Map & Owner's Profile
Plum Cottage, Kalispell, Mt: Ideal Edge of Town Location
Year Purchased: 2006
Why the Owner Chose Kalispell
I grew up in Kalispell, Montana. I've been to many other beautiful places, including the rain forests of Panama and the fjords of Norway, but somehow there's no place like home. Glacier National Park (near Kalispell) just takes my breath away every time I'm there.
One of my favorite places ever since childhood has been Lone Pine State Park, with its panoramic views. When I saw a for sale sign in front of an old farmhouse on my way to hike at Lone Pine, I knew I had found my next project!
The Unique Benefits at this House
The Plum's biggest benefit is location, location, location! You couldn't get closer to town without actually being in it, so you have all the conveniences of nearby shopping, restaurants, and culture. On top of that, a sweet little creek runs through the backyard, you have a view of the mountains beyond, you're a stone's throw away from Lone Pine State Park, and Glacier Park is about a 45 minute drive.
Plum Cottage has a unique, old-fashioned charm, with modern conveniences. It has a fireplace for the cooler months, and a great deck with a gas grill overlooking the creek for the warmer months. It has central air, wireless internet, and four televisions with digital cable. The home and grounds are very clean and tidy.
A popular swimming and boating spot. Flathead Lake is the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi.
Owner's Map of Kalispell
Hi, I'm Kathy, the owner of Plum Cottage. The photo was taken at Hidden Lake in Glacier Park. When I retired after 25 years of teaching (mostly 2nd grade), I had no idea what the next phase of my life would bring. Then the notion of fixing up an older home to resell presented itself, and the more I told myself it was crazy, the more I wanted to do it! I had remodeled my own home to make an apartment for my father a few years ago, and found that I really enjoyed the process. So I channeled my carpenter grandfather, became a student of HGTV, and jumped in feet first! In the end, though, once I had put my heart and soul--and sweat--into this special old farmhouse, I fell completely in love with it. The original plan of reselling it was discarded, and the new plan of starting a vacation rental was born. Being able to exercise my creativity and share something I love with others has been very rewarding.
If I'm not doing Plum-related work I'm probably working on another rental, reading a good book, hiking, or visiting friends.

We spent Thanksgiving weekend in this lovely house. Kathy the owner was very accommodating due to some unexpected changes to our plans. The house is spotless, tastefully decorated and well equipped, all the way down to an endless supply of firewood for the fireplace. She has thought of every need her guests may desire. We would highly recommend and know we will be return customers. It does have a nice deck and creek running by the property. One of our better VRBO finds.

What a lovely place! Plum Cottage was a delightful, clean, comfortable haven of rest for us during our Kalispell visit. We enjoyed the frosty winter views of the mountains from the coziness of the cottage. What a surprise it was to have deer sightings right outside in the neighborhood. Loved the hikes to Lone Pine State Park, too.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Plum Cottage. You left nothing undone to make our visit perfect. It's so welcoming and attractive and has all the comforts of home--but not the clutter. The house is tidy and as clean as can be. How we enjoyed our time relaxing on the deck! It's nice to sit out there--to hear the songbirds and look at the creek, fields, horses and beautiful sunsets. We even had a deer walk through the back yard one afternoon.

Plum Cottage is a delightful home for a visit to Kalispell: charming, warm, and welcoming. Each bedroom is well-appointed, the linens are wonderful, and the home is clean and fresh. The view of the mountains is gorgeous! We enjoyed the fireplace, the well-stocked kitchen, and the serene setting. The owner left fresh flowers for us, a welcoming note, and phone numbers to call if we had any problems (which we did not). Close to town, yet away from noise, Plum Cottage is a great place to stay.

We brought our family here for a short break and had the perfect time! My 18 month old daughter had a great time, playing and exploring the garden and watching the birds and wildlife that live right in your back yard. It was my wife's first trip to Kalispell and plum cottage offered everything we could have wanted and more, very clean, convenient for local shopping, a short trip to all amenities and perfect to relax and enjoy the peaceful setting. We just didn't want to leave! Kathy was extremely helpful and friendly dealing with our many enquiries and questions about the cottage and surrounding area. Kathy is a credit to Kalispell hospitality and she really does go the extra mile to ensure your stay is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible! We wil be back again real soon to our new 'home away from home'.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers.
