When we first witnessed the mountain views at “Graybuck Lodge” we knew we had found something truly special. Now that our house renovations are complete, we are ready to share the warmth of our home and the majesty of our mountains with you.
“Graybuck Lodge" is centrally located in Bat Cave less than ten minutes from Chimney Rock Village and the recreational beach at Lake Lure and it is just slightly farther to Hendersonville, Black Mountain and Asheville. The rest of the western North Carolina vacation wonderland is an easy day trip away.
At more than 3,000 feet in elevation, “Graybuck Lodge” sits on the exposed granite of Shumont Mountain on the western rim of the gorge formed by tributaries of the Broad River. The 280-degree mountain views extend for over fifty miles from Hendersonville at one end to Mount Mitchell on the other. During the fall, the expanse of mountain colors is phenomenal and the higher elevation means the summers are cool and clear with crisp mornings even in August.
The house itself is a lovely three story rustic cedar Chalet which sits on a secure granite foundation. You enter the house into a warm pine accented Great Room and a full “tongue and grove” pine cathedral ceiling will greet you as you snuggle up in front of the stone fireplace. The big screen TV, sound system and DVD player will keep you entertained on the rare days you might want to stay inside.
Across from the great room you will find the dining area. Two tables seat up to twelve people without crowding anyone. You will find wineglasses and essentials in the antique bar in the corner of the room.
The full kitchen is adjacent to the dining area. You will find it complete with microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator and a combination gas and electric range with double ovens. It even has a separate beverage refrigerator and a huge pantry.
The main floor master bedroom provides a king-sized bed and walk-in closet that give you plenty of room to spread out and the completely refurbished bathroom will give you the privacy you desire.
Downstairs you will find the second master bedroom with king-sized bed and a 180-degree view of the mountains. You access the recreation area through the master bedroom. Here you will find a second big screen TV and stone fireplace. The recreation area also contains high-end game table.
The second downstairs bedroom is the most secluded and quietest room in the house and should probably be reserved for the “sleeper” in your group. This room contains a queen-sized bed and also has a vanity that the ladies can use before a night out at the local restaurants.
The downstairs shares the largest bathroom in the house. The washer and dryer and a laundry folding station are built into this bathroom and help you keep the clutter of soiled clothing away from the more traveled areas of the home.
Upstairs over the great room is the “Sweetheart’s Loft”. Its lucky occupants will find it is paneled in warm pine and secluded from the rest of the house with a queen-sized bed and its own private bath. They won’t feel closed in because the glass window-wall opens the room to the mountain views without exposing its occupants to the rest of the vacationers. Fully isolated from the lower house with a glass window-wall, the loft will allow those couples who desire some “privacy” a personal spot to which they can retire and be assured that they will not be disturbed.
The front deck is where you and your companions will enjoy your early morning coffee and your late night glass of wine. From the deck you have an unobstructed 280-degree view of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Your vantage point is located in the treetops about a 1,000 feet over the floor of the gorge. To the left, you look 25 miles to see Hendersonville on the horizon and to the right, at about the same distance, you see Clingman’s Dome and Mt. Mitchell. As you sit and enjoy the atmosphere, the goldfinches and hummingbirds will visit the feeders and entertain you all day.
THIS IS WHY YOU CAME TO THE MOUNTAINS!
We are proud of our home and the relaxing atmosphere you will find when you visit western North Carolina. and we have chosen to use our entire photo allowance to show you as many pictures of “Graybuck Lodge” as possible. Unfortunately that means that we have chosen not to show you any pictures of the many local attractions. When you arrive at Graybuck Lodge our Personal Representative will meet you and show you everything you need to know to enjoy the house and all of its amenities.
The communities that surround us are truly beautiful and pictures of sites in Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, Black Mountain, Hendersonville, Asheville and the mountain villages are available from many sources on-line as well as from our personal links.
We hope you come to visit us for a relaxing vacation at Graybuck Lodge and while you are here you will take time to review all of the fun in western North Carolina.

Tom and Wendy were very helpful answering questions prior to our arrival and Tammy was so welcoming upon our arrival. We loved Graybuck Lodge from the moment we walked in! The floor to ceiling windows in the main level make you feel like you are in a tree house yet the views are amazing. We could watch the leaves change colors from day to day. Be sure to fill up the bird feeders (seed is provided) to take full advantage of the bird watching. We even had a black bear visit one night - what excitement! One of our family members is in a wheelchair and we had no issues getting her in and out of the house. The bedroom and bathroom on the main level was wheelchair accessible. And the recliners were appreciated by our more senior family members. :-) Having two living areas is convenient. What a great house and a wonderful, relaxing vacation! We were talking about visiting again in the spring as we were driving home!

Our family of four just returned from a week at Graybuck Lodge, and everything was absolutely fantastic. Large place with plenty of room for all of us. Secluded in the woods, but with with a lot of unexpected comforts provided (charcoal grill, first aid supplies, coffee pot, laundry detergent, etc.). Breathtaking views in all directions, combined with a wonderful breeze and silence. We were a little nervous at first about being isolated and having to keep two teenage boys active, but there was plenty to do within a one hour drive in any direction. Some nice hiking right on the premises too, and during the week we saw wild turkey, raccoons, rabbits, and even a beaver. Owner was accommodating to work with from start to finish -- answered e-mails promptly, and deposit check was returned immediately. Thanks for sharing your place!

We loved everything about the house and the owner was great to work with. There is plenty of room and we had a bed and bathroom for everyone in our party. The fire pit on the porch and the AMAZING views were an added bonus as we celebrated the new year. Everyone enjoyed their stay and we will be back to "the house in the clouds"!

My family gathered at Graybuck lodge recently and had a wonderful time! The home is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean! We highly recommend white water rafting and zip lining as "must do" activities while you are there. We had a great time even though my sons were disappointed that we did not see the bear that another visiter saw while they were there!! The owners were very accomadating and the woman who met us to show us around was a sweetheart!!! We highly recommemd this home!!!
Owner response:Thank You, We so appreciate your writting a review. I know it is an added burden, but it helps with future rentals. Since you have been so kind to help us we would like to return the favor. If you would like to rent Graybuck ever in the future we will give you 15 % off. Now, you might have to remind us as our memory is not what is once was. Thank you again. Tom and Wendy

Our family visit over Thanksgiving was wonderful. The house is beautiful and very clean! Everything we needed and more. The view was breath taking. We saw two flying squirrels in the bird feeder. The path near the house provided a wonderful walk. We love this area!!!! We would definitely recommend his home!!!

We had the pleasure of staying at Graybuck Lodge just in time to see the beautiful fall colors. The views from this cabin are truly breathtaking, pictures don't do it justice, you must see it in person. Everything we needed was available for our use and the cabin has the perfect layout for larger groups, we had such a wonderful time (and our Pugs loved it too!!)

Our family enjoyed a wonderful reunion at Graybuck Lodge early Aug 2009. A truly restful, beautiful and well-appointed home. The view is spectacular! Even had a visit from a bear on the deck one night (he was checking out the birdfeeders and trashcans). We hope to return again soon!!

I just spent a wonderful girls weekend at Graybuck. The view was great. The bedrooms were roomy and private. The entire place was spotless. It would be a great place for couples to go for a weekend get-a-way because of the large gathering places and the private bedrooms and many bathrooms.

I had the pleasure of staying at Graybuck Lodge with my family recently. In short...IT ROCKS! If you want a house that offers privacy, lots of space and astounding mountain views, this is the place. The house is comfortable and at the same time casually elegant. We practically lived on the deck and the game room kept the kids occupied all week. We'll definitely stay here again. Thank you for a great vacation!!
