362 Horse Thief Lane is located in beautifully maintained Dalton Ranch in Durango, Colorado. This 2350 square foot house is ideally located in the Animas Valley for a wide variety of year round adventures and uses. The single level, three bedroom, three bath, high-end executive retreat is a short 10 minute drive to downtown Durango, home to hundreds of great restaurants and shopping opportunities. In the opposite direction along highway 550 it is only 15 minutes to the base of the famous Purgatory ski resort. The 7th fairway for the Dalton Ranch semi-private championship golf course is right off the patio deck. Within walking distance, less than a half-mile away, is a gourmet market, a wine & spirits shop, and a True Value Hardware store, while future restaurants and retail amenities are in the works.

Our home is a bright, airy, open-floor plan that includes three bedrooms, each with en-suite full bathrooms, which will sleep up to eight guests (six adults maximum, please) comfortably. The master suite is the perfect escape for parents, and includes a king bed, steam shower, large soaking tub, reading area and a full walk-in closet. The Blue Room, facing east, has a queen bed, spacious double sink bathroom, large cedar paneled closet, and stained glass appointments. The Trimble Room, facing west, has book-lined walls, desk, a comfortable queen pull out, and two six-inch thick foam, fully upholstered sleeping mattresses ideal for children or additional guests.

The living room area has a gas fireplace, large screen television with Direct TV, entertainment center, Blueray DVD player, and deep leather couches for relaxation and entertaining. The vaulted ceiling and the glass and heavy beam trusses frame the magnificent view, which includes a passing glimpse of the classic steam engine tourist train that runs to Silverton each day during the season. You cannot hear this iconic steam whistle echoing our wild west’s past without drawing a smile. Terraced patios run down the backyard to the fairway’s edge and small pond that is likely full of transient geese, ducks, and occasional strolling deer insuring both privacy and open space living at its very best.

Our home comes with a thoroughly modern kitchen sporting all the latest amenities including, stainless steel gas oven and stovetop burners with a large grilling plate, microwave, dishwasher, coffeemaker, wine cooler, and ice machine with Bosch, Kenmore Elite, Viking, and Kitchen Aid appliances throughout. A very nice and bright formal dining room table seats 10 and offers an elegant dining area. A smaller breakfast/lunch table for four right off the kitchen, with a glass alcove facing the deck and the red rim cliffs across the valley, makes less formal meals a cinch. The open and spacious kitchen area is rimmed with high-backed stools and marble countertops ideal for informal communal meal preparations. Plenty of cabinet space and cooking/dining/table equipment is ready at hand for the most discriminating chef to prepare and host a successful dinner party.

With extras including a Kitchen Aid gas grill, outdoor wooden dining table and benches, plus casual deck dining/entertaining/lounging chairs with small end tables for cocktail hour on the large patio, a laundry area with washer and dryer, and a two car garage with plenty of additional off road parking on the extended driveway pad you will have everything you need to enjoy the Western Slope Lifestyle and the region’s pleasant, temperate weather, including three hundred sunny days each year. Durango was recently named by The Wall Street Journal as one of the five best small communities in America noting the “quality of the entire living experience.”

As fellow travelers we do not like to leave our dog at home so we understand the feelings of responsible pet owners and are very pet friendly. Let us know your pet related needs.

Dalton Ranch Golf Club, a 7,040-yard championship course, has a beautiful new clubhouse with restaurant, sports bar & pro shop, and also offers a year round fitness center (trainers and massage therapist on site), and seasonal outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts. Just beyond the golf course is the Trimble Spa and natural hot springs offering two therapy pools, an Olympic pool, and massage services. The world-renowned Trout habitat, the Animas River of the San Juan Mountains, runs through Dalton Ranch and offers gold medal fly-fishing waters just minutes from your doorstep. The San Juan National Forest offers dozens of hiking and biking trails ranging from easy to wildly exciting with just a short drive to the trailheads.

Our immaculate Durango home is an ideal choice for extended families wanting to get away from it all, and still have it all at their fingertips, nestled within the tall cliffs of the lovely Animas Valley in Southwestern Colorado. Book today!

Why Bob and Mary Rubadeau 9707089488 chose Dalton Ranch

HORSE THIEF CAMP is a newly redecorated and remodeled luxury home which the owners purchased in 2016 and would like to offer to selective renters while they are away for the summer. Bob and Mary Rubadeau would ideally like a couple or small family to spend the entire summer months from June 1st thru September 7 in one of the loveliest small towns in Colorado. Last summer we hosted a retired couple who wanted to explore the Durango area for their own long-term summer home and by the end of their stay they had purchased their own house right around the corner from us. Accommodations in the rental price may be negotiated for long term and multi-year agreements.

What makes this house unique

Our house is bordered by the 7th fairway and a sizable pond that is the vacationhome of wild geese, otters, and deer are constant visitors and the steam train whistle as it goes through Trimble Crossing is the perfect iconic western music for the post card scene.

Great House

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful house in a wonderful location, stocked with everything one could need. It is 2300+ sf that lives more like 3500 sf. It has 3 bedroom suites and a great room that make it extremely comfortable. There's a lake in the backyard with an excellent golf course on the other side of the lake. Great to watch the golfers in the evening.

This is close to fishing in several lakes and the Animas River, hiking in the National Forests. there's also a good, well-stocked market very close, so one only has to go into Durango if desired.

Bab and Mary were great to work with throughout. This is a top end VRBO location.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay. The home was perfect for us and our 4 grandchildren and dog. Plenty of activities in the area, beautiful and peacful. We did have to leave early because of the 416 fire. The owners are very accomodating and helpful. We would love to return again for another visit to this Colorado commuity.

We enjoyed the Dalton Ranch home for a week with our family. We were a party of 7, 4 adults and 3 children 11,8, and 6. We were very comfortable with 3 lovely bedrooms and 3 baths. Kitchen fully equipped, and the outdoor area beautiful for gatherings and very private with lovely view. Instruction manual with photos very helpful. Mary , owner lovely to work with; and Darcy the caretaker quick to respond to any questions. Great location , beautiful neighborhood.

Car: recommended

The signature toot-toot of a train conductor's unique mini-symphony on the steam whistle as the trains announce their arrival at Trimble Crossing brings smiles to even the most travel jaded attitudes. Your stage is perfectly set for the show. Contact Mary at 9707089488.
