About the property

3 bedroom; 2 1/2 baths; large sleeping loft with queen/twin log bunkbed

Welcome to the Bennett Place! This authentically designed two-story log cabin was designed in Chicago and erected at 500 N. Henson Street, just four blocks from the center of Lake City and easily within walking distance from the coffee shops, restaurants, bakery, sporting good stores, and shopping district. Elegantly furnishised with all of the amenities of home, this 3200 SF log cabin offers pristine views of the river and surrounding mountain ranges. The adjacent footbridge provides access to miles of walking and biking trails. Or just fish off the banks along the back yard. It's all right there. A well-equipped playground for family enjoyment is in the favorite city park nearby. This unique home is exquisite in every respect. The Bennett Place is directly next door to the River Cabin (VRBO #302010), another Mountain Memories property, which can be leased at the same time to house larger groups, sharing the expansive riverfront property with fire pit and gazebo. Approximately one mile way is the Vandiver Cabin (VRBO #427595), the third Mountain Memories property, also available for lease through VRBO.

On the first floor, large windows in the family seating areas provide a scenic view of the spacious backyard, pristine mountain peaks, and the Lake Fork of the Gunnison River. Access to the river allows for enjoyment of frequent fly-casting. The back deck, furnished with comfortable chairs, encourages relaxation and enjoyment of the mountainous views. In addtion, small or large groups can enjoy grilling outside on the back porch or roasting food around the fire pit near the river. The back yard entices frequent visitations by friendly, curious deer and local wildlife (don't feed the bears!). A dinner "catch" is within one hundred feet of the house. The downstairs master suite is furnished with a striking king-sized bed, luxury linens, and matching dresser accented with a flat-screen television. The adjoining master bath with spacious storage has a separate shower and a stand-alone claw-footed tub as well as a vanity with sink.

Additionally, upstairs you will find two large, beautifully decorated bedrooms furnished with queen-sized beds and matching dressers. Both rooms have large walk-in closets and convenient private in-room sink lavatories. Adjacent to the south bedroom is a full size bathroom with shower, toilet, and sink.

Separating the two bedrooms upstairs is an expansive "great room" suitable for recreation and/or sleeping. It is furnished with a queen/long twin log bunkbed, sofa hide-a-bed, and a matching extra-wide chair which also doubles for a single bed. The area is complemented with a flat-screen television, PlayStation 3 for games or DVD movies, foosball table, and a large table for playing games, working on puzzles, or enjoying various projects.

The open area between the upstairs bedrooms overlooks the kitchen, living, and dining areas below. The expansive balcony provides another magnificent view of the outside landscape.

Downstairs on the ground level, the beautiful, well-equipped kitchen will delight any chef. The gourmet kitchen is completely appointed with electric cooktop, oven, toaster, microwave, dishwasher, disposer, Keurig, baker's oven, crock pot, sandwich maker, and pots and pans galore. You'll even have several sets of china to choose from! A large assortment of cookware, myriad cooking utensils, and vast array of china dishes and crystal stemware provide the basics for entertanining or an intimate family meal. An additional table in the kitchen seats three. The kitchen opens to the adjacent dining area with table place settings for eight. Proximity makes serving a meal easy and accessble, even to family and friends on the outside veranda.

Adjoining the dining area are two living areas with seating on plush sofas and chairs to accommodate twelve or more people. One is configured for intimate conversations, reading, or relaxing, and the second seating area includes sofa and chairs surround another large flat-screen television. The two areas make great gathering places for meals, socials, relaxation, and entertainment.

Adjacent to this residence is a walking bridge over the river. It connects miles of walking and biking trails along the river and Henson Creek. With fishing access to the river, expansive mountain views, and wildlife watching, this cabin and its location provider opportunities for a GREAT COLORADO VACATION!

Joslyn purchased this cabin in 2016

We felt perfectly at home, and we’ll be back!

  • 5 of 5

My family has been coming to Lake City since 1981 and we’ve stayed in probably 12 different properties over the course of those years—and this was BY FAR our favorite. It’s a quick and non-challenging walk to all parts of Lake City. We loved having the river in our back yard (and the back porch was heavenly!) Inside, we very comfortably slept my husband and me, my parents, and five teenagers. Never once did we feel like we were on top of each other or crowded—we probably could’ve squeezed in one or two more people. The kitchen is well appointed, appliances are great—it definitely felt like we were in someone’s much-loved home, not a vacation rental. We’d come back and stay here again in a heartbeat. (One recommendation: If you stay here—and you definitely should—bring a fan for every bedroom or ask for some at the property management office if you come in the summer. Even with windows open the upstairs was quite warm in the evening, especially in the loft.) One of our best vacations ever!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind words! We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay. We will definitely look into getting fans for all of the rooms. This summer has been unseasonably warm. Thanks again for your feedback.

A Terrific Vacation!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had 9 people staying in the beautiful home, it was perfect! Plenty of room for everyone and everything we needed was in the home. Joslyn, the owner, was very accommodating, helpful and eager to answer any questions we had. This was our first experience with Home Away and VRBO and we were very pleased! Thanks Joslyn and VRBO for helping us have a terrific vacation!!!

Owner's Response: I am so pleased that you had a wonderful vacation! We are happy to share our "home away from home." This cabin is indeed spacious for large groups and is in an ideal location with the river behind and town a block away. Hope you will come back to Lake City and stay with us again! Joslyn

Wonderful Fsmily Reunion Venue!

  • 5 of 5

Seven of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this 'cabin.' We were very comfortable -- we could have easily handled a larger group. The cabin is fully equipped, beyond what is normally found in a VRBO. The artwork, new landscaping and nearby river just added to the ambiance of this very delightful venue. We enjoyed the shops, restaurants and slower, comfortable pace of life in Lake City!

Beautiful Cabin in a Prime location

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this cabin! We had 3 families stay here and there was plenty of room for everyone! We had 6 adults, 1 teenager and 3 kids (ages 1,3,3,4,5).

The kitchen has plenty of pots, pans, dishes, coffee mugs, and even a crock pot and griddle that was great for pancakes! The couch and chair upstairs pull out into a bed, plus there was a cot and blow up mattress in the upstairs closet. However our littles preferred to to sleep on pallets in the big closet upstairs for a week long slumber party!

It was slightly inconvenient to only have 2 showers with 12 people, and only 1 toilet upstairs, but it was a minor inconvenience.

It's only .4 miles to town and we walked to the soda fountain and park almost every day. We loved being on the river, and the easy access to the bridge and walking trail was amazing for the kids!

My husband caught a 14" rainbow trout in the river right behind the cabin, which was his highlight of the trip.

We will definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone heading to lake city!
