    • The Keeweenaw Peninsula is unique in dozens of ways that will tempt you back again and again; spectacular lakefront drives that prove this is the "Superior Coast," wildlife as in "Eagle Harbor," wildflowers and berries that only grow here, lighthouses, boating and boat tours including to Isle Royal, matchless biking, hiking and all-year-round activities on Keeweenaw Point. But two things go with you wherever you go; the mining history of the entire peninsula greeting you in old copper sites, the mining museum at Calumet and the mine itself at Quincy; but most of all the lake in all its forms, the reflections, the diving loon, the storms and the calm, the largest expanse of fresh water on earth and, surely one of the 7 wonders of the modern world ... you can walk into it with a cup and take a drink. Come, enjoy and remember.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2004

We live in Madison, Wisconsin. My wife is a dance instructor at the university and I operate a used and rare book store which this year celebrates its 75th anniversary. In addition, and primarily, we own and manage commercial and residential rental properties, and have done so for nearly 20 years.

Why the Owner Chose Eagle Harbor

Some years ago, we began looking for a getaway from Madison. We spent a lot of time in Florida and ranged up the East Coast into New England. Eventually, we decided to come back to where we had first come nearly 40 years before, to this largely un-peopled and unspoiled place. We have become happy "Yoopers" -- you can too.

The Unique Benefits of this House

There are three unique benefits to staying here ... Lake Superior, Lake Superior, and, yes, Lake Superior. Lake Superior is the book; everything else commentary. You will have your own experiences. For us, it is being inside the house when the lake seems to come right inside with all of its kaleidoscopic moods and views. It is calming, yet powerful and memorable.

Wonderful vacation home

We had a wonderful week at the Cat Harbor House. The property was clean and neat. The kitchen has enough basic equipment to prepare simple meals, which I did every day. All we had to provide was food (use Pat's IGA in Calumet - it's the closest sizeable grocery store, about a 30 minute drive). The house is wonderfully secluded and private, which is what we wanted for our vacation. The views of Lake Superior are outstanding. We saw freighters go by every day - and night. We took binoculars with us as well as cameras and spent many an hour staring out at the water from the deck. A sand beach is only 2 miles away for long walks and swimming; there is also a rocky beach about a half mile walk from the property. Lots of opportunities to enjoy walking and watching the water. The only downside for us personally were the mattresses. We did not find them comfortable, but then, both of us are picky about that. This would not, however, stop us from renting the house again - we'll just plan to bring our air mattresses from home.

A piece of heaven!

This has been a beautiful vacation stay in a wonderful house! We are more than pleased with our stay. The house was spotless when we arrived and almost everything we could think of was supplied. The home owner is more than generous and it is obvious that they take extra time to be thoughtful to the renter's needs. The setting of the house is beautiful. Stunning sunsets are viewed every evening outside the picture window and many a freighter can be seen sailing by in the distance. I have two children, ages 6 and 13, and both were very happy and occupied at the house, being able to throw rocks into the water and climb to their heart's content. We look forward to our stay next year!

My wife and I found the Cat Harbor House on the internet and we could not have been happier with our choice. The place was immaculate and less than 50 feet from Lake Superior! It was quiet, beautiful and one of the best vacation spots we have ever seen. Thank you so much for the week of peace and serenity that you provided with your place. We loved Eagle Harbor and Copper Harbor as well, and we got to eat a Pasty!

Beautiful Retreat

We rented the house for a week in June, and it was lovely. The house really is RIGHT ON Lake Superior. When you look out the living room window, you can't even see land--the stunning view is all water. The house is well appointed; we had everything we needed. The location is perfect. It's a beautiful drive to Copper Harbor, Brockway Mountain and the Estivant Pines, or just a quick jaunt in the other direction to Calumet and McLain State Park. Eagle River and Eagle Harbor are both just minutes away.

Hi Harold, Just wanted to drop you a line and tell you what a wonderful vacation we had in your home! You were right all you need is a toothbrush! When we first arrived I said this must be the wrong address? I could not believe the beauty, it brought tears to my eyes. In the pictures it looks really nice, but seeing it with your own eyes it was so much more than I had imagined. All the conviences of home in the middle of outdoor paradise, needless to say none of us wanted to leave. We have been spreading the word and raving about your place to a lot of people! A lot of people at the wedding that were out of towners wished they had found a place like we had. The highlight of the trip for me was getting one of your tubes out of the garage walking down the boat landing and walking in the water and floating in the tube looking down thru the water and looking at all the beautiful rocks below. I LOVE to swim and could not believe how warm the water was. I am more under the water than on top! I swam out to the first island, it is so peaceful out there, one day a bald eagle was flying over head, it was breathtaking. I hope we left your home as beautiful as it was when we arrived, and hope we have invitations to come back, because we surely want too. Thank you for opening your house to our families, because this was the "Perfect Vacation"! The wedding was beautiful too!!! So many pictures, and so many memories. Sincerely, Sandy

What a great place. The views are amazing. The house was trouble free, it had everything you would have in your own house. Great proximity for all of the sites in the area. The whole experience was better than could be expected. We are looking forward to returning.

We love Michigan's U.P. and have been making yearly visits for 18 years. Our visit to Cat Harbor house was a special treat! It's located on one of the most beautiful Coastal drives in the entire country. The Lake Superior shoreline is stunning, very accessible and never crowded. The home is perched right on the water, surrounded by native plants & totally private. Every convenience is provided for, from laundry to games & craft supplies for a rainy afternoon. History and outdoor adventure abound.

This place was a true paradise for my wife and I for a week at the end of July. The house could not be more beautifully situated and it is wonderfully comfortable. Everything in the house is in great shape. There are fantastic nearby trails for hiking but we ended up spending alot of time just lounging around the house and watching the everchanging lake. The owners are exceptionally considerate as well as friendly.
