Why Diane Fujii Johnson chose Punaluu
Diane and Wayne's local knowledge of the ocean environment in Hawaii lead them to choose this special home located on “Kalaipaloa Point”. Located on a small point with only a handful of other beachfront homes, rarely will you see any other souls. Ideally located for snorkeling and water activities, the unique location of this property keeps the waters crystal clear and protected from large surf by an outside barrier reef. The ocean on the inside of the reef is only 3-4 feet deep and teeming with live corals, tropical fish and families of turtles. During whale season, mothers and their calves pass right outside the reef and offer the perfect photo opportunity.
What makes this House unique
Local surfer mom and Marine Biologist dad chose this piece of paradise for their own enjoyment. Scouring the shores of Oahu, this property had everything we wanted: Privacy, enclosed tropical yard, two story home to entertain, crystal clear waters with fish and turtles, a place where we can feel safe with our children enjoying the ocean right out front. Recommended for older children due to upstairs deck, sea wall and stairs leading into the ocean.

Amazing home in a great location near north shore activities.
Family of six and a toddler on a 10 day adventure in Oahu. This home has all the essentials and lots of attention to details to make your vacation care free. Excellent location on the oceanfront. Easy access to north shore or Honolulu for adventures. 15 min from a Kualoa Ranch and the Polynesian culture center. We were able to visit the entire island. Lots of great beaches and look out sites. Walking trails. Fun local places to eat and food trucks within 15 min. And less than an hour to Haleiwa for some special dinners at Joes, Beachhouse and Breakers. Snorkel and play in the ocean right off the property. Lots of great toys, snorkel gear, cooler, shoes to use on the beaches. We did cook breakfast everyday at home and several late night meals. Kitchen is awesome and lots of staples in the pantry if needed. Laundry facilities are excellent. We were able to keep all laundry clean throughout the trip. No problem with noise from the road as others have commented on. Also, yes it does rain but this should not deter you from any scheduled activities. Rains are short and keep the island green and lush. If the rain is bothering you just drive north or south for 30 min and the weather will be different. We’ve been doing vrbo vacations since our girls were little. Now they are married and starting their own families. We love staying at homes such as this that make you feel welcome and free to explore your surroundings. Thanks Dianne!!
Awesome Getaway from busy Waikiki
This was my family’s first time to Hawaii and we wanted more of a local experience so we wanted to stay out of touristy Honolulu, best decision we made. We utilized the entire house. There really was everything we could think of at the house...stocked kitchen, plenty of towels, lots of outdoor items, washer/dryer, comfortable beds and hot water. If you stay upstairs there is a bit of road noise. We just used some ear plugs or the fan to drown out the noise, but we often played so hard during the day I doubt the noise would have kept us up much. The outdoor space was wonderful. It was a good thing I planned out most of our days or my parents wouldn’t have left the lounge chairs and my husband wouldn’t have stopped fishing. Traveling to and from Honolulu was a breeze since we knew to plan around rush hour traffic and the change of scenery made the traffic we did hit seem like “what traffic?”. Thank you Diane!
Wonderful! We are so glad you took advantage of the ruralness of this area! It is truly a fabulous place to get away from the crowds and just enjoy the beauty that Hawaii offers - crystal clear oceans, white sand beaches and lush, tropical mountains. It sounds like you truly experienced Hawaii like a local, and we are thrilled that the Turtle Point Beach House made this possible for you and your family. Aloha!
Sunrise viewing is the best!
The house is beautiful and filled with all kinds of toys to help you enjoy the ocean, including fins, snorkels, water shoes, boogie boards, and life jackets. The kitchen is well stocked and we used the grill to cook the mahi mahi we caught while on a deep sea fishing tour. The kids loved the Wii and big screen TV. The only caution is that we would recommend ear plugs if sleeping in the back rooms of the house. The noise from the highway is unavoidable but quite loud and can impact sleep if you’re not accustomed to traffic noise. Other than this, our stay was wonderful. We especially loved the sunrises each morning....definitely worth rising early for.
A great ocean-front treasure.
We had a great stay at this home in Hauula. The views of the ocean, sunrises, and sunsets were amazing, and a perfect way to start and end each day. I particularly enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the water while reading a book or having a conversation. And the yard was great for my kids to run around and explore.
We were very happy with the home upon arrival; it met our needs quite well. We had four adults and three kids in our group. We rented the bottom level master as well, and my in-laws stayed there. It's a lovely suite with a work-out room next to it. (We never used the workout equipment, as we were on the move with outings each day.) The kitchen, dining room, and living room upstairs were very comfortable, and provided almost everything we needed. (I thought it was advertised to seat 8 at the table, but there were only 6 chairs. We solved that by using a stool for one of my kids.)
The location worked out well for us. The North Shore, Polynesian Cultural Center, Kualoa Ranch, Shark's Cove, Waimea Falls, and many other sights are in easy reach. It was also only 45-60 minutes to get to Kailua, Pearl Harbor, The Bishop Museum, and many other great spots. This is a quieter area than Kailua, Waikiki, and other common tourist areas, and we recommend getting out of the busy traffic and staying here. There are also lots of great little spots on Kamehameha Hwy near this home to stop for fresh coconuts, huli chicken, poke, and other local treats, as well as two grocery stores and a drug store being only a short drive away.
One thing to note--in order to be right on the ocean in this area you have to also be right on Kamehameha Hwy, and two of the bedrooms upstairs (the master and the room with the double or queen bed) were facing the street. That meant lots of traffic noise each night, including sirens on multiple nights.
Diane, the owner, was very responsive to us, both in the year prior to our visit after we made the reservations, as well as during our stay. There were a few minor things we needed addressed while we were there, and she responded right away and the issues were immediately solved. I definitely recommend this home and this owner. We had a great week!
I would rate this a 4 1/2 stars if it would let me--if not for the traffic noise when we slept at night, I'd give it 5 stars. (Notably, the downstairs master is far enough back that they didn't hear the traffic at all.)
We were very pleased with this home. It was very clean and very comfortable. Nice towels and bedding. We rented the whole house for our family of 5. Each of my children had their own room upstairs, while my husband and I slept downstairs. We loved the easy access to the ocean. We didn't get much use of the backyard because it was a very rainy/windy week, but I could see this being a beautiful spot when the weather is good. The owner was very kind and responsive when we had questions. There was a small problem with the garage door that didn't cause us any trouble, but she had someone out right away to repair it. We would absolutely rent this home again, and wouldn't hesitate to work with these owners.
We had six in our family group including one 7 year old who loved the bunk beds. You can swim and snorkel right off the yard. Plenty of plates, silverware and utensils in the kitchen. Comfortable home. Only drawback is it is right on the highway - noisy in the early morning and at nighttime commute.
The best route is from the airport is 1. Get on the freeway heading H-1 to Honolulu, get all the over into the far left lane immediately 2. It will go into a short tunnel. Take the next exit: Likelike Hwy. Once you go up the mountain, and decend, stay in the right lane - Kahekili Hwy 3. All lanes merge as Kahekili Hwy turns into Kamehameha Hwy, a two-lane highway towards North Shore., which the house is located on. Restaurants, Grocery Shopping: 5 minutes past the house in Hauula Kai: Buy your beer and wine here. Tamuras: VERY Local, Poke and raw fish counter when you walk in. Excellent! Would try the 1. Spicy Ahi 2. Limu Ahi Poke and 3. Look for the only Stop light in the area, make a Left. Laie is a Mormon town and is dry - NO alcohol and everything is closed on Sundays. Foodland: Hot and Cold prepared foods, grocery store Gas Station, Hardware Store for fishing supplies, Auto Parts Store Kahuku Sugar Mill: 10 minutes away Food Truck Central- Best Shrimp Truck is the Original Giovanni's.
