About Dean Roberts

We are Dean and Dana Roberts, two lifelong ranchers. Our ranch is working Angus cattle ranch. We love the western cowboy lifestyle and know that you will enjoy your stay at our out of the way cabin.

Dean Roberts purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Dean Roberts chose Salida

We built the cabin as a private getaway for our family and friends, just a short ways from our ranch home. Our visitors enjoyed it so much that we decided to invite more or our "friends" to join us at the Post Office Ranch Cabin. The Post Office ranch is built around one of the original post offices in the valley.

What makes this cabin unique

The Post Office Ranch is located just off Hwy 50 on well maintained gravel roads. The cabin is remote and quiet, yet convenient to Salida and Monarch Ski Resort. The South Arkansas River is just a short walk from your deck. We know that any angler will enjoy the private fishing on over a mile of cottonwood lined mountain stream. Just across the river is BLM land, ready to explore.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Mu husband and I spent a long relaxing weekend at the Post Office Ranch with my parents this spring. The cabin is well equipped and very peaceful. We really enjoyed watching the horses in the field through the giant picture window. Even though it was rainy and snowy for much of our stay, the cabin was so cozy we didn't care about the weather. When the sun did poke through, the views were amazing. We would certainly recommend the Post Office Ranch to anyone looking for a quiet place to relax with great access to the mountains and Salida.

Take care,

Great views from the private cabin, it was well kept and stocked with everything we needed. It was the perfect launching point for our Colorado adventures. The owners are good people.

Classic Colorado experience on the Post Office Ranch

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful, well built cabin with great woodwork and western art throughout.

The views of the working ranch and snow capped mountains were awesome. The daily visit by a flock of wild turkeys strutting through the pasture was an extra gift.

Great stay...we will be back...

Love this place. Lovely cabin on a lovely ranch, with cows, birds and horses. Nice location. Closest to Salida, but not far from Buena Vista.

True Colorado Experience!!!

  • 5 of 5

Sitting outside drinking coffee surrounded by 14'ers and looking at this authentic log cabin situated on a working ranch made us feel like we were in the Colorado we dreamed of when moving to the Front Range area 26 years ago. It was a lovely weekend getaway. I only wish we had planned to stay longer. We would have taken any cabin in these surroundings, but this one was a quality built home with solid timbers and cozy decorations. The size was more than adequate for 5 of us. We could hear the creek just off of the deck and the Arkansas River is beyond a pasture, maybe a 2 or 3 minute walk away, not to mention the stars and the milky way!!! Poncha Springs and Salida are minutes away with plenty of restaurants and amenities. We ate delicious Italian food at Grimo's in Poncha Springs. There are numerous hot springs within 30 min. and plenty of hiking and biking trails (a few minutes from Monarch Ski Area too) - so many things to do! The owners were friendly and communicative throughout, and after showing us the cabin, we had complete privacy. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful cabin. We hope to come back again and stay longer!!!
