This picturesque carriage house sits next to our home, Craven House, (seen in Southern Living Magazine) in the beautiful historic district in downtown Beaufort, one block from the marina, shopping, museums and restaurants. Walk everywhere, even to the post office. Wren’s Nest has 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with a full bed. In between the two bedrooms, there is a shared full bath. The unit has hardwood floors throughout and a fitted kitchen. Relax on the porch or furnished patio surrounded by 100 year old oak trees draped with Spanish moss, lovely gardens and historic homes. The sound of the church bells of nearby St Helena Church, one of the oldest continual working churches in the country, will take you back into the 18th century.

This carriage house with separate upper and lower units was recently brought back to life after many years of neglect. About Ellen and Mike Tomy

Mike Tomy is an award winning architect and Ellen painted portraits for 15 years and now paints miniatures. They are both retired and recently renovated the main house and the carriage house that sits near.

Ellen and Mike Tomy purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Ellen and Mike Tomy chose Historic District

The carriage house has wonderful views of historic homes. The trees somewhat block the view of the water, but it is just a block away. Park the car and walk to museums, restaurants, shops, marina and art galleries. Or take a horse drawn carriage ride along the streets of Beautiful historic district. Go for a drive to Hunting beach and climb the lighthouse. Stop in the colorful shops and road side vegetable stands along the way.

What makes this cottage unique

The Carriage House on Craven, central to all that is happening in Beaufort has a separate unit downstairs (property 742825) if one has a large party and all want to stay in one place.

During the many yearly festivals parking is not easy to find in town. Just stay at the carriage house, leave the car and the festivals are a block away. Meander through one-of-a-kind shops on Bay Street and enjoy fabulous seafood in Beaufort's unique restaurants. If you don't want to eat out, a fully equipped kitchen is ready for you.

Gracious lowcountry charm in a perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

Sipping coffee and tea on the porch of the Wren's Nest is just about as good as it gets! The space is gorgeous, clean, and functional; the hosts are kind and helpful. And you can easily walk to downtown Beaufort's shops, fine dining and the waterfront park and leave your car safely parked up the driveway! We come to Beaufort once a year and wouldn't stay anywhere else!

Sweet southern charm

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at The Craven Street carriage house for 3 days. It's perfect for a couple or small family. We were welcomed by the owners and enjoyed the comfortable rooms and tasteful decor. The location is perfect for sightseeing between Charleston and Hilton Head. Beaufort itself is quaint with lovely restaurants and views of the bay. Our stay was relaxing and peaceful and a wonderful place to come back to each night.

Perfect home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I reserved the upstairs carriage house to attend graduation week for my daughter at Parris Island. The home was very clean and inviting. It was stocked with all the necessities, and very comfortable beds and bedding. My son and I enjoyed walking 2 short blocks to Waterfront Park to watch the sunset or just swing on the benches and overlook the bay. The park is also surrounded by cute little shops, restaurants, souvenir shops, etc. Only about 15 min drive to Parris Island, so just the right location all around. I cannot imagine anyone passing this place up to pay about the same price if not more at a hotel. Only suggestion I have is there is just one closet, so if you're traveling with 4, you might want to bring one of those collapsible racks to hang clothes on. We were traveling light and no need for fancy clothes so it was not an issue for us at all. Met Ellen one of the mornings and she is just the sweetest. Thank you Mike & Ellen for a wonderful southern hospitality experience for these West Coast Cali-Folks!!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Michelle! And thanks for the tip about the hanging clothes. Yes I would like to find a solution with the space being so small. Will certainly try to figure something out. You were the perfect guests! Ellen

Relaxing Stay Downtown

  • 5 of 5

This property is perfect! It was absolutely what I needed for my stay, a nice quiet place. The inside is beautifully decorated. Everything was comfortable, it was like home. In fact I wouldn't mind just living there! Beaufort is not new to me as I have lived there for the last 25 years only having recently moved away. I had to come for a short business trip and needed a quiet place and this was perfect. The kitchen is well stocked, I just didn't feel like cooking. I was able to drive to Starbucks for a chai latte in the morning although the coffee shop downtown is in walking distance and they make their chai homemade. There are so many wonderful restaurants within walking distance also. The ease in which to visit the downtown is great, you don't have to pay additional parking fees as you just walk a couple of blocks to get there. This would be a great place for anyone to stay whether to see your loved one graduate or a romantic weekend. Thanks so much Mr and Mrs. Tomy for having such a beautiful place and being so accommodating on letting me sneak in a little early! I appreciated your beautiful home! I will certainly look to see if it is available the next time I am in town! Coming home is always a wonderful thing, leaving is always hard. I will certainly be recommending The Craven house Carriage home to my friends!
