Far Tortuga is located mid-island on the south side of Roatan approximately 20 minutes from the airport and 10-15 minutes from shopping and restaurants in French Harbour. It is a secluded, 3 bedroom, 2 bath, oceanfront home, sleeps 7 in the bedrooms and up to 2 on the sofa bed comfortably ,is in the small community known as First Bight.
The house, finished in 1994, features a modern, granite countertop, fully-equipped kitchen with all conveniences: gas cook top, wall oven, disposal, dishwasher, microwave, coffee-grinder and coffee-maker, toaster oven, food processor, blender, etc. The tiled great room, which encompasses the living room, kitchen, and dining area, is large and airy and feels even more spacious because of the stunning vaulted wood cupola ceiling and the massive wood French doors that line the sides of the room facing the ocean. These doors all open to catch the ocean breezes and beckon to visitors to barbeque on the gas grill or just relax and watch the sunset from the over 2000 square feet of decks and gazebos that wrap-around the exterior of the house. In February 2008 we completed construction of an infinity pool that overlooks the ocean and the stone patios and benches surrounding it are perfect for sunbathing. The living room contains an entertainment center complete with DVD player and cable TV (bring your favorite DVDs or rent them on island). We also have a wireless iPod and CD player.
All three bedrooms possess vaulted ceilings, island style louvered windows, ceiling and floor fans, hardwood floors, luxury linens, and the two largest bedrooms open via French doors onto their own ocean view decks. Our master bedroom is very privately situated in its own wing and includes a queen bed with a walk-in closet, a huge master bathroom with his and hers vanity sinks and a walk-in shower. The other two bedrooms share a full bath with tub/shower on the opposite side of the house. One room contains a bunkbed and an extra long twin and the other bedroom has a queen bed and another huge walk-in closet. There is a very comfortable sofabed in the living room and a queen-size aero-bed if you want to sleep under the stars in one of the gazebos.
On the lower level of the home there are two separate garages which house a large washer and dryer for guest use. There is ample space for parking vehicles either in or outside of both garages.
The turquoise waters of the Caribbean are literally steps away from the house across the Ironshore. In addition, there is always easy access through the community dock a short walk away in First Bight or at the community beach a few doors down from the house. A two person kayak and 2 single kayaks are also available for your pleasure.
Some of the best wall diving on Roatan is a short swim or kayak in front of this house where the snorkeling is also excellent. Snorkeling and dive equipment rentals are a few minutes drive away, and there are many dive operators to choose from on the island.
For less adventurous guests, we suggest lazing in the pool or on the covered porches watching for dolphins or enjoying the many hummingbirds that visit the feeders and hibiscus blooms surrounding the decks. Other wildlife to watch for include: hermit crabs, land crabs, geckos, iguanas, and the lizards known on the island as 'Monkey La-las'. These lizards are quite tame and enjoy offerings of tropical fruit.
On arrival at Roatan Airport Kevin and Claire, our Property Managers, will be on hand to help you with picking up your rental vehicle (which we highly recommend in order for you to make the most of your stay) and then escort you to the house.
First night snacks and first morning breakfast items will be provided along with a bottle of chilled white wine for your enjoyment!
Kevin and Claire will be on hand throughout your stay to provide advice and assistance so that your vacation will be hassle free and will be easy to contact on the cell phone that is available for your use whilst on the island.
Come stay at Far Tortuga - we know that you'll be glad you did!

My husband and I had yet another amazing vacation in Roatan. This is the second time that we have traveled to Roatan and the second time we stayed in this house. Frankly, there is no where else we would rather stay. The house is simply perfect. In my opinion it is in the perfect location---away from all the tourist attractions yet surrounded by beautiful reefs with amazing snorkeling. And, if you do want to spend time on the west end, it is only a short drive from the house. We did venture down to the west end a time or two but were always eager to get back to the peacefulness of our house. We had friends join us for most of the trip and the house is perfect for two couples. And, there is more than enough room to bring a few kids along too! We plan to bring our little one next time! The property managers, Claire and Kevin, are just amazing. They do everything to make your stay enjoyable and worry-free. When people ask me what it is that I love so much about Roatan and this particular house, my response is that it is the complete package. You take a direct flight from the US to one of the most beautiful places on earth, are greeted at the airport by two people who will bend over backwards to make your stay perfect, and you are surrounded by some of the best diving and snorkeling spots in the world. You can't beat it! The one thing we did this trip that was a highlight for us, was a day long sailing trip with Captain Ed and Julie. Their boat is called the Free Radical. Ed, Julie and their crew treat you like kings and queens for a very reasonable price. To sum it all up, go to Roatan and stay at this property. You will get spoiled rotten for a price that you can't beat!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My wife and I, with adult kids along, traveled to Far Tortuga on Roatan to discover a home that is more beautiful and relaxing than can be imagined. It is beautifully decorated and comfortable. The comfort, location and ease was astounding. Property managers, Claire and Kevin met us at the airport and assisted with our every need. They were great and you should listen to their advice on food and beer. The infinity pool, looking towards mainland Honduras, was sheer perfection and was comfortable morning, noon and night. Shade is everywhere at the house as is the sun when desired. The kitchen had everything we could need for cooking and eating. Looking out at the water was a neverending favorite past-time for us all with a wonderful breeze to boot. The house and every room were spotless and clean. Diving with Fantasy Island was very close and spectacular. Diving was also great right off the dock. The reef in front of the house is beautiful and fully alive. We enjoyed a drive out to Camp Bay and hanging out on the beach there and recommend doing that. Otherwise, the house is all you really need. We will surely be returning. Thanks to the owner and property managers for their help in making this a wonderful vacation. Leaving was very difficult as we fell in love with this island.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Had a splendid stay in a lovely, spacious home that was accurately advertised. The property managers, Claire and Kevin, do a first rate job and give loads of info. The kayaks which we used on the nearby lagoon are fun. Took a trip to St Helena by boat. You need a rental car because the house is located a couple of miles from the main road. Scuba and snorkelers especially would enjoy Roatan. No beach as such, but you can access the water about 200 yds away by a dock. This area is much less congested than the West end and a more enjoyable experience for us. Perfect for 2 couples, but there is another small bedroom that has bunkbeds for 3 or 4. This is my 2nd stay at Far Tortuga. Picture this: sitting on deck enjoying morning coffee, sunrise, and local fisherman out front fishing. This year we were joined by a pod of some 10-12 swimming mammals, locals say Dolphins or Pilot Whales. Unsure but I have the photo and hopefully I can get dorsal fin identified. Weather again was fantastic, and the property managers are very helpful with our requests. Roatan is a wonderful place to vacation and Far Tortuga has all the conveniences of home plus snorkelling or scuba diving right off the deck makes this the home away from home that fullfills all my needs. Amazing stay...Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This review is long overdue. I stayed in Far Tortuga with my husband and another couple for a week last February. We stayed in a more populated part of the island the previous week, it was a nice change to get away from it all and stay in a quiet and remote location. The kitchen was completely stocked with anything (and much more) than we needed. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom well stocked with towels, and a closet full of extra sheets and plenty of beach towels. This home does not have air conditioning, but it doesn't need it with the wonderful ocean breezes and the fans. The property managers, Kevin & Claire, couldn't have been more kind and accomodating. It was nice to know they were only a phone call away if we needed anything. And Kevin popped in every couple of days to take away our trash, check in on us, and tell us a funny story or two. There is a security guard who watches over the neighborhood. I don't know if he sees much 'action', but it was nice to know someone was looking out for us. There is also an alarm system in the house. The pool is small, but it was the perfect size for four, we never felt crowded. It's perched above the iron shore, a perfect spot for an afternoon cocktail while tossing the iguanas fruit and watching the dive boats go by. We spent most of our time in the pool or on the deck, what an amazing view! If you're a diver, Barefoot divers are a short drive away. My husband dove with them every day and raved about his experiences with them. We didn't snorkel in the ocean in front of the house because the sea was too rough every day of our stay. My friend did snorkel in the bight but was later told by Kevin that the bight is home to several crocodiles. I don't know if they're a big threat to snorkelers, but be aware that they're in there. The house is far from West End/West Bay, but it was much closer to the Iguana farm, Pirate's of the Caribbean zip lines, Oak Ridge, Jonesville, Camp Bay, and Punta Gorda. The nearest supermarket was just a short drive into town. You need to rent a vehicle with this home, nothing is within walking distance. Every glowing review left before me is true, every amenity and description left by the owner is as well. Far Tortuga is beautiful property, but more importantly, it felt like a home. Thank you, Anne, Kevin, & Claire, for a wonderful week in a lovely home!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Just got back from 2 weeks at Far Totuga. There were three couples and everyone had a great time. The house had eveything we needed. Loved the location. Didn't want to be by a much of tourists. Cooked diner everyday but one. Getting fresh fish and lobster from Warren (local fisherman) no reason to go out. Snorkling right in front of the place was great. If it was windy and waves to high to snorkle just took the kayaks out and played in the waves. My sister and family came the second week we were there and they rented a house in the West end. Didn't compare. They pool was great to cool of in and have a drink. Would recommend it to everyone.Definetly need a car( 4 wheel drive prefable). Only paved road was the main road running East-West. Beware of the driving of the cab drivers and motorcycles.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers.

This has been our second vacation at FAR TORTUGA. Its a beautiful home to spend quality family time and very near to great diving sites. Without hesitation, we all decided to come back to this same home for our Easter Vacation. The view of the ocean is great from all areas of the house. The kitchen, the deck and the swimming pool are the center of activities at the house. One mile away is Coco View Resort, which we consider the most professional diving centers around. The diving sites around the house are the BEST! We don't care West End is 40 minutes away. We prefer a more private location away from the noise and party activity of West End. Far Tortuga is a home to relax, great diving and spend great quality time with the family. For sure, we will come back to the same home for a future vacation.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children.

For us, Far Tortuga was a dream come true, and a much needed respite. The villa is lovely, and well appointed; the décor an airy tropical arrangement of rattan and warm colors with a delightful sampling of local art. Windows dominate the far walls allowing an incredible view of the lush green foliage, the jeweled Carribean beyond, with mainland Honduras visible on the horizon. Villa owner, Anne was just wonderful to work with – truly more like dealing with a friend rather than someone whom I’d never met. And Villa Managers, Kevin and Claire were at our very beck and call (only a cell-phone call away). We felt very well taken care of. Far Tortuga is centrally located on the south shore of the island (a short drive to Eldon’s and the Bulk Gourmet) – southern breezes keep the mosquitoes and noseeums (aka sand flies) at bay. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring Roatan, and snorkeled some awesome reefs (including the one directly behind the house). Kayaking First Bight was fun too. On rainy days, we just relaxed and read from the villa’s collection of books - going from the comfy Great Room, to the hammocks, to the infinity pool (my husband’s favorite spot). We highly recommend Far Tortuga, and hope to return ourselves next year.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
