Why the Owner Chose Sayulita
Well, we really didn't buy...we built. It seemed more rewarding to us to design, build, change and evolve our way into something uniquely ours. What you'll see here is a blend of what we wanted and what we learned how to do all folded into and around one of the nicest little villages either of us has ever been to. It's privacy, location and amenities are uniquely appealing...whether it's surfing, fishing, snorkeling sampling some FIRST CLASS dining, collapsing at the side of the pool with a cerveza or curling up with a book, it can all be done and enjoyed from here. I've never been to a place I like being more. That's why!
The Unique Benefits at this House
We're about a 7-10 minute walk to the town square...close enough for easy access, far enough away for privacy. Our property is self-sufficient, laundry, grounds and house staff, garden areas, pool, 3 palapas to relax under, satellite TV and internet. If you want it, it's either there or close by! Maybe the neatest, and most under-used asset is a hidden beach you can't get to from the main town/beach area, Carrecitos...guaranteed quiet.
This is our house on Dec 22/08. We usually go to town by walking up the hill on the road perpendicular to the main road below the house and down a funky set of stairs. Or you can cross the side of the
You haven't been to Sayulita if you haven't had breakfast here. Say 'hi' to Rollie and Jeannie for us!
My favourite place to eat at night and the Camarone Bruschettas are posilutely, absotively killer!!
A much quieter beach that is beside the local cemetery. Nice place to boogie board
My friend runs a very small store here but it sure is close when the beer runs low!
Great place for a cerveza and munchies while sitting in the shade watching the surfers and waves roll in.
Owner's Map of Sayulita
Our family first heard about Sayulita from our (then) 19 year old son who'd spent several months in 1996 surfing with a bunch of his high school buddies. He regaled us with tales of Paradise, of friendly people, unspoiled charm, and SURFING! I somewhat reluctantly headed off with his Mom and 2 younger siblings to 'no-one knew' that next Christmas and was smitten inside of 3 hours.
Over the next 1/2 dozen or so years and at least 10 visits we became ever more convinced that this really was a place we could retire to and call home, have our grand-kids visit and build fond memories of. Finally we bought first one, then another, piece of property and began to formulate plans for the construction of (what?)and with whom? Ideas came and went, changed and changed again, When we thought we had it right and were ready to start, we found out we were really beginning another stage in the evolution of what we now have...and we see more change yet. Such are the ways of dreams!
What we never changed was our focus on quality and our belief that built well is built best. We are so very proud of what have, owe so much to those who did our work and added to our dream. We always enjoy hearing from our past guests and how much they enjoyed their stay. We welcome you to stay with us and see what a part of our dream looks and feels like.
Pura Vida,
Doug and Sheran

We have now stayed at this casita twice...clearly we love it! Doug and Sheran are wonderful and helpful, and the house is beautiful, well maintained, and very tranquil. It is a short walk from the town center and beach, and is an excellent location. Sayulita is an incredible place to visit, and we highly recommend staying here!
Owner response:It's really cool to hear from people who get what we did! This is our DREAM realized! Like most dreams people have, we pushed ours right out there, and then, somehow, we got it. That you validate it...

We stayed in the casa at Casita Amarilla and absolutely loved it. The house is relatively new and the construction is top notch with a well thought out floor plan, gorgeous lush landscaping, throughout the property, beautiful showers with natural rocks and a large open kitchen. The house came incredibly well equipped with an in-unit washer & dryer, a fully equipped kitchen (blender, coffee maker, bottled water), stereo system that you can plug your ipod or phone into, towels, umbrella for the beach, books, satellite tv, A/C, boogie boards, and a rooftop palapa complete with a hammock, BBQ, sink, refrigerator and couches. If you have an infant or toddler the house is great as it's separated from the 2 apartments so you don't have to worry about waking up the neighbors whenever the baby starts crying. Doug & Sheran even loaned us their pack n'play crib which was a lifesaver! We BBQ'd on the palapa and would often have our breakfasts there as well. The rooftop palapa area was quite large so it was great for letting our son run around and burn off some steam. The Casa is about a quick 7-10 minute walk to the town square and maybe another 5 min max to the beach. It's far enough from the town center to be relatively quiet. There are some roosters somewhere in the neighborhood, but they never woke me up or bothered me. We were sad to leave but plan to return quickly.
Owner response:Thanks for the great review. Our intention when we built our Mexican "Get Away" was to give our guests the comforts of home while enjoying the charm of Mexico. We feel very fortunate to have had a fabulous local builder build Casita Amarilla who now manages the property for us...so the maintenance is always kept up ensuring your comfort in your away from home.

I spent 4 nights at Casita Amarilla and I can't wait to go back! Everything was wonderful. The cleaning staff kept everything immaculate, the bed was comfortable, the property is even nicer and larger than it appears in the pictures. It was just a short cab ride to Sayulita from PV, we were swimming in the pool at the Casita an hour after our plane landed. The design of the place is well thought out, a nice combination of natural light and privacy.....and the rooftop wet bar with a fridge is just amazing. To top it off Doug and Sheran were great hosts, they pointed us in the right direction to have the trip of a lifetime in Mexico. We'll be back!
Owner response:We're really happy you liked our casita! Sayulita is a great place to have a great time...'til the next time!

We really enjoyed our stay at the lovely casita Amarilla. The garden and pool area were especially relaxing. Having traveled quite a bit with many VRBO stays, we really appreciate how clean, well-kept and stocked the casita was. The bed was especially comfortable and we appreciated the quality linen and towels. We had everything we needed to cook at home and do laundry. Although we enjoyed a romantic stay having the place all to ourselves as a couple, we thought this would also be an excellent property and location for a family or group of friends and we hope we will have an opportunity to stay here again. Both Doug the owner, and Rene the property manager were very friendly and prompt with communication. Thank you for your kind welcome to your home!
Owner response:I'm glad you liked your stay. Being in Sayulita alone is enough to make me happy, nice amenities do make it better ;-)

A few weeks ago we returned from a great stay in the beautiful Casa Amarilla in Sayulita. Both the house and surrounding gardens are immaculately kept, and are in a very peaceful setting. I was impressed by how green and lush everything was ................ the gardeners were really doing their job, and the unexpected tropical storms provided lots of moisture! Fortunately, the rain came at night and the days were mostly sunny! The temperature was hot and the humidity was high so we really appreciated the palapa by the pool. It was perfect for relaxing, reading, and watching the butterflies and hummingbirds. We spent a lot of time in the awesome pool! The rooftop deck, complete with hammocks and comfy chairs, provided a cool evening retreat. The beaches, restaurants, and markets are all within walking distance. We really liked the dinners we had at the Calypso, Sayulita Cafe, and the beachfront restaurants. The owner's suggestions were all great, and he was very helpful in answering any questions we had. I would definitely recommend this holiday rental!
Owner response:We're always pleased when people like our casita. Thank you!

We stayed a week at Casita Amarilla. A tip to the wise: if you can stay when the hosts, Doug & Sheran, are there you'll get delicious margaritas by the pool every afternoon and polite affection from their cute pooches -- Eddy and Casey. We've been to Sayulita before and appreciated the casita's proximity to town and the beach (less than a 5 minute walk) but quieter location on the east side of the hill. The pool, courtyard gardens and casita were lovely, and we really enjoyed the roof top deck with a view of the sunrise over the valley. The custom built casita features every possible amenity you could need, including fridges by the pool and the rooftop deck. We can't wait to come back. Make sure to drop Sheran and Doug's names at local restaurants... everyone seems to know and love them.
Owner response:When you come back, we'd love to see you too! Thanks.
