WOW- My wife and I snuck out of town for a short weekend to celebrate our anniversary. We were hoping for a quiet setting where we could enjoy eachothers company, a bottle of wine and a cozy fire. The cabin provided everything were were looking for and much more. Matter of fact, we enjoyed ourselves so much we contacted the property owner and arranged to stay an additional night. The cabin was stunning, it reminded me of a gingerbread house, strategically located on the ridge of the bluff top with a perfect view of the Mississippi River/Lake Pepin. It was very clean and tastefully decorated. We easily found all of the items we needed for our stay and took advantage of a few of the extras we stumbled across like the sound system on the main floor. The large stone fireplace became the focal point of our stay. I like the fact that it was easy to start and there was plenty of dry wood within close reach. The spring leafless trees provided a panoramic view of water from nearly every window. We took advantage of the warm weather and walked the upper property strolling through the heavily wooded lot, taking in nature at its best. The long driveway and lightly traveled access road were great for taking a walk any time of day- the views of the Rush River Valley were specatular. We caught sight of a few eagles as they made their way around the river valley, soaring in the sky and even landing in a tree very close to the cabin, it was quite the spectacle. I would recommend this property for a romantic get away, a girls weekend or a guys weekend. There are many great golf courses in the area, fishing, boating or simply sharing time together. Thanks Rob for sharing this wonderful property, we'll definitely be coming back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: WOW- Thanks for the wonderful review! We pride ourselves in making everything as enjoyable as possible for your stay with us at Lion Downe Cottage.

I would highly recommend this beautiful cottage for a retreat away from home but close to the cities. The place was very comfortable and accommodating for our large group. It provided all the comforts from home in addition to the beautiful views of Lake Pepin. The owners were very receptive to our few suggestions and the beds were very comfortable. We will definitely visit again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Lion Downe was the perfect place for our annual sisters getaway trip. The cottage is absolutely charming; the view of Lake Pepin/Mississippi River is wonderful. Rob and Heather have thought of everything and we appreciated the personal touches and warm welcome. Loved to watch the deer in the yard and eagles overhead. And the hot tub on the deck was so relaxing at the end of the day! A trip to the National Eagle Center in Wabasha is recommended! We hope to return to Lion Downe next year!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Heavy snow from the recent freak May snowstorm that downed trees and resulted in widespread power outages including the Maiden Rock area… also knocked out power to Lion Downe the day prior to our expected arrival. The owners notified us immediately when they heard the news and kept us posted. The morning of our arrival day, they called with the good news that power had been restored. :-) By the time we arrived for check-in just a few hours later, the driveway had been plowed, the walkway cleared and the cottage was warm and ready for our arrival as if nothing had happened! And in spite of the odds against something like that ever happening again, the owners immediately went out and purchased a full home automatic propane generator for the cottage so the situation could never be repeated….amazing!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Lion Downe Cottage was an amazing place to celebrate a birthday with my closest friends. The cabin is clean, comfortable and absolutely beautiful. Even during a dreary March weekend, we were blown away by the beauty of the surroundings. Rob and Heather were awesome to work with. They provided me with all the information I needed in order to have a great stay. They have thought of everything you could need and make sure the cabin is well stocked. I can't express how perfect our weekend at Lion Downe was and I HIGHLY recommend a stay!Owner response: Thank you so much for your kind words, review and most importantly Happy Birthday!! We do strive to make sure everything is perfect for each guest and continue to improve and upgrade Lion Downe while maintaining her charm.

Our group of 10 spent a couple wonderful nights together at this beautiful cottage. The views are spectacular and the cottage is warm and welcoming. We went snow shoeing, hot tubbing, and walking on the property. All accommodations were excellent. Even though we don't live that far away, it felt like we were a million miles away. Thank you for a great getaway!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you! We feel the same way about Lion Downe Cottage; all of life's cares and troubles seem to melt away as soon as we hit the driveway to our secluded peaceful retreat.

This home is beautiful! The beds were amazing... most everyone that stayed there wanted to take their bed home with them. The view was beautiful. So nice to be so close to Red Wing too. The hot tub was one of my highlights... to sit out there when it was snowing out was really a good time. It was a little scary of a drive up to the house but so worth it once you were there. Hoping to plan another getaway there this summer :)Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

From the drive up, we knew we were in for a wonderful weekend. The fireplace, cubbyhole beds, views, well appointed kitchen, north woods decor. It was so relaxing that I thought I had been away for a week instead of one night. I'll be back.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Dear Beth, We couldn't agree more, we feel completely refreshed and rejuvenated after even a short weekend at Lion Downe. Thank you so much for the kind review, we look forward to hosting you again soon!

A Big Thank You to Rob & Heather for this amazing home. The weather was spectacular and the view is heavenly. Our only regret was that we did not stay longer. This home was perfect for our girls weekend as the 8 of us found plenty of space for sleeping and the gourmet kitchen had everything we needed to make amazing meals. Everything we needed was here. The near by towns were wonderful to explore and if you have the chance pop over to Vino in the Valley...it's worth the trip. Thank you for a wonderful weekend!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: A Big Thank You to You for writing this wonderful review and appreciating Lion Downe as much as we do! We just added a new large 12 person table to accommodate even larger groups to make dining even more comfortable for your next visit!
