Overview

About the property

MAGICAL ONE ACRE BY THE SEA WITH OCEAN VIEWS

This is a true villa on a 1 acre estate between Hwy 1 and the ocean. Please click the video icon at the top left . Carmel Highlands is located 5 minutes from downtown Carmel. Pebble Beach and the Aquarium are 15 minutes away. In the early 1900's, Carmel was largely an artists community. Many artists struggled, the successful lived in the Highlands. The Highlands is the beginning of Big Sur which continues on another 100 miles. The villa is rural yet it is not isolated, walk to the Highlands General Store, 5 minutes to dinner in downtown. Travel 1 minute south of the villa and the coastline changes dramatically. Many wonderful ocean views from the front yard of the villa. Pt. Lobos State Reserve is very near for miles of hikes. You can explore forever.

The villa was built in 1953 and reconstructed in 2005. The reconstruction updated and remodeled the villa to bring back the feeling of old California such as the 250 year Mexican arches and the hand carved bedroom doors from the days of Junipero Serra. Across the street is a cabin that Bob Dylan and Joan Baez used to stay at in the 60's. Come experience the magic of Carmel Highlands.

Perfect for family reunions and birthdays with it's five bedrooms and 9 beds. There is a formal dining room for your family or an outside deck off the dining room with a custom table for 20. The hot tub is a Hot Spring, Cadillac of Spas with Moto Massage and twirling jets. Wander the grounds and gardens of the level one acre estate and play volleyball on the back lawn if you like. Photo opportunities abound under the stone arches or the deck with the ocean and rock caves in the background just a few hundred feet away, don't settle for a distant look at a patch of blue, at the Villa you look into the white water waves going in and out of the ocean caves at Bird Rock. Hear the sea lions bark, smell the ocean air, see the waves crash, wander the many gardens with the Pacific in your backyard. The weather by the sea can best be described as two seasons of Spring and two seasons of Fall. It can be 110 degrees inland yet the temperature in the Highlands rarely exceeds 70 degrees.

The Villa has wireless internet service--via satellite.

Five bedrooms, four full baths, accommodates up to 14.

Lots of parking for all your vehicles within the large iron gates.

Two kings-two queens -two singles-two sofa beds.

Small intimate weddings, up to 20 with 4-7 night stay.

Two minutes south to the Hyatt and the 5 star Pacific Edge Restaurant. Clint's place is just around the corner (you can see him there, if your timing is right). Enjoy the wood burning fireplace, take in the sea air. Unlike any vacation you will have ever taken. You will not want to leave. Pictures do not do the Villa justice.

About John

John purchased this villa in 2007

Why John chose Central Coast

Love at first sight. Being near the ocean is something I've treasured since my college days in Santa Barbara. The property has a charm and magic seldom experienced on the Central California coast. The villa is the beginning of Big Sur. You can take a short 30 excursion on Hwy1 or a day trip down to Hearst Castle stopping to see the Sea Elephants along the way.

What makes this villa unique

Breathe the ocean air ! See the sights, take a walk by the beach.

Play golf at one of a dozen golf courses on the Peninsula. The restaurants are fabulous! The Aquarium should not be missed. There are four passes good for four people each day. The Aquarium is on Cannery Row and is pretty much the way John Stienbeck described. See Big Sur and the 17 Mile Drive. Stop for lunch in Spanish Bay or the Lodge in Pebble Beach. The Wharf offers whale watching and kayak excursions and some of the best sea food in California. We are always happy to give restaurant recommendations or tell you about an off-the-beaten-path walk along the coast. Payments can also be made in Bitcoin.

Beautiful and very comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for our family reunion. All of the rooms were well equipped and accommodating for our large group. The kids played outside the entire time, and because it was fenced it gave us complete peace of mind.

Fantastic property with rustic feeling

  • 4 of 5

We had a 3 generation family reunion (ages 17-88) for 10 for 6 days here and everyone had a great time. The property is beautiful and conveniently located. We spent lots of time on the deck and in yard. The ocean view is a small slice, but still enjoyable. The house itself is nicely renovated and very quaint. The big fireplace was a regular gathering place and we cooked a great dinner one night. There were a few minor issues, but the owner was responsive and none of them interfered with overall enjoyment. Like most places, if you are expecting fancy hotel type accommodations, you should stay at a fancy hotel, if you want a nice, rustic Carmel style place, this is a great choice.

BEAUTIFUL!

  • 5 of 5

My family (13 of us) stayed in John's lovely home while in Carmel for a wedding. The house was clean and beautiful on a large lot with lots of room for the kids to run around. The home is centrally located with a grocery store and Starbucks only minutes away, however we felt like we were in a secluded private area. I highly recommend this home while visiting the Carmel/Monterey area.
