About the property

This is a true villa on a 1 acre estate between Hwy 1 and the ocean. Many wonderful ocean views from the front yard. Pt. Lobos State Reserve is very near for miles of hikes. The kids will explore forever.

The villa was built in 1953 and reconstructed in 2005. The reconstruction updated and remodeled the villa to bring back the feeling of old California such as the 200 year Mexican arches and the hand carved bedroom doors from the days of Junipero Serra. The villa is the beginning of Big Sur. Accross the street is a cabin that Bob Dylan and Joan Baez used to stay at in the 60's. Come experience the magic of Carmel Highlands.

Perfect for family reunions and birthdays with it's five bedrooms and 9 beds. There is a formal dining room for your family or an outside deck off the dining room with a custom table for 20. The hot tub is a Hot Spring, Cadillac of Spas with Moto Massage and twirling jets. Wander the grounds and gardens of the level one acre estate and play volleyball on the back lawn if you like. Photo opportunities abound under the stone arches or the deck with the ocean and rock caves in the background just a few hundred feet away, don't settle for a distant look at a patch of blue, at the Villa you look into the white water waves going in and out of the ocean caves at Bird Rock. Hear the sea lions bark, smell the ocean air, see the waves crash, wander the many gardens with the Pacific in your backyard. The weather by the sea can best be described as two seasons of Spring and two seasons of Fall.

The Villa has wireless internet service--via satellite.

Five bedrooms, four full baths, accommodates up to 14.

Lots of parking for all your vehicles within the large iron gates.

Three kings-one queen -two singles-two sofa beds.

Small intimate weddings, up to 20 with 4-7 night stay.

Stays include (4) passes to the Monterey Bay Aquarium that may be used by two guests per day. Passes must be returned to the house.

Two minutes to the Hyatt and the 5 star Pacific Edge Restaurant. Clint's place is just around the corner (you can see him there, if your timing is right). For convenience there is the Carmel Highlands General Store within walking distance. Enjoy the wood burning fireplaces in the living room and master bedroom. Unlike any vacation you will have ever taken. You will not want to leave. Pictures do not do the Villa justice.

About John

Real Estate Developer and a native of Northern California. Nina is a native of Thailand and a Dr. Professor. We have homes in Carmel, Pebble Beach and Bangkok. We enjoy traveling often and love to share our home here in the Carmel Highlands with guests from all over the world.

John purchased this villa in 2007

Why John chose Central Coast

Love at first sight. Being near the ocean is something I've treasured since my college days in Santa Barbara. The property has a charm and magic seldom experienced on the Central California coast. The villa is the beginning of Big Sur. You can take a short 30 excursion on Hwy1 or a day trip down to Hearst Castle stopping to see the Sea Elephants along the way.

What makes this villa unique

Breathe the ocean air ! See the sights, take a walk by the beach.

Play golf at one of a dozen golf courses on the Peninsula. The restaurants are fabulous! The Aquarium should not be missed. There are two passes good for two people each day. The Aquarium is on Cannery Row and is pretty much the way John Stienbeck described. See Big Sur and the 17 Mile Drive. Stop for lunch in Spanish Bay or the Lodge in Pebble Beach. The Wharf offers whale watching and kayak excursions and some of the best sea food in California. We are always happy to give restaurant recommendations or tell you about an off-the-beaten-path walk along the coast.

My family (13 of us) stayed in John's lovely home while in Carmel for a wedding. The house was clean and beautiful on a large lot with lots of room for the kids to run around. The home is centrally located with a grocery store and Starbucks only minutes away, however we felt like we were in a secluded private area. I highly recommend this home while visiting the Carmel/Monterey area.

Perfect family vacation home

  • 5 of 5

This is the third time I have stayed in this wonderful home, twice for family celebrations and once with colleagues for a conference. Being at this property makes one feel special and lucky. The five bedrooms and myriad ways to divide sleeping arrangements is quite handy, the grounds are large, beautifully landscaped and great for hanging out reading a book, writing a toast for your brother's wedding while catching a glimpse of the ocean, playing badminton with the kids, or luxuriating in the hot tub after a beach hike. This place is truly a Mediterranean villa, not just a house. The home's eclectic furnishings of antiques and modern amenities provide everything needed, and the pantry is full of spices and useful staples. We had a dinner party from food ordered to be delivered and had plenty of left-overs for our whole stay, making meals easy. I look forward to enjoying this home again in the future. Thanks John for all of your help!

Great times at the "castle"

  • 5 of 5

We had a terrific time at the villa; John was a wonderful and helpful host, and we wish we had more time to spend there. But the property is really a magical place, our kids called it "the castle," and would totally come back if we came to Carmel again.

John's house was one of the best homes I have stayed in. It is a place we would love to return to over and over again!

Location: Perfect.

Clean and well maintained.

Great customer service.

Perfect spot for relaxing, going to the beach, close to hikes, and lots of tourist stuff close by if you are into that stuff.

Best Romantic Place for Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at Villa Carmel in April 2016 and thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay. Everything in the house is comfortably luxurious and, appropriately stocked (towels, linens, kitchen cookware, coffee service in every room. The home is comfortable in all aspects, and exquisitely decorated and furnished. Amazing architectural elements at every turn made staying at Villa Carmel a delight. From 200 year old Mexican stone arches outside, to each door having a different architectural design communicates that a true professional artisan made the style choices in the design and architecture here. The location couldn't be better, being both a stone's throw from, and view of, Point Lobos Natural Reserve (the Jewel of the California State Park System) and the quaint Carmel Highlands General Store (for that last minute bottle of wine). If still in doubt, it's only about 10 minutes to the fantastic dining ans shopping of downtown Carmel, and only about 3 minutes to a Safeway for your groceries and other provisions

John's communication is also spot on. Providing just the right information, connecting before and after your stay, and checking in just once to ensure needs were met. He was accessible and responsive via text, yet your experience will be totally private. Thanks, John, for a first rate experience that leaves our entire family with heartwarming memories!

The perfect place for a family gathering

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful and comfortable home provided a great environment for a family gathering. There were spacious areas in the kitchen and living room for everyone to share as well as lots of room in the house and on the grounds to reflect on the beauty you are surrounded by. The bedrooms were well appointed and the unique antique pieces throughout the house were still warm and inviting.
