Why Jason and Andrea Soldini chose Weeki Wachee Gardens
In 2010, the family went on it's first Nature Coast adventure, tubing on the Ichetucknee River and scalloping in Steinhatchee. What a blast! In subsequent summers, the family explored Crystal River, Suwanee River, Homosassa Springs and finally Weeki Wachee Springs / Hernando Beach. Weeki Wachee was by far the favorite with its natural surroundlings, waterfront location, proximity to the river, gulf attractions, restaurants and shops. They returned the next year to the same vacation rental home. Since the previous years stay, a lot of thought had been given to purchasing a similar property in Weeki Wachee and purchased Mermaid Cove on W. Richard Drive. (VRBO # 747599) After a year of success and a growing family they discovered this property around the corner and fell in love with the location, size and many unique qualities!

Nice clean accommodations. Beautiful spot.
While we were very pleased with the accommodations we were very surprised that we did not have the house to ourselves. This property is split up with the main house upstairs and a one bedroom apartment downstairs. I did not realize that I was renting only the downstairs apt. until the other family arrived. While it turned out to be a great time and we made new friends, it should be made clear that this is a possibility when renting. The other family was also unaware that there could be other renters. Obviously you have your privacy indoors but you have to share the deck, fire pit, kayaks, etc. Luckily we were all compatible so it was a good time.
Sorry, you were unaware. The listing is very clear and you are the first person to mention the shock. The kayaks do not need to be shared as each unit has their own set of kayaks, canoe and SUP. Glad you had a great time.
Nice little getaway for a family of 4.
When we arrived I was a bit hesitant over the appearance of the outside. The structure was in need of pressure washing or a paint job. The entry door was covered with grime and black streaks. However, once we got past the exterior and entered the unit, the cleaner, Theresa, was there finishing up. First thing I noticed was the smell. It smelled very clean. Theresa said she used bleach (that made me happy). The unit was clean on the inside and pretty. The kitchen was adequate. No dishwasher though. Dishes were enough for 4 people only. So dishes had to be done after every meal. A surprise was on the fridge stating we were allowed 1 roll of toilet paper, 1 roll of paper towels after that we had to supply our own. With a family of 4 and a 3 night stay that would not cut it, so trip to CVS (10min away) was made. The note also identified which kayaks, SUP and canoes were ours to use during the stay. We went paddling our first night. The picture of the dock does not show the creative efforts needed to get into the water. There is a folding ladder attached to the side of the break wall and another ladder attached to the dock. Both are usable, just a bit questionable at first glance. Not more than a 8 minute paddle away was beautiful sand bar. We beached our boats and swam in the crystal blue waters. Magical. Our kids slept on the fold out bed in the sectional sofa. A window unit air conditioner kept them very cool. My husband and I stayed in the bedroom. The bed is caved in the middle. We had to stick a body pillow between us to keep from rolling into each other. There is water pump in the laundry room (about 5 feet from the bedroom) which is VERY loud and runs continuously. We learned from the owners it cools the air conditioner. Between the noise and the bed, we didn't sleep well the first night. The owners should consider insulating the laundry room to reduce the pump noise and should definitely replace the mattress. But for the price we paid, we were happy and I think you would be too.
Relaxing place to stay
We had the thrill of our lives as three Manatee swam by while we were sitting on the dock.
We had a great time!
When we arrived at Mermaid landing I was thinking about complaining about the bed. It had seen better days, swaybacked is the term that came to mind. Then Jason called to ask if he could interrupt our vacation long enough to bring in a new mattress. He didn't say he was bringing a mattress- he asked if he could. BIG difference. The new mattress was great and the interruption was minimal.
Overall the stay was great. We saw manatee from the dock at least twice. I mean AT THE DOCK, close enough to touch. Fish, turtles, lots of birds. The neighbors were quiet and polite.
Jason and Andrea, thanks for a wonderful memory.
Really enjoyed kayaking and canoeing on canal and river. Very relaxing .
It was great to be able to be able to grill outdoors. Close to pine island beach and pontoon rentals.
The bed needs a new mattress and larger coffee cups would be much appreciated.
Would be nice to have a pizza cutter.
Thanks for the tip on the mattress. We replaced the mattress last month when we were visiting. There was a pizza cutter at one point. I'll check on that when I'm there this summer. Glad you had a great time!
Perfect low stress getaway spot
We stayed here for 3 nights with two adults, and had a great time. The house was comfortable and well equipped, the location is excellent, and the included kayaks were great.
One day we kayaked up the river to Weeki Wachee state park. This is a very scenic all-day trip with no supplies or services available, so leave early and take plenty of water and snacks if you go.
We also kayaked down the river to Hospital Hole and were able to get in the water with about 5 friendly manatee who would come within a foot of us. We had it to ourselves for about 20 minutes before a big group of loud paddlers showed up, but if the timing works out it is the perfect place to see the manatee close up. The paddle back from Hospital Hole is against a fast current, it is a fairly short trip but tiring so plan accordingly.
The house is clean and well-maintained and provides all the essentials you'd need to make simple meals.
We could occasionally hear the people upstairs moving around and the cookware and furnishings showed some wear, but everything was very appropriate for a casual affordable river rental. If things like this bother you this might not be the best choice, but it worked out great for us and in sure we'll be back next year.
