is not pulled completely shut, it disables all of the call buttons until it is re-closed properly. For instance: if you ride it to the third floor get out to unload then close the door without closing the gate or with the gate pulled across not but not closed securely....until it clicks, if someone on the second floor calls for the elevator it won't move until the third floor gate is closed...or closed properly. This is true for every floor. The elevator including the call buttons on every floor are working fine so I am guessing that was the issue. I wish you all had let me know while you were there, that you felt there was a problem and I could have come and demonstrated so you all would not have been inconvenienced during your stay.

A perfect beach house!

This was our first time renting a home for our family vacation and we sure did set the standards high with this home. We had two families coming from the midwest to spend a week on the beach and randomly decided on Surf City. The house was the perfect setup for the 7 of us, having two master suites and a room with bunked beds for the 3 children. Each of the 3 rooms had a bathroom connected, which was great! The views from every room were magical and the washer/dryer and elevator were an added plus! We spent every day/all day at the beach, which was literally outside of our back door. The house came equipped with all of our beach needs, including chairs, umbrella, boogie boards, and sand toys. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook with, and we took advantage of that, only eating out twice during the whole week (not counting the awesome doughnut spot we found in the middle of the week)! The two balconies were used often for morning coffees, late lunches and quiet reading in the hammock. The outdoor shower was the kids' favorite part!

Tamara was wonderful to work with! Her communication was spot on and she was always quick to respond.

We've only been home for a day and are already in the works for planning a return!

Great home at a great location!

Tamara's place was amazing! Great views, access to the beach was wonderful, and a quiet street but close to everything on the island. We would definitely return. The windows on both sides of the home in the main living area and kitchen kept the whole place light and bright. The elevator enabled us to bring along our grandfather that would not have been able to use the stairs. It was simple to use and went from the ground floor to the top quickly. Bedrooms were nice - each with its own bathroom which was a big plus. The multilevel decks were great - we used both throughout our stay. The dual living spaces were nice as some could spend an afternoon on the top floor, while others could use the second living space on the floor below. The home was also stocked with beach things like chairs if needed. We would recommend this home to any of our friends and would return ourselves again.

Peaceful; Perfect Location

This was a perfect getaway for me and the house was just right. The beach front property has a great deal of space and the views of the sunrises were just breathtaking! November had fisherman along the shore every day and pelicans feasting on schools of fish throughout the day. There was a great deal to enjoy from the top deck.

The house condition was completely acceptable from my standards. This isn't fancy by any means, but it is in great condition for a beach house -- I didn't need for anything while I was there.

I highly recommend staying here if you are looking for a peaceful place to be for the week. Thank you!!!
