We loved our stay at this home. The location was perfect for our visit to the Redwood forest. Our family members loved the kayaks on the Smith River. This is our second time staying at this house and would stay again if we’re in this beautiful area again.

Peaceful and Beautiful

This is a well kept property. It was very clean. It has a well equipped kitchen with everything you need to cook a meal. The view of the river from the deck was awesome. The pictures online do not do it justice. It looks even better in person. I highly recommend this house and would not hesitate to stay here again.

A gorgeous house along the redwoods on the majestic Smith River

We absolutely loved our weeklong stay here, with plenty of room for our family of four plus small kids and passing guests. The house is beautifully equipped with everything we needed for fun in the river and relaxing on the backyard decks. A short drive takes you to dozens of hiking trails, swimming holes and camp sites in the Smith River state and federal parks. Our hosts were gracious and accommodating and we thank them for their hospitality.

Great Getaway

We stayed with our adult children and two grandchildren. Enjoyed sitting outside on the deck with our coffee, enjoying the beautiful surroundings. We even took family photos down by the river. Great house for our family.

Took 1 hour to gain access code for entry.Address very difficult to find in the dark. Landscaping around front door area hard to navigate No towels in bathrooms, they were located in the dryer. Location was very good and pictures were accurate

Smith River family vacation!

This was our second visit to the house. We love the location. My grandchildren love the river and the rope swing up the river. You can see them in the water from the house. I spent a lot of time in the kitchen, the view is amazing. Thank you so much for a wonderful family vacation.

Beautiful house on the river

Huge house on the river, beautiful view. Wi-Fi is a little spotty. Linens were somewhat washed out but owner might be replacing them for the next renters. Overall a good experience.

Marvelous time

We loved this big beautiful house with many lovely features. The upstairs particularly was inviting and welcoming. It was right on the river with a staircase to the river bank. The house was a short drive to the Redwood rainforest (Jedediah Smith). Our enchanting and inspiring visit to the Trees was thoroughly supported and enhanced by staying at this wonderful house.

Overall great stay

We were overall very pleased with our stay. We had 5 adults (2 couples and a single) in our group for about 5 days. The common areas were fantastic, with a generous kitchen (in size, cookware, and extra supplies), the living room and dining area very comfortable with plenty of seating (two of us are taller than 6 ft) and window views. The grill was great, and appreciated the Kayaks though they weren't used. Obviously, the overlook was fantastic, with stairs to the river and morning visits from herons and egrets. We sat on the deck several times for lunch. Lots of "leave behinds" from other travelers really helped make traveling easy for things forgotten at home or at the store. Laundry machines were very nice. We had to cancel one day early in the planning process, it was easily cancelled from our reservation. The primary bedroom was comfortable, though the pillows were very thin for my taste. Those staying in the other rooms said the mattresses were terribly thin, when accompanied by the thin pillows led to constant back and neck pain by the end of the week (one said it was a thin mattress literally on a piece of plywood, the other said a matress a couple inches thick with two matress pads on it). The other rooms also said they were unimpressed by the cleanliness. They wanted me to report back specifically on those issues. Other reasons we didn't give 5 stars (again, overall it was a great stay!): -the code to enter was given verbally over the phone even though I had previously texted for check in, I didn't write it down as I didn't have a pen in the rental and tired from travel and just teying to get in. So when we left, I had to stand at the door and wait for a response on what the pin was when we were trying to lock up. It seems like there is resistance to just text it, so I could reference later in the stay. - the dishwasher smells real funky - there isn't a garage door opener, so although it's promoted you don't actually get to use it. However, the driveway is very long, we never felt security was an issue. It was a great stay, I would stay again, though I apparently had the only comfy bed!

Very nice place. Would stay there again.

This place was just as described. My family and I enjoyed it very much. Unlike other places we have stayed, this home felt very much like a home. Very welcoming and the kitchen had everything you could ask for. My only suggestion would be to have better signage at the front of the driveway in order to locate the house from either direction on the road.

The backyard is everything!

The literal backyard is the Smith River, from the vantage point of a multi-level deck built amongst redwoods. Our group enjoyed sitting on the deck listening to the river, exploring the exposed river rock areas, and using the 2 kayaks that are in the garage. The river has a natural backflow-type area where one can easily launch kayaks, and you can easily paddle upstream a bit, or, you can paddle over to the main current and shoot the “rapids” (small, but moving along.) There is deck furniture though it isn’t clear from photos. The virtual backyard is Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park, and Crescent City beach and lighthouse. Perfect hiking and exploring at a relaxing pace. The house is in good condition, and thoroughly equipped. 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Still thinking about this place!

I can't believe that I forgot to write a review! We liked this home so much that I still remember the details. The location was perfect, situated on a beautiful river with overlooking decks. Large home and very comfortable. It is very close to Jedidiah Smith park, our favorite redwood park along the coast. You won't go wrong staying here!

A spacious house with a great view!

The deck and gardens are beautiful. The view of the river: amazing. The house is spacious and has an assortment of cooking tools and dishes. A few updates needed (musky lower level, towel bars in bathrooms), but overall very comfortable. Keep garbage cans in garage, because they attract bears.

A beautiful spot to unplug

We enjoyed our time at this property very much. We had four adults and two children. The bedroom setup worked great for our two families: one family slept downstairs, the other family slept upstairs. The deck is beautiful and the view of the river is amazing. Nice touches: washer/dryer, kayaks and propane grill for guest use. Some small details missing: towel bars missing in some bathrooms, shower curtain missing in the master bath, and make sure you bring extra garbage bags and your own paper towels. The full garbage cans outside left from the last guests invited the visit of a bear our first night (who made quite a mess), but the property owner took care of the trash cleanup when we called. Be aware that Hwy 101 has 2 hour scheduled closures between 9-5, Monday- Friday just south of Crescent City (spring-summer 2021) check roads.dot.ca.gov so you don’t get stuck in a 2 hour delay! Overall, a really wonderful spot to unplug and spend time with family if you plan to be in Crescent City.

Excellent stay, will come back!

We had an awesome family getaway here for 4 nights. Couldn’t have imagined the beauty in and around the property. Plenty of room for 8 people, river in the backyard, large yard in the front.

Smith river

House was great except upstairs bedroom with a bath and door to deck. The bed was very poor, the mattress needs to be replaced. The deck railing is spaced too far apart for safety especially with younger children. The tree needles were everywhere so I racked some of them up. The location was great. We loved all the amenities.

Unhappy Women

Greeted on arrival by three fragrant overflowing garbage bins three days away from pickup, the refrigerator full of half empty jars of things the Donner Party would never eat, three of four lights burned out in a bathroom, used band-aids hiding behind an almost clean toilet, a clogged sink and a smelly mattress well past its expiration date. A very nice deck above a scum filled backwater of the Smith River. We were sad.

Great Home & Amenities

During this cautious coronavirus time, I was worried about renting a home for a short family visit. Before I booked, I contacted Evolve Property Mgmt company and was instantly put at ease with their excellent cancellation policy. If I needed to cancel the trip, even at the last minute, I was told that I could re book at any of their properties for a year. I immediately booked through their easy to use reservation system. Fortunately, we were able to keep our reservation and enjoy this beautiful Crescent City home. The home was easy to access and in a great location right along the Smith River. The views are excellent and we enjoyed the provided kayaks and tubes. Fishing season opened while we were there and a couple of local kids caught a couple of steel head. The home is FULLY stocked with all of the cleaning supplies you can imagine. There were clorox wipes, kitchen/bathroom cleaners, clean towels, soap and bleach which we were able to use to keep the house clean while we were there. The spacious layout of the home allowed us to enjoy time on the deck, gathering in the kitchen to make family meals, time in the living room to enjoy the gas fireplace. All of the bedrooms were spacious and perfect for our 9 guests. There are neighbors on both sides of the house, all of which were very nice and friendly. The couple of a downsides were that the house itself was not extremely clean when we arrived. There was some dirty underwear and a single earring on the dresser in the downstairs bedroom. The bathrooms were not spotless, however I had each of our guests wipe down everything and it was fine. The downstairs area is slightly musky - there is a dehumidifier in the house, which helped with the smell. The home is a little older and can use a few updates, but the overall charm of the house makes up for minor decorative issues. All in all, this is an excellent home and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We would definitely recommend and stay again.
