A very good experience!
A very good experience!
We spent a very pleasant and relaxing week at Bender's Cabin. Marilyn was very nice and helpful with information about hikes and activities in the area. The cabin was as described and very well supplied and clean. It was surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers. Our daughter and family spent a night with us and Marilyn welcomed all of us into her home next door to meet Bert and Ernie, her cats.

This cabin is the best deal you will find near a ski mountain in Colorado. The owner Marilyn is one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met. I booked this cabin for my sweetheart and I to get away for a ski vacation to monarch mountain, looking for a deal on a small budget. At the last minute she was called in for work, so I brought my longtime friend Bart to ski with. Upon arrival I was not only shocked how literally everything was provided in the cabin, but also Bart had informed me he had stayed there with his family in his childhood. Bart went on to tell me that he had reserved the cabin, but had to cancel at the last minute do to gettting deployed to Iraq. I told Marilyn this upon departure and she rushed over to meet Bart exclaiming that they used to share emails and she thought something had happened to them when the emails stopped. She was sobbing when she hugged him and expressed her feelings in her heart for the men who serve. Not only did she remember him but also decided to honor his deposit and complimentary stay from over 12 years ago... I recently just received an email expressing her gratitude for the clean cabin we left, and thought to myself that I needed to write a review though I rarely do so unless it is negative. Thanks again Marilyn, I didn't know they made them like you anymore! I will be coming back for years to come. Rodney

Perfect location, perfect setting, we felt at home...
Perfect location, perfect setting, we felt at home...
We stumbled upon Bender's Cabin while trying to plan a ski vacation to Monarch. We very much wanted something with a kitchen so that we could retire 'home' after a hard day on the mountain and relax. We are also very budget-minded, and with the price of gas, lift tickets, etc., try to capitalize on 'out of the way' ski areas so that we might add an extra day or two on the mountain. Bender's Cabin fit the bill perfectly. We have two children who each had their own double sized bed in the second bedroom. The living room was much larger than we imagined, and the kitchen, also large, was very well stocked with dishes, pots, pans, etc. But, the true blessings we had were getting to meet the owners, who are right out the back door. They are truly a lovely couple who work hard to ensure the accomodations are up to your expectations. We had access to a garage which held our Ford Expedition, which is a rare treat and certain plus. Also, the cabin appeared to be wheelchair-friendly in terms of bathroom arrangements, wide hallways and doors. Although the town of Poncha Springs lacks a vibrant light-life (read non-existent...which was fine for us), if one feels the urge to hit the town, Salida is a short five minute drive away and equipped with Wal Mart, an awesome historical district, micro-brews, hot springs pool, etc. that can fulfill virtually any need. And Monarch Ski Area was only about a 15 minute drive away. Ski rental is also available in Poncha Springs to avoid the lines on the hill. The cabin sits in between Salida and Monarch Ski Area, so it's the best of both worlds. Without a doubt, when our travels take us back to Monarch for some fresh powder, no lift lines, and super friendly ski-area staff, our first call will be to Bender's Cabin. If it's unavailable...we'll reschedule our trip.
