Nice place to stay!
Nice place to stay!
The owners were charming and the place was exactly as pictured. The beds were comfortable and there was lots of space and everything that was needed. The porch and upper deck were both wonderful places to while away the time. We ate all of our meals (when we cooked... lol) out there. The weather wasn't the greatest and I'd recommend bringing ear plugs to block out the roosters and barking dogs but those things are out of the owners control. The only two recommendations that I could make for the owners would be to invest in WiFi as the internet is very slow and unreliable over the phone connection (we had t-mobile) and to have someplace to hang clothes to dry. Also, bring a flashlight so you don't step on the resident hermit crabs who come out onto the pathway at night! They were very cool to see! If you are going to be there over a weekend I would definitely recommend going to Belly Buttons and ordering the BBQ ribs...they are fall off the bone wonderful!!

We'll Return for Certain!
We'll Return for Certain!
My husband and I spent 10 days in March at Casa Almendro and had such a wonderful time we are returning next year. The studio apartment is quite spacious and very clean. You can cook all your meals if you choose because the kitchen is so well-equipped and roomy. Or, you can fix your own breakfasts and lunches as we did and eat dinner out at the fun restaurants just down the hill. The bathroom is lovely with a large shower of pretty green and blue tiles and plenty of towels. As a plus, beach towels and chairs are furnished also. The apartment is so roomy that the bedroom area and living area feel quite separate. Though the roosters and dogs make their presence known, there are fans to drown them out so you can sleep peacefully. But the best aspect of this apartment is its wrap-around veranda which provides an ocean view on 3 sides and remains breezy and cool despite the Vieques heat. Every day we looked forward to breakfast and coffee on the veranda as well as returning from the beach and relaxing with a cold drink ,enjoying the breeze and view. Wicker sofa, chair and coffee table and glass-top dining table and chairs provide a wonderful opportunity for outdoor living which we loved! As bonuses, a bakery and convenience/general store are a 2 minute walk away, the beach a 10- minute walk and Sun Bay a 20 minute walk. We tried almost all the restaurants and you will find menus and prices to suite all tastes. But our stay was really made special by the warmth and hospitality of owners Eilleen and Anthony. Their sincere friendliness and warmth clearly show how much they cherish their Vieques home and welcome visitors to enjoy every aspect of the island. Their knowledge is vast and they happily share it. We loved talking with them and look forward to sunset chats on the veranda in 2014. We highly recommend Casa Almendro and Eileen and Anthony if you want a vacation place that feels like home.

Everything in the description and the other review from New Haven we found to be true; except I only once used the earplugs I brought … even the night sounds were part of the magic. From our terrace we could see sunrise and sunset, and the waters and sky of the Caribbean which lapped the shore just a block away on the Malecon. The owners live downstairs and they were very nice and helpful. We did most all our cooking at the house and the facilities were excellent. Only disappointment is the supply of fresh food at the local stores is very limited. We did not need to rent a car as we could walk to Sun Beach, and rented bikes to venture to further beaches. We rented bikes from Blackbeard Sports, went horseback riding with Esperanza Riding Company rented kayaks and got a guided snorkeling tour from the Fun Brothers. It was all wonderful!

Great location. Nice views of the Caribbean. Walk to restaurants of Esperanza, safe neighborhood, very nice on-site owners who are very accommodating. We cooked in most meals due to the well-stocked kitchen. Very nice garden on-site and a lovely, shaded porch that wraps around the apartment. Next time we would consider not renting a car because you can walk to a couple beaches from the house in 10 minutes. Neighborhood does have roosters (which is typical of PR neighborhoods) so bring ear plugs; but, it is all part of the charm and my sense is no part of Vieques is without a rooster within earshot. Overall, great value for the money and you couldn't have two nicer owners.
