Relax and enjoy the delights of western North Carolina in this 1,200 square-foot cottage on a deep-water cove of Lake Hickory. Enjoy swimming, fishing, jet-skiing, and boating from the dock, or just watching the blue heron, geese, and ducks from the sunroom or patios. Relax as the sun reflects off the water. Visit the sights of western and Piedmont North Carolina.

Winston-Salem, Charlotte, Asheville, and the mountains are all within an easy drive. Enjoy shopping for furniture at the Hickory Furniture Mart or along US 321, gem mining in Hiddenite, races at the tracks in Hickory, Charlotte or No Wilksboro, or golf at local courses.

The spacious great room and sunroom (each 30 feet long), in addition to the half-acre site, make this a wonderful place for a one- or two-week vacation with the family -- or a longer-term exploration of retirement possibilities. This quiet country location is just seven miles from Taylorsville, and 12 miles from Hickory.

Retirees and soon to be retired -- this is a great location to check out possible retirement homes in western and northwestern North Carolina: Hickory, Asheville, Hendersonville, Boone, Charlotte, Winston-Salem and Greensboro areas are all close enough to scout out and still come 'home' each night. For extended stays in the off-season, call for special rates.

We found this little gem after being rained out camping. It turned out to be a wonderful, if unplanned, part of our vacation. The view of the lake from the sun room, with autumn colors all around us and wind blowing through open windows was just captivating, and we spent most our stay just looking at the scene and reading. It was an easy transition from sleeping in a tent! The lake is lovely and we enjoyed walking down to the dock to see the ducks. The house is totally outfitted with everything you might have forgotten to bring and is extremely clean and cared for. A most enjoyable stay! Thank you, Marcia.

While looking for a temporary residence during a long distance relocation we were fortunate to find this wonderful cottage. We had agreed with the owner that a 2 month stay would be needed. Well, 2 months morphed into 8. Marcia, went way above & beyond accommodating our needs. The residence is equipped with everything one could need and is well maintained & very clean. She has thought out everything ahead of time. The couple of times we asked for assistance with a few maintenance items Marcia was remarkably quick to respond. The location is very quiet and the lake is so serene. We enjoyed our stay immeasurably and can't recommend this location enough if quiet waterfront is what your looking for. In retrospect I don't think the pictures do this location justice. Come see for yourself ... you will not be disappointed!! Thank you Marcia!!!

The inside of the house is well maintained and very clean. I found enough room to park my truck and boat by backing it down the drive. The location is great and the Cross Roads Grill up the road was a perfect stop for breakfast or dinner before and after a day on the lake. The outside porches and walkways could use some repair but for the price this place is a perfect weekend get away. Marcia was very helpful and made the entire process very easy.

The property owner was accommodating and gave us many details about the house and surrounding area when we made our last minute request. The house was clean and the immediate area peaceful and quiet...everything we needed. We were very pleased and would not hesitate to book in the future.

What a wonderful long (and much needed) weekend. We enjoyed your cottage! Everything was perfect as described on vrbo.com. We absolutely loved the collage - inside & out! We thank you so very much for allowing us to share not only a very inviting home but also a fascinating area.

We have stayed in VRBO properties all over the world, and this is our new favorite! It was beautiful and charming, clean and well-appointed, comfortable and homey. We would definitely recommend this property to friends. This was a GREAT location on the lake! Easy to find but yet very quiet and private location on a beautiful wooded lot.

We stayed at this property for a week, we being my wife and I along with our teenage daughter and her friend. We all found the cottage to be very comfortable and immediately felt at home. Everything we needed was there, including the excellent DSL service. The view of the lake, even in the off season and especially in the mornings at sunrise was very pleasing and serene. Though we are already quite familiar with the area, the information Marcia provides is very useful. We especially enjoy the fact that her property is on a cul de sac, resulting in very little traffic. We hope to return during the warmer months so that we can partake of the lake itself. If you are a person who appreciates a no frills, comfortable and economical place to stay, with the added benefit of a central location and being surrounded by the natural beauty of the lake and foothills and the distant mountains, then you will not be disappointed. We were very happy that Marcia gave us the opportunity to stay.

My husband, three boys and I went mining each day came back to the house and jumped into the lake to remove all the wonderful NC clay. We brought our kayaks and enjoyed the wildlife during the afternoon. My huabands favorite spot was sitting in the sunroom with the blinds opened to view the lake (while on his laptop) after dinner. We found the binder full of information so helpful. Such as were to shop , eat, site see. The directions made everything so much less stressful. This home is impecably clean and organized. The yard is beautifully landscaped with flowers. What more could you ask for.

We chose this Lake Hickory cottage for our honeymoon due to it's private and lovely location on the lake. We were not disappointed. It was far prettier than the pictures and being built into the side of the hill above the lake, has a charming design. If you don't mind driving a bit, there are quite a few interesting places to visit nearby as well. We would recommend it to anyone wanting a beautiful, quiet getaway,

                  Year Purchased: 1988

About the owner: I love the serenity of the lake, and hope you love my home as much as I do.

                  Why the Owner Chose Taylorsville:
I moved to NC from Los Angeles, and the cost of my half acre on the lake was a fraction of the price of the home I left in LA. I worked in Hickory, then in Boone, and when my work took me further away, I decided to keep this house. This is my home away from home, and hopefully will be my retirement home.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
I love western NC, and my home has one of the best locations on Lake Hickory -- right on the water, few houses in view, little boat traffic, and lots of peace, sunshine and quiet. It is a wonderful place for a relaxing break from the daily grind and pressures of work. During the summer, it's a great place to sun and swim; and year round there's good fishing in the lake.
