Phyllis Kennedy purchased this House in 2015
Why Phyllis Kennedy chose Gloucester
Realization of a dream to buy this historic property at the corner of Bass Avenue and Good Harbor Beach. The name is inspired by just how lucky we feel to be the new owners and to share our home with you.
What makes this House unique
Gorgeous ocean and beach views from every room with just steps to Good Harbor Beach. Beautiful interior with wood accents throughout. Sit on the porch out front or have lunch on the picnic table in the yard. Room for the whole family to enjoy an amazing beach vacation. For families requiring a bit more room there is a third floor apartment available for an additional fee.
WOW! WOW! WOW!
The place ... the location ... the owner/manager. All WOW! Our review might be worth reading because we now KNOW that house! :) We rented it for the whole month of October as our non-profit (Desanka Spirit) serves the Salem community during the month at Haunted Happenings.
THE PLACE: This grand old beach home is not "super-modern" (except for a couple of the remodeled bathrooms upstairs) but it was clean, functioning and comfortable. The common spaces are spacious and the sleeping spaces well-apportioned with comfortable bedrooms and numerous bathrooms that served us well. Linens are provided and the basement laundry, with new washer and dryer, was an added benefit to the mounds of clothing and bedding we utilized through the month. The kitchen has a new refrigerator, a dishwasher, and is well-stocked which was a great benefit when we forgot a spice or a kitchen tool. Decks off of every 2nd-floor bedroom, a big partial wrap-around deck on the first floor, covered porch on the front, picnic area out back overlooking the marsh ... all wonderful spots to soak up the New England surf-ladened air and beautiful views.
THE LOCATION: Amazing sunrises and sunsets, nature made it's calling in many fashions ... even a Nor'Easter to wow us with surge and storm and surf. We felt like we were IN the ocean as this house that has stood through many a storm, held her place tightly and gave us a peaceful experience. Gloucester is a magical town, full of historic "New World" charm with structures dating back to the Revolutionary War. Restaurants nearby we liked: Charlies's Place, Windward Grille, & Beauport Hotel. Shopping for food and pharmacy items is a short walk away or a 1-minute drive.
THE PEOPLE: Phyllis welcomed us upon arrival and gave us the grand tour of the beach home. She answered our questions upon arrival and during the month, when we had some concerns about certain things, Phyllis was but a phone call away. She and her daughter manage a beautiful thing in this Lucky Sands Beach House. Accommodating. Gracious. We so appreciate our hosts!
Overall, this is the best place I have stayed in a long time - especially for an extended stay. We had everything we needed in a space - and more! We hope to be back again next October ;)

It was the best venue for a memorable reunion
We rented this lovely home for the 40th anniversary of my high school class. The Vista hotel nearby accommodated the excess people. They are awesome too.
Phyllis was kind enough to let us check in early. Its an old and grand home with many places to hang out including many decks on multiple floors and stunning views of Good Harbor beach from every room. The kitchen is well equipped and there are multiple refrigerators for a big party. There is plenty of towels, blankets and pillows and even a comfortable folding cot. The pullout beds in the smaller family room was the only bed that was not comfortable.
Good harbor beach is steps away and Bass rocks a short walk.
We tried to leave the place as impeccably clean as we found it. If you want to be good to Phyllis then make sure to strip the beds and bring all dirty laundry down to the cellar when you leave.
Great for family reunion
Our Midwestern relatives stayed here for an extended weekend centered around our son’s wedding. Being able to take a quick stroll to the beach was a unique experience for them. They loved the view, the space to spread out, and the abundance of bathrooms. (Important when 8 people are trying to get ready for the same event.) It was nice that when one was getting too much sun on one deck, they could just move to a shadier deck.
We all enjoyed getting acquainted with Gloucester, its restaurants, and the Cape Ann Museum. It would be fun to do this again. If you want to rent a comfortable, roomy home in a great location, this is for you.
Our family of ten stayed for a weekend occasioned by the marriage of our daughter in Gloucester. The house is as presented. Large, on the water and has plenty of room. Big kitchen, lovely sunroom and many decks. Can't beat the setting overlooking Good harbor beach. I would give it 5 stars except for the fact the house needs work but this is a small quibble because overall it was perfect for us. Our host Phyllis was gracious allowing earlier check-in and later check-out. As a footnote one of the family members who is from Gloucester used to come to the house to play with a friend-this was sixty years ago. Small world.
Magical setting -- Spacious, practical house
This our second time renting this property and it was just as wonderful as we remembered. The house is just steps from Good Harbor Beach which is a perfect beach for the four little girls ages 5 to 8. The tidal river is fun, the waves are just large enough for aging grandparents and young girls and the water is often shallow; and did I mention the hermit crabs which we all love catching?
Set on a cliff, the views from the house are magical. One side faces the ocean; another the marsh. We especially enjoyed watching the tide, listening to the waves, and observing the birds.
The house is large and comfortable and easily accommodated our family of 13 with plenty of room for the occasional day guest.
The gracious owner greeted us at check-in and showed us the features of the
house. She has supplied the house with everything from linens to kitchen equipment to beach toys.
We will definitely return to this house again.
We were 5 families ( all related) staying here and the space was perfect for all of us. We all loved the few steps to the beach and plenty of parking for a reunion event with our extended family members. Kitchen cupboards & drawers very well stocked with pots/ pans/ utensils ( more than you can imagine. No need to bring any from home. Loved the porch & all the balconies off the rooms. Great cross ventilation. Can't beat this home for space and location. Will come back again for sure.
Gloucester, MA, America's oldest seaport offers many wonderful attractions from historic tours and maritime museums to outdoor activities such as whale watching and schooner rides there is something for everyone. The house is situated on a corner lot bordering Good Harbor beach. Local restaurants feature fresh fish and seafood and authentic Italian cuisine.
