In Taos, New Mexico, at the end of Morada Lane, just two blocks east of Taos Plaza, you'll find an intimate lodging option for your southwestern retreat. The northeast wing of the home was originally Saint Teresa's Mission in the mid to late 1800's. Later in the 1930's, it was part of the Mabel Dodge Luhan estate, then Taos Society of Artists' Victor Higgins' studio.

In recent years, the registered historic landmark was a prestigious art gallery. Georgia O'Keefe was inspired to paint her famous "cross series" here. She was enchanted by the light playing upon the old morada behind the house which is surrounded by sacred Taos Pueblo land. Ansel Adams, D.H. Lawrence and many other intriguing guests have also stayed here over the years.

Peaceful and serene, Casita Morada is now available to inspire you. It is ideal for creative artists and writers who appreciate "a certain slant of light" and a relaxing place for quite reflection.

Why the Owner Chose Taos

Our home has rich history of connecting the artists and cultures of the area. Bordered by sacred Taos Pueblo land, and overlooking the old morada, there is a sense of peace and tranquility yet we are close to everything in town.

The Unique Benefits at this Estate

With four beautiful seasons, a spectacular view of Taos Mountain, and constantly changing light, Casita Morada is the perfect place to be whether you are skiing, hiking, painting or reflecting.

Owner's Map of Taos

I am thrilled to be part of a fun loving family of eight. Our collective love of art, music, fresh air, travel and learning keeps our lives vivid and full of wonderful memories together.

One season we are taking in the crisp autumns, snowy winters, breathtaking mountain vistas and eclectic history of Northern New Mexico. Next we are soaking up the warm sunshine, tropical breezes, luscious flavors and sacred spirit of the Hawaiian Islands.

We are privileged to have found ourselves stewards of three remarkable properties in these magical locations. We have lovingly revived these homes, taking great care to honor the history and sacred space of each one.

It is our pleasure to share with you, our gracious guest, these special places so dear to our heart. Welcome, and may your visit with us become part of your own collection of wonderful memories!

Aloha!

We came to commemorate a very special tenth anniversary-having survived cancer, retirement, mental & physical afflictions and rediscovering art, music and life in our fifties. This place embodied for us the meaning of all those journeys. I found myself held within the tenacious and worthy grasp of Santa Teresa of Avila and began reading your copy of Mirabai Starr's very gifted translation of her Interior Castle, then purchased a take-home-study-and-mark copy of my own. Meditations in front of the fireplace were memorable, by the way. Thank you for providing the library. We sat often outside in silence watching the cottonwoods turn loose their leaves, listening to the water tinkle like bells in the leaf strewn ponds. To care-take a holy, sacred place is the employment and avocation of one inspired and one gifted in spirit. Thank you for holding this spot on earth so gently, so lovingly, so tenderly in your protective palm. Grateful and full with memories, Mama, Ruth, Edna & Felicia P.S. The wine was wonderful. A beautiful agent of welcome.

We arrived late last night and can't express how in love we are with Casita Morada. It is PERFECT--you've thought of every possible detail to both reflect authentic New Mexico flavor and to make us comfortable here. I told Michael I'm ready to move in! I can't think of a better place to introduce my sweetie to New Mexico. We are so grateful for the opportunity to enjoy your historic and beautiful home. I've brought my camera so expect a bunch of photos soon! I can't stop myself when it comes to beautiful interiors. Best regards, Rebecca

Wonderful!

What a peaceful, delightful setting -- yet close enough to stroll to the plaza. Waking up to unobstructed views of the mountain -- watching the scarlet dissipate in early morning skies -- terrific. We thoroughly enjoyed our evenings in front of the kiva fireplace and the meditative courtyard. Hope to stay again soon.

Stayed two nights at this absolutely wonderful rental. Classy, convenient, warm, inspirational, inviting, and rejuvenating! One of the best vacation rentals in my experience. My dog even had a good time. Thanks Bob and Jessica.

Dear Jessica, I just want to thank you for the warm welcome back to your beautiful home. We had such a nice time, truly the best spring break I have ever had. We enjoyed every moment at the casita and feel rejuvenated and inspired by all the beauty there. Also, thank you for the welcome basket, it didn't take long to dig into the delicious snacks, the chocolate was gone too quickly! It feels good to know that there is a place such as yours that repeatedly brings us joy and peace and is only 5 hours away. It was nice to visit with you and Bob too. Bryan does alot of networking with his job and has already been spreading the word about your property. With love and gratitude, Michele ps...we did go to Cafe Loka, had delicious soup and chocolate pie, thanks for the heads up. If you happen to find any info about the blue light in the schoolhouse, let me know, Lisa just loved that!

From the tranquil fountains outside to the beautiful rugs inside - our trip to New Mexico was off to a wonderful start when we walked into the casita.
