About Donna

This is my grandchildren and I at Lake Blue Ridge, one of my favorite places in the world! Everyone loves Blue Ridge, great place to make lasting family memories that everyone will talk about forever!

Why Donna chose Northwest High Country

Friendly town, lots of outdoor activities, gorgeous weather.

What makes this cabin unique

RELAX and enjoy life!

Many Cherokee would farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains, leaving them during the winter and staying at the Cherokee village of Aska, or "winter home". From extreme south-central Pennsylvania the Blue Ridge Mountains run to the south and west, including land that ranges from high peaks to rolling hills like those throughout much of the southwest portion of Virginia. In southern North Carolina this high eastern ridge turns west, and continues to Springer Mountain, in southern Fannin County, Georgia. While the Blue Ridge range does continue to the west it is at this point that both the Benton MacKaye and Appalachian Trail begin their northward trek along the ridges of the Appalachian Mountains. West of the Blue Ridge range is a second series of mountains that runs from West Central North Carolina to Fannin County, Georgia. In Georgia, this range is known as the Cohuttas; further north they are called the Smoky Mountains. The Cohuttas and the Smokies are part of the Blue Ridge province, yet they are actually geologically distinct from the Blue Ridge Mountain Range and quite a bit older. In Fannin County, Gateway to the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Cohuttas rise in the west and the Blue Ridge to the south and east.

The view was amazing but not the cabin we thought we rented

  • 3 of 5

Very steep and long gravel driveway. 4 WD recommended! The cabin we thought we had purchased based on the pictures and description on the website was not the correct cabin. She owns two and we were stuck with the one that didn't have a hot tub, was smaller, no game room and not as fancy (Cabin 450). When we raised this concern it was brushed aside. Be very careful to make sure which cabin you are getting because we feel like it was a bait and switch. There is no sound proofing so if you don't want to be heard, you may want to leave the kids with grandma.

Secluded Sanctuary

This was the perfect place for our family of 4. It was the perfect balance of relaxation and activity. Everything you could possibly need can be found at the cabin. Cabinets were well stocked and there is a nice variety of books, board games and movies for all ages. You can hike around the cabin or on numerous hiking trails in the area. We have 12 yr old twin boys and they had a blast. There is an area to have a fire outside where we roasted hot dogs & marshmallows. We sat out there for hours around the fire, enjoying the quiet and looking at all the stars. The cabin is also very close to the town of Blue Ridge for groceries, shopping and restaurants. Lastly, I can not say enough about how great the owners are! We called the morning of the day we wanted to rent and although Donna was at an appt, she managed to take my calls, answer my questions and have someone to prepare the house for our arrival. I know she had to scramble to get it all done but it was seamless! We can't wait to go back!!

Wonderful Experience!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in CabinII and it far exceeded our expectations! We enjoyed the hot tub, kabobs on the large grill and the beautiful overlook of the mountains beyond the tree tops. The large playroom was full of board games, foosball, extra water shoes, hundreds of books, another TV and DVD’s for all tastes. The satellite TV and Wi-Fi were great. The special binder of maps and things to do within the area was very helpful. There are a lot of activities and events. The owner thought of everything! This is the cabin to rent if you want to get away from it all and enjoy the Blue Ridge Mountain experience!

Cabin in the Clouds

  • 5 of 5

Almost got lost but thats cause it was so secluded. If you want private and peaceful then this is the cabin for you. Everything worked great. The internet was very slow till I got it working right then it was just fine. You have to enter the pass key into your computer manually. Cabin has all amenities of home so I really didnt feel I wasnt home. All kitchen stuff with exception of food. Only short 10 minute drive to town to shop and nice main street with many shops. My only suggestion for this cabin is either a whirlpool tub in main bath or a hot tub on the deck but otherwise it was perfect. I give it a 9.5 just cause of that reason otherwise it was a 10. Owner was very helpful even calling me on the phone 5 minutes after I made reservation. Cabin was very clean spotless in fact with a washer dryer downstairs.Lots to do for family in the area or if you just need a few days to do NOTHING, this IS THE PERFECT PLACE

Owner's Response: Thank you for the delightful review! I am very happy that you enjoyed yourself. We do have another cabin with a hot tub. I have discovered over the past 15 yrs we have been doing this that people either love or totally dislike a hot tub. I think there was an issue with TDS internet while you where there. There is no passkey to enter. Guests should just select the TDS Wi-Fi connection that should automatically appear as available. Thank you again and hope to see you back!

Aska Adventure Area

  • 5 of 5

We loved this cabin! Outdoor deck space was fantastic and it was a very peaceful feeling being nestled in the trees on the mountainside. Great location within the Aska Adventure Area with the river and hiking trails so very nearby. Donna was very prompt and seemed to go above and beyond to ensure we were taken care of. We greatly enjoyed our stay!
