Vermont's 1828 Reunion House is a 3200 sq. foot, 8 bedroom, 4 bath home that is perfect for large family reunions or friends seeking a relaxed and comfortable gathering location. Built in 1828, there are two major sections to the house, the farmhouse and the lodge. The farmhouse offers a living room, huge dining room, well-equipped kitchen, 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths. The Lodge portion of the house, a converted barn, offers a great room with a large fireplace and second kitchen, 5 bedrooms and 2 baths. The sections are joined at the kitchen of the house and the great room of the lodge. This grand, cozy and unique home is perfect for winter sports enthusiasts as it is close to Okemo Mountain (6 miles). Spring, summer and fall enjoy the 10 acre property with pasture, forest and pond and the adjacent North Williams River for rock hopping and swimming hole delight. Visit the Reunion House - where memories are made! Please visit our web site - vermont1828house for extensive pictures.

Setting: The house sits on 10 acres, surrounded by approximately 1 acre of mowed lawn (weekly). There is an additional 3-4 acres of meadow. Beyond the meadow is woods with a road to the upper meadow which contains a small pond - not suitable for swimming but a great destination for hiking. The southern border of the property is Smokeshire Rd., a dirt, county-maintained road which meanders along the Williams River. This is excellent for hiking as there are several bridges on Smokeshire that cross the Williams River. The Williams River is excellent for swimming in the Summer. We have cut a tobaggan path 'Reunion Way' through our woods beyond the meadow which is perfect for sleigh riding in winter apre ski..

Weddings and Civil Unions: The Reunion House is proud to have hosted several weddings and civil unions. We think it's the perfect place for an intimate wedding in the splendor of the Green Mountains. There are several neighbors on Smokeshire Rd that also rent their homes so if your wedding party is big there are other homes available within walking distance - call for details. If there are to be more guests than the Reunion House's capacity we simply ask that your rent port-a-potties to spare our septic system. There is plenty of ground for event tents and activities. The Reunion House is also an excellent base for those attending wedding in the area - rent the house for the wedding party, and 'memories will surely be made'.

The House: The 1828 Farmhouse is complimented by the Lodge (an old post and beam structure attached to the house) to create an 8 bedroom 4 bath magnificent home in which to come together. The house and the Lodge are a legal duplex but we only rent the 1828 Reunion House as one unit - an 8 bedroom, 4 bath, 2 living room, tow kitchen 3200 square foot house. Visit our web site for more information.

Great place so close to Okemo! We had 23 in our group and it never seemed we were on top of each other. They had everything we needed to live comfortably. Thank you!

Dear Potential Renters - comments below were receivied via e-mail by the owners and are posted by the owners not directly through this web page. Matthew, A good time was had by all. Overall, everyone enjoyed their 1828 experience. The greatest downside was that my wife left some clothing in the downstairs bedroom closet. So, upon returning home I had to jump back in my car and drive back to Chester (about 2 hours one way)! Ugh. The good side of the return trip was that I was able to meet the next renters. Nice people! Again, we enjoyed out stay and hope to visit in the near future. Take care. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact me. H. Durfee, Essex Junction, Vermont Matthew, Sorry it has taken me so long to reply about our stay. I still have lingering house guests so there has been little time. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Reunion House and, believe me we used every inch of it. I hope you found it in satisfactory shape. My sister has mailed back the key so I will expect my $250 security deposit to be returned now. The river was a real plus, especially when it got so hot and the kids loved the little play house. Good luck to you in future rentals. Liz

Dear prospective Renters - the owners added these comments that were received from previous renters via e-mail. Matthew Hi Matthew, I just wanted to let you know that we had a fabulous time this weekend. In fact, we would like to make reservations for next year. We are interested in October 8th, 9th, and 10th. Can you please let me know if that weekend is available? Thanks so much. Best Regards, Jenn K. (Massachusetts) P.S. Dining room is lovely! good morning guys- what an absolutely fantastic week we had in vermont and it was due in no small part to the wonderful 1828 reunion house. the place was just perfect for us and we thank you for your hospitality. we sure enjoyed meeting elroy la duc (the groundskeeper) though......what a character. my friends has a few questions about the house that for the life of me i cannot remember now so i may email again. i know i was curious as to where you got the light fixture over the dining room table. i love it and i have a similar table here at home so i would like to know where it came from. christian, would you like the key mailed back to your new york or new jersey address? i'll get it out as soon as you let me know. thanks again for sharing your home with us. we are already making plans for next time!! peace, p.seeburger Hi Matt, Just got back from the house this morning - it was a great week. The whole family had a very good time - even managed to take home some pastries and $7 from the bingo hall - though we may have accidentally started a rumor that the basement of the house is among the top 10 haunted places in Vermont! Thanks again - we had a great time. Mike Matthew, For the past 30 years our three families have vacationed together. Over the years as our families have grown, our gatherings have also grown to include the addition of family friends and various significant others. With a growing clan that now totals 18, the1828 Reunion House has become the perfect answer to our needs. What a joy to find a place that can appeal to our love of history while offering a wide array of up to date amenities. You couldn't ask for a better location. The nearby town of Ludlow is only 5 minutes away and offers shopping and great restaurants. The Reunion House is also perfectly situated near Okemo Mountain for skiing and snowboarding fun. Outlet shopping can be found in nearby Manchester, and the state of Vermont has always been our favorite place to visit.

Dear Prospective Renter, the owners added the following comments based on e-mails received from previous renters - Matthew Hello,We would like to thank you very very much for renting us the house for the weekend. We had such a great time and found the house to be perfect for our pre-Thanksgiving feast. We would like to rent the house again next year. Is the weekend of Columbus Day open (Oct. 6, 7, and 8)?Thanks again,Kim and BrettJust emailing you guys to let you know that your house was perfect! Everything was excellent and I'm trying to get a group together to rent it for some skiing next winter. Very well set up for big groups and the land was beautiful. Only thing I wish was different was the weather but we still had a great time, played waffle ball in the rain and really enjoyed the outdoors. And that stove…man I want a stove like that in my house, we cooked 6 lb’s of pasta and sauce at once and for breakfast made 36 scrambled eggs at once. Perfect!! Thank you guys so much and I hope you will let us rent from you again! I'm going to try and send the key out tomorrow. Just letting you know, we made some distance calls from the phone because nobody had any cell phone reception but we got a calling card later on so make sure you check the phone bill and deduct that from the deposit. Other than that everything is in perfect order. Again, thank you very much.W. SaccoHi Matthew-We had a wonderful weekend at the house- It was just perfect for my family. The kids- big and small, sledded on the hill. We snowshoed and x-country skied around the property. Two families went to Pico for a day of reduced price skiing[ they had coupons!] All were in agreement that we should do it again next year. I will contact you when that is set in stone! Thanks,Pat Chris, I'm finally back from my vacation and wanted to thank you and your brother for renting the house to us. we had a wonderful time the house has great charm and I'm happy to report,... no spooky spirits! The house was spacious and my family was very happy with the accommodations. I believe we left everything to your liking? I will mail you the key this week. I was so pleased I told a friend of mine about the place as she is looking for something similar. I told her to use my name as a reference ,... not that I think it makes a difference but it helps to know a little about the people you rent to. They are good people. My fami

The 1828 Reunion House is situated in a great area. Beautiful nature and wonderful smaller and bigger towns within 10 - 20 minutes of driving. Next to the house runs a small river through a wooded area. A very nice stroll for early in the morning or after dinner. Nice livingrooms, a great great diningroom! The kitchens have everything a person needs, the only problem is that both dishwashers leak and don't quite clean if they are more than half full. We were with 12 adults and a child, fitting reasonably in the 8 bedrooms. I would say that this is the maximum amount of adults. More young children would not be a problem, but it would've been even more comfortable with less adults. Only 3 of the 8 bedrooms are well suited for adults. All in all, I would recommend this house to other people!

Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers.

Our Stay at the Reunion House was just perfect! The accomodations were much nicer than I had expected - a very charming home. The two kitchens worked great for our group also. We hope to make our trip an annual event for years to come. Owners of this special home were a pleasure to do business with.

About the owner: We are three families that purchased the 1828 Reunion House in 2002 after having rented it for 3 years. The Thrailkills - the owners before us had owned the house for 39 years and ran an antique shop "The 1828 House" oout of the barn. We formed a ski club - Trailthrill Ski and Riding Club, affectionately named as a play on the original owners surname. We have been restoring the house since buying it. Every year we make it better! We love to share it with other families who are winter sports entusiasts as we are, or those that just love Vermont. Every year there are several weddings at the house. Please consider getting married at the 1828 Reunion House - it's so romantic, and if you do - send pictures!!

                  Why the Owner Chose Chester:
We rented the house for three seasons before making the octeganarian owners an offer to buy it. It's such a unique and wonderful place that really inspires good times, and where memories are made!! Make some Vermont memories with your family.
