Why Melissa Scott chose Hendersonville
What?? I only have 2000 words to encapsulate why THIS property is so amazing? My son and I relocated to this area several years ago when I took a local teaching position. I started looking at local homes with the intent of buying a home in downtown Asheville and capitalizing on the seemingly endless exciting opportunities it offered. But then... I fell madly in LOVE. With THIS HOME!!! When I first saw this place, I was blown away. I couldn't BELIEVE I was lucky enough to find this breathtaking mountain cottage perched on the side of the mountain, surrounded by water, AND in such close proximity to Asheville, Hendersonville, Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. Let me backtrack and tell you JUST how enchanting this location was; I was willing to put in a full asking price offer within hours of seeing the home, and it was in SHAMBLES! It was a dilapidated shell at that point. No plumbing, electrical, flooring. No kitchen. Nothing. But it was IN THIS MAGICAL SPOT! We were surrounded by trees, birds, wildflowers, a trickling waterfall, and a rushing river. It felt like no place I had ever visited. I knew that I had so much love in my heart for this place that I could make it into a dream home. It would be worth the tremendous amount of hard work and suffering that lied ahead. So...we moved in. We put mattresses on the floor and camped out indoors while we worked. Our bathroom was the woods. Our shower was the river. We went to bed when it was dark because we had no electricity. This was our life for several months, but we didn't even care! We loved this setting so much it was worth it. Over the next 5 years, with much love and attention to detail, we made this place into the beautiful place you now see. We hope you will enjoy the magic of this place as much as we have, while we now spend some time in our city condo. We are so happy to share our home with you! What makes this Cabin unique
In a nutshell, it's the ABUNDANCE of things to do within a few miles (hike, bike, fish, canoe, shop etc), combined with a luxurious retreat while at the house relaxing and enjoying the water features. Several miles down the road towards Asheville on Hwy 74 (let me point out that this gorgeous section of road is a NC Scenic Bypass), lies Hickory Nut Gap Farms. You can get local grass fed beef & seasonal vegetables. They also have a barn play area for kids and a horse farm if you enjoy riding. Go several miles further and you are in Fairview, where you can visit a local creamery if you love fresh cheese, or a country Amish store. A few miles further puts you in Asheville... Where there is more to do than you will ever have time to do! We have lived here 5 years now, and are still exploring new restaurants and activities. If you had traveled a few miles in the opposite direction on Hwy 74, there is Chimney Rock. The park is amazing and offers some of the best views of the area, as well as Medina's Bistro, our local favorite. Their biscuits and gravy, and AMAZING homemade cinnamon rolls, are amazing! A mile further and you are in Lake Lure, with a waterpark and beach, also offering boat rentals. Or cut across on Hwy 64 (only a few miles back) and you will head into Hendersonville, another great little town. This is truly the ideal location! Do you like hiking? You wouldn't believe how many hiking trails there are in this area, including the many off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Have you heard of DuPont State Forest and its amazing waterfalls, as seen in the Hunger Games? Sliding Rock? Look it up! And PLEASE look up Asheville, Lake Lure, Hendersonville, Black Mountain, Brevard, etc. before visiting. There are so many things to do! The surrounding areas are ALL wonderful! We have flyers regarding local attractions on the table when you arrive at the house, along with a notebook with details regarding personal favorites of my son and I, based upon 5 wonderful years here.
