Our family retired from the military at Ft. Bragg, NC in 2006 and moved to Alaska to finish raising our children. Randy started his second career working for the state on the Alaska Marine Highway (ferry system), and Colleen started a very rewarding job working for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough (MatSu) as a firefighter. That job excelled over the next six years to becoming an engineer with West Lakes Fire Department and an EMT. Our children are grown and live nearby with grandchildren arriving yearly:)
Colleen purchased this House in 2006
Why Colleen chose Wasilla
We recently secured jobs out of state that may become permanent. However, we're not ready to sell our house yet. We've put years into upgrading it, and we just love our home. We receive a lot compliments, and people wonder why we would ever want to leave. We're trying something new in our new found empty nest status, and are hoping to share some of the beauty and comfort of our home with others to enjoy.
What makes this House unique
We believe we have the best location on the lake for views and access. The lake is a peaceful wildlife breeding area with no loud speedboats or jet skis, although it becomes a roadway for snowmachiners in the winter. The lake freezes to about 2 feet thick making it a perfect place to ice fish, cross-country ski, or snow shoe. There is also a snow machine, ATV, and camper rental dealer in Wasilla for the very adventurous vacationers.

Great home and location
Loved the home and location. Shared the home with 3 friends and hiked 11 trails in 7 days. It was nice to come back to a comfortable home every evening. Would definitely recommend it and will use again in the future
Wonderful home ... they had everything we needed
We had a toddler with us and the house had everything we needed. Great kitchen and home layout. I'd highly recommend it for families.
Exceptional cleanliness, great location. Exactly as advertised
Great time, all we wanted
The home was beautiful! Wonderful location, centrally located near everything!
Outstanding Large Family Home
Beautiful home, just outstanding for our large family to explore the greater Matanuska-Sustina Valley. All of us loved it, especially the native art work and the large decks
Very comfortable home! Very convenient to points of interest from Whittier to Denali!
The home was very clean, very comfortable and very convenient. The view of the lake was beautiful. We enjoyed watching the eagles, the swan family, the duck family and the loon family. We enjoyed canoeing on the lake and grilling on the great deck.
Eating establishments were convenient and served great food. Abbey's Home cooking and the Cadillac Cafe are a must.
The glacier tour of Prince William Sound at Whittier, Independence Day Parade at Taleekna, the views of Denali and the moose in Denali park were highlights.
Views of Mt. McKinley within a short drive, Fur Rendezvous in February, Iditarod in March, halibut, rock fish, and salmon fishing charters from May through September. Year round rainbow trout fishing in the lake just steps away.
