Our family of 6 just spent a week at the "Porch House" and cannot say enough nice things about it. We were overwhelmed from the moment we opened the screen doors to the porch. The pictures on the web site do not do the house the justice it deserves. The screened in porch is fantastic and we spent many hours sitting out on it. There is a hammock, porch swing and many chairs. The interior of the house is great. The kitchen is modern. The rooms are large. The house is very welcoming and you feel at home as soon as you walk in. The location of the house is also great. It is a short walk (< 5 minutes) to the beach, downtown Pass Christian and the park. The beach is white sand and there are very few people on it. There are a number of nice restaurants in the area (John and Kathy provide a list). There are many things to do in the area as well. Here are some of the things we did: (took the ferry to Ship Island, went to the Casino, visited New Orleans, yoga in Bay St Louis (Tree House Yoga), went to the Gun Range (Gun Ho) in Pass Christian, lots of shopping in Gulfport and D'Iberville, tattoo in Gulfport (Jack & Diane's), and ate at many of the nice restaurants (Shaggy's, Hook's, Darwells, Juan Tequilla's) in the area). John and Kathy were very helpful and answered any questions we had. We are now going to make this an annual family vacation Thank you again John and Kathy.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

My three grown kids and I spent a long winter weekend at the Porch House celebrating my birthday and attending my niece's wedding. The four of us couldn't have been more comfortable in your wonderful, historic Porch House. Having grown up in "The Pass" myself, and my kids having many fond childhood memories of summers & holidays visiting their grandparents there, we just couldn't have been in a better place. It was truly magical. The house is so warmly decorated and I only wish my kitchen was so well appointed. DEFINITELY will rent it again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you for staying at the Porch House. Kathy and I appreciate families renewing their ties with the Pass, as Kathy's family comes back as often as possible. And thanks for the comments on our "new" kitchen. It is always a balancing act attempting a renovation to an 1890 historic house. We are glad you think we got it right. And please do come back when you can.

My husband and our two children rented the "Porch House" for 5 days at the end of July. The house was well appointed and the kichen was stocked with all of the necessary cooking utensils.Even though we were there at the hottest time of the year, the ac kept the house very cool and we loved sitting outside on the porch at night. We were walking distance to the beach and within a quarter of a mile of lots of restaurants, fishing piers and many more places. We hope to rent it again soon. We have told many of our friends about it.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

We had the pleasure of staying at The Porch House for a week in March and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We brought our 4 daughters, aged 7,9 and 12 year old twins. The house was very well stocked with everything you need for your stay and just a short stroll form the gorgeous beach. The historic homes along Scenic Drive were stunning! The water was warm and the beach was not at all crowded. We ventured down to New Orleans for a day and visited the Children's Museum in Gulfport. When not at the beach, our girls spent their time on the fabulous screened porch. This was our first time on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, as we usually visit Alabama or Florida, and we enjoyed it the most. It was a very relaxing, peaceful vacation, and we are looking forward to visiting again.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.
Owner response: Kathy and I are happy your family had a great time on the Gulf Coast and Pass Christian. Please come again, and thanks for the kind words

We had a lovely week in Pass Christian and enjoyed the house. We brought all of our old-time instruments with us and played music in the house and on the porch. We had everything we needed to be comfortable in the house. The neighborhood was quiet the week we were there. We enjoyed good seafood each day. The weather cooperated very well and we certainly enjoyed all the spring flowers that were showing off everywhere. Thanks for sharing your house with us.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+.

My family of 5 and my sister's family of 4 stayed in The Porch House for the weekend of the Oyster Festival in Pass Christian. The house was within a 1/2 mile of the harbor where the festival took place, so we could easily pile our crew into the car or walk to the festival. The house is also in easy walking distance to the beach, the park, and a very short drive to the downtown area, where we enjoyed delicious food and unique shopping. We also drove over to Bay St. Louis for lunch and ice-cream one afternoon, and what a charming town that is (the drive is about 5 minutes). The three bedrooms accommodated our families perfectly. Each couple had a nice plush bed and the kids all shared the room with the trundle bed. The porch was perfect for sitting and chatting, reading a book in the afternoon, or watching the children play. The hard wood floors were my favorite feature of the house, but watch out for the large door jams (true to the time of the home), they took some getting used to, we tripped over them a few times. The house was fully equipped with everything we needed. Lots of pillows, towels, extra blankets...all was so nice! After our trip to the Pass we are seriously considering purchasing real estate in the area, it's just absolutely charming. Scenic Drive is breath taking, and my run along the beach was the highlight of my trip. I would highly recommend Pass Christian to anyone, and The Porch House was so charming and comfortable...truly a 5 star trip!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Kim, thank you for the review. Kathy and I are glad you and your family enjoyed the Pass and surrounding area, and hope you find property soon. We believe Pass Christian is a wonderful and unique place to enjoy the beauty of the gulf coast, and love sharing our home so more visitors can experience why we love it here.

The location of the property is just a short block from the beach. We were able to walk down to the beach at night and go look for hermit crabs and blue crabs, which we caught both of. The house is very open and the porch is to die for. We had to take turns in the hammack on such a beautiful day and just lay and listen to the wild life that surronded the area. The house and yard were very clean and well maintained. The herbs growning by the second porch off the side of the house were nice for cooking. If you are looking for a great place to go back in time and get away from the hussle and bussle of your busy life, staying in The Pass is what you are looking for!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

This was the perfect spot to relax after Mardi Gras and the only regret was that the stay was too short. Next time will be longer. Thanks for letting us share your lovely house. We loved both porches.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Owner info

About the owner: Kathy grew up in New Orleans, and has family in the area. John grew up in North Carolina, and met Kathy through their mutual love of sailing.
Why the Owner Chose Pass Christian:
Kathy's family, like a lot of people from New Orleans who have homes and cottages in the Pass, moved to Pass Christian permanently some years ago to enjoy the sailing and beach. John and Kathy have restored 3 old homes from the 20s, and jumped at the chance to own a historic home from 1890.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The front porch of our home, plus the historic nature of Seal Avenue and the Scenic Drive Historic District, made this an easy choice for us. One block to the Waterfront Memorial park, with its beautiful view through the live oaks to the Gulf, and its well equipted childrens playground, plus 3 new lighted tennis courts. The short 2 block walk to the downtown restaurants and shops, one block to the beach and the beautiful live oaks of Scenic Drive, plus the marina and yacht club 3 blocks away, make the home an ideal location as well. Want to get off the porch (it's hard to do),go kayaking on the Wolfe River and into the bayou, or take in a show at one of the many casinos 20 minutes down the Gulf. or enjoy one of many New Orleans inspired eateries close by, from elegant to quirky, you cant miss good food.
