Classic Cabin Experience

This cabin is becoming a yearly escape for my partner, our dogs, and I. With beautiful vistas over the lake, and a peaceful calm around you at all times, this cabin always leaves me feeling rested and recovered.

Best Cabin on Earth

We sat for two weeks looking at the lake. That's all we did. We watched the water shimmer and the sun's light blanket the south bank. That's all we did. It was great. We became grateful to all beings, especially to our wonderful host.

Amazing stay!

Our stay was amazing! The views of the lake were breath taking! From check in to check out our stay was wonderful and warm. The host is a wonderful person who accommodates the stay. Definitely a future stay! Cleanliness, fully furnished and easy access to the property!

Beautiful, peaceful lakefront cabin

My husband and I stayed in the smaller cabin. The setting is beautiful. The cabin is cozy, comfortable and well stocked. Several good hikes in the area. Highly recommend the restaurant at the Country Store. We were sorry we only had a chance to eat there once. Rene, our host was very responsive and had some great recommendations. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to go back next year.

Great location

Beautiful area. Wonderful lake view. Close to Durango. Great communication and advice from property manager. Was a little more rustic then we had expected but was clean and had all necessary amenities plus some nice extra touches.

front of cabin is a deck with impressionist view of V Lake which can be watched all times of day, dawn to dusk. Inside kitchen with everything even micwave and great dining table I used to make art collage. Slept deep on tempurpedic. Great shower, great TV _ HBO 80s channel got me one afternoon after canoeing. Beautiful Views

The view from the deck was absolutely stunning. We were disappointed that there wasn’t a walking trail around the lake (not the owner’s fault) and we weren’t aware until we got there that we had to take our trash offsite for disposal. However our time in the cabin was very relaxing and we enjoyed being able to have our dog with us on vacation.

This is a beautiful cabin and the host has the kindest soul you will meet. She goes over and beyond to make your stay a one of a kind. Go stay and meet the wonderful Rene! View on line indicated boating and beach...lake water is so low that launching a canoe was impossible, if you could find the right one among those beached far from the water.

Lovely Lake Views

A great little cabin on the lake. Nice to have access to the lakefront and a kayak to use on the lake. We enjoyed our restful stay. The cabin is shanty chic and could use a little TLC but nothing that impaired our stay.

Great Cabin getaway

We loved the cabin on the lake. Great location with beautiful scenery and easy to make day trips from. Rene was a great host and was very helpful suggesting things to do in the area. I would highly recommend staying in this cabin. It was perfect.

Honeymoon

A great stay! Everything we needed or would have liked was readily available: from pots pans/ dishes for eating to a 60 second walk for fishing. Durango, where there are plenty of options for shopping and site-seeing, is just a 30 minute drive. We took a train from their to Silverton. That was also an incredible, scenic experience.

Hello, I'm René! My family and I moved to the Durango/Bayfield area from the shores of Santa Barbara in 2004; here, we found a home with the striking beauty of the Rocky Mountains. I have worked as a B2B consultant in the 4Corners area for nearly a decade; then, in 2015, I started the business Shanty Chic, managing quintessential mountain cabins in Vallecito Lake. Through my time in Colorado, I’ve become intimately familiar with the southwest and surrounding areas. As a host, I value taking time to create connections through personally meeting each of my guests. I listen both for needs and barriers, as well as goals and desires, in order to best accommodate you and provide meaningful suggestions for your trip. I am a guest-driven host, and my priority is to provide a safe and comfortable home for your experience in Vallecito Lake and beyond. I have cared for hundreds of guests and am excited to share all the insights that a trained guide, local business owner, and Colorado Mom can provide.

This cabin is on Vallecito Lake. A beautiful, secluded mountain valley just 18 miles from Durango. It is one of the largest and most beautiful bodies of water in Colorado. The lake has about 12 miles of shoreline and sits right in the middle of the San Juan National Forest.
