We would like to thank all of our first-time and repeat guests for helping to make this year a success. The interest has been overwhelming. In the coming year we hope to sell the 122-acre ranch with 2 homes totaling 4,100 sf plus a 1,000 sf garage, 2 pools and 2 hot-tubs. We hope this million dollar property will be a dream-come true for someone as it was for us over 20 years ago. The guesthouse (vacation home) is now an internationally known destination. This spectacular piece of paradise is perfect for a discreet ROMANTIC GETAWAY or HONEYMOON. Booked to only one party at a time--ideally 1 to 2 couples--you have the whole 1,400 sf hideaway to yourselves including the expansive decks, barbecue, private pool & hot tub, fireplace, and full kitchen. For those that are looking for a more active getaway, this property offers lots of acreage for off-trail hiking and exploring, birding and nature photography. Professionally, Duane and Barbara are both in the field of architecture. Barbara is also a birder and had been trapping and banding hawks for the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory in the Marin Headlands for over 13 years before moving to the Yosemite area. She is now a Master Hummingbird Bander and has over 15,000 records in her database. Duane, a transplant from southern Oregon by way of the bay area, grew up on a farm and had a desire to get back to working with the land as well as woodworking, which has become his passion. They now love sharing this special piece of paradise with guests worldwide. Duane and Barbara have been volunteer fire lookouts for the US Forest Service for 18 years. They know the lay of the land and are more than willing to share their knowledge of the local topography. Duane is also an active member and past president of the Mariposa Rotary Club. He would be pleased to have you join him for an early morning breakfast meeting, if you need a make-up session.

Why Owner chose Mariposa
The Robinson's bought Indian Peak Ranch in 1995, after vacationing there for more than 7 years. They fell in love with the ranch from day one and had written a little note in the guestbook –-- “if you are ever interested in selling, call us”. As Duane likes to say – “it was really meant as a compliment”. But low and behold, the previous owner did call on Valentines Day in 1994 and asked if they would be interested in purchasing the ranch. After giving it some thought, they decided that they could indeed “give it all up” and move to the country. Thus they took ownership in March of 1995, and as they say, the rest is history. They have been greeting guests from all over the world since 1995. Duane and Barbara have traveled extensively, but feel lucky to call the Sierra Foothills home. They continue to find Yosemite magical no matter what time of year. Recently they were hiking in Yosemite on a remote and less-traveled trail and were lucky to find themselves sharing the forest with a Great Gray Owl, the largest owl found in North America. This rare sighting was a moment to treasure.
What makes this Cabin unique
The guesthouse at Indian Peak Ranch, known as the Yosemite Hideaway, is the original home on the property. Built in 1979, this jewel has a long and colorful history. Once you have stayed at the ranch, you will never forget it. As a recent Australian guest said – “it is a place that will stay with you forever”. It is truly that special and that magical. It is hard to describe what makes this place so special. Perhaps it is the incredible views or the solitude that words cannot describe. Honeymoon couples invariably arrive atop the mountain and quickly shed tears of joy for having found this place. This mountaintop hideaway is lodging like no other. Whether you think of it as a luxury hideaway or personal resort, it is truly unique. Of special note...Indian Peak Ranch is an official USGS scientific hummingbird research site. The owner is a Master Hummingbird Bander and is working on a population genetics study. Currently she is taking a break from banding, but you will still see lots of hummingbirds at the ranch. They go through over 800 pounds of sugar each year just to keep the hummers happy!

Heaven on Earth
When we booked our stay here, the property sounded too good to be true. It turned out that it was Better than we thought it would be. The owner's pay attention to all the details that made our stay here an awesome experience. We left late for our days at Yosemite, and came back early because we wanted to revel in the marvelous home. The views are indeed spectacular. Listening to and watching the hummingbirds was facinating. Watching the stars while in the hot tub was sublime. Writing about it cannot capture the serenity and beauty of this wonderful property and owners.
Far from the crowd but amongst the stars
A wonderful place to escape to, if you love nature and enjoy nights under the stars viewed from the comfort of the perfect house, this location is for you. There is plenty of information available from the owners and supplied in the house about nearby attractions - Yosemite Park being one of the main attractions.
The house is very comfortable, welcoming and wonderful cooking facilities are all you could need - particularly if you enjoy doing BBQs overlooking a gorgeous sunset in the valley.
Bedrooms are lovely too, choose either one and you will have wonderful views to wake up to in the morning. I highly recommend staying and I would love to come back and visit any season of the year.
Cozy yet sophisticated
We had a wonderful time on the mountain. Everything far exceeded our expectations particularly the spectacular views. The master bedroom is huge and the kitchen is updated and well equipped. After a day of hiking in Yosemite it was great to return to the ranch and just kick back and soak in the hot tub. We highly recommend staying at this special place. We hope to return.
Heaven on Earth
This hideaway is a five star accommodation like heaven on earth. The amazing house with its wonderful designed rooms an details, everything so clean and cosy. The fire place, the barbecue we had on the veranda - the evenings with a glass of wine watching the humming birds visiting the place. The unbelievable view over the area from the very top of the hill. The sunset over the valley while sitting in the hot tub or lying in the hammock! And the lovely pool and great flowers!
We loved everything so much, we didn´t want to leave - and we´ll come back for sure!
My only fear in giving this a well-deserved 5-star review is that we won't be able to get a reservation when we want to return. This is hands down the best vacation home we have ever rented. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute at the ranch. The views are stunning and the hummingbirds are amazing. The house was immaculate and the kitchen well equipped. The driveway is a kick! To our great hosts - thanks for sharing your special place. We will return hopefully in the not-so-distant future.

Charges are based on time of year, # of guests, # of nights, out-of country transaction charge if applicable, cleaning fee, 11% tax, pet fee if applicable & security deposit as noted below. $325/night (2019) for 2 guests, if booking thru this site. $35 for each additional guest. Max. occupancy is 4 guests. Tax - 11% applied to nightly rate and cleaning fee. Pet (1) Fee $25/night plus an increased security deposit - Ask about our pet policy - some restrictions apply. Damage Deposit - When you use the HA/VRBO platform for booking, a $300 damage deposit (aka security deposit) needs to be paid separately via PayPal before we will accept the reservation within the 24 hour timeframe imposed by HA/VRBO. Please note that we have a 3-night maximum as well as a 3-night minimum. Tentative reservations do not show on the calendar - Please inquire BEFORE you click "Request to Book" or "Book Now".
