We stayed in David's lovely Notting Dale flat for three weeks in June. The location is superb: right next to the Tube (Circle and Hammersmith and City lines), and a peaceful, shady ten-minute walk to Portobello Road. We were able to get everywhere we needed to go with ease. The neighborhood itself, however, was not at all touristy, and we really enjoyed that. Lots of families and kind people to meet in the green space in front of the building. There are two local co-op grocery stores nearby, plus more grocery options an easy bus or tube ride away (we liked the Tesco superstore in Hammersmith, accessible by the 295 bus). The flat itself is spacious, though not luxurious. Two bedrooms are fairly small, with bunk beds in each. Two rooms are bigger, with queen-sized beds. All rooms have nice windows looking out on the square and are fairly comfortable. The rooms get hot in the morning sun. Like most London apartments, there is no air-conditioning in this flat.David is a highly responsive host. When the washing machine broke in the first week of our stay, he quickly took action and got it sorted out. We also had a slow drain, which he also helpfully took care of.
