Seaview on Burton: This Tudor style home sits above a Monterey pine forest sweeping a half mile down to the ocean, one of the few vacation homes in the area which borders a forest preserve. The quaint seaside village of Cambria is a leisurely five minute drive from the property.
You are within seconds of scenic walking trails through pine-forested Strawberry Canyon,' which lies directly behind the property. The beach is an easy 15-minute walk through the woods and along quiet residential streets. You can pick through the tide pools at nearby Lampton Cliffs park, or walk along the boardwalk bluff trail or on the miles of forest and marine terrace paths of the stunningly beautiful public Fiscalini Ranch Preserve.

PLEASE NOTE: Seaview on Burton is a site-managed property, similar to a Bed and Breakfast. A separate unit below the main house is occupied by a manager responsible for the forest fire watch, house services (internet, heating, plumbing and laundry), and guest assistance. This unit is completely private and and accessed separately. We have found over the course of our 11 years of operation that this arrangement ensures the property is adequately maintained and guest needs are addressed promptly.

About James Kelty
As writer and documentary filmmaker working in many areas of California, I moved with my family from Los Angeles to this spectacular part of the Central Coast in 1988, both as an inspirational retreat and a place with easy access to other areas of the Golden State.
James Kelty purchased this House in 2000
Why James Kelty chose Lodge Hill
We love back country hiking and mountain biking, particular in Big Sur, for which Cambria is the southern gateway, as well as kayaking in San Simeon Cove. The area is also rich in history, which is my area of expertise as a writer/producer, so that made it an equally good fit. Cultural and environmental attractions include Hearst Castle and the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. I work with both of these organizations on interpretive media projects.
What makes this House unique
My hope is that guests coming to this special house bordering the forest and the ocean will leave feeling refreshed and inspired.

Thank you for making our second honeymoon a success. What a beautiful setting!
Very comfortable in Cambria. Sunsets second to none. Highly recommend!
Outstanding property with all the necessities and then some. Home away from home. Fully equipped kitchen, newer appliances, plenty of room to make those home cooked meals. All furnishings are very clean and comfortable. Large master bedroom with siting area and balcony. Two other bedrooms are spacious. Living room with fireplace is the ultimate area to chill inside. Large 1st floor balcony offers perfect outdoor area to gather- BBQ'ing or just relaxing and let the world go by. Nature area behind house has wildlife galore. Deer, turkey, and hawks make for wonderful viewing. And then there is the ocean view......... ahhh
This property more than exceeded my expectations.
As we drove through the forested neighborhood, we took notice of all the surrounding homes, but nothing compared to our delight when we drove up to Seaview at Burton. This property stands apart from the rest and is utterly charming! I felt like I was visiting the by gone era of the 40’s with the various architectural details. If you are like me and have an affinity for both the ocean and forest, this is a property to experience. We spent countless hours on the deck enjoying the serene views and pine scents. We took an abbreviated hike on the Strawberry Trail and was blessed to have wandered upon two adorable deer. My only regret is that we didn’t have enough time to really explore all of the quaintness of Cambria. Seaview at Burton will undoubtedly be added to our collection of unforgettable family memories. Thank you for allowing me and my family into your home.
It was everything promised and more!
We loved our stay at Seaview on Burton! We were looking for a place to enjoy some time with our adult children away from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco and this place was perfect! It is a quiet, peaceful area as promised, with views just like you see online. The house was furnished with comfortable furniture, and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals. The walk to beach was a little longer than anticipated, but it was a beautiful walk!
The homeowner James was great host, the check in process was easy and everything was as promised. The house rules very well outlined (we loved that) and not unreasonable. We can hardly wait to go back and enjoy this property again. Giving it a 5 star rating is no exaggeration. Everything about it was outstanding!
Lovely Get Away
The home is lovely and beautiful. However, the 1 st floor is not accessible and there is no immediate forest/ trail access from the home. But if you visit purely for relaxation, the house is gorgeous with breathtaking views of the trees and ocean. Very serene. And James Kelly is very kind and approachable!
Thank you for the compliments. The house is built out over a hillside. The only part not available is the understory, which is below the first floor and below ground level. The first floor is street level, with garage, living room, dining room, kitchen, breakfast nook, bathroom and garage. The second floor has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and deck from the master bedroom. So the first floor certainly is “available.” The forest bordering the property’s ocean side is a public preserve, the entrance to which is about 300 feet down the street.
Beautiful home and gorgeous view.
The kitchen is well equipped and the house is spacious and beautiful. The views are amazing and the neighborhood is very quiet. We enjoyed our time immensely.
