About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 2-4)

Tucked away in the aspens and overlooking the Little Cochetopa Creek and national forest, our modern vacation home with 1000 square feet is located 10 miles west of Salida, Colorado and 20 minutes from Monarch Ski Resort. Spruce Ridge Guest Home is private, secluded and scenic. It is ideal for 1 couple or for a family of up to 5 using the sofa beds. However, it is not suitable for 5 adults.

Your home away from home is completely furnished. There is a large bedroom with a queen sized bed with soft, luxurious sheets for the ultimate in sleeping comfort, a sleeper sofa, private bath and an outside deck. The living room has a sleeper sofa and/or single bed, an adjacent second bath and two outside decks. The kitchen has all the appliances of home. You'll also find a utility room with washer/dryer, and a pantry and mudroom for your hiking boots, day packs, ski boots, and jackets.

The vacation home is available for short-term and monthly rentals year-round. You'll be staying on our 35 acre llama ranch at 8,450 feet and surrounded by the San Isabel National Forest. We are on a county maintained road three miles off of US Hwy 50 and 20 minutes from either Salida or Monarch Ski Resort. Our county road is plowed regularly in the winter as is our driveway. Nevertheless, AWD or 4WD vehicles are advised for any winter vacation in Colorado.

With national forest bordering our ranch on 3 sides, you have unlimited recreation including hiking, world-class whitewater rafting and kayaking, mountain biking, wildlife viewing, birdwatching, and fly fishing in the Little Cochetopa Creek that flows right by the cabin. Salida, 10 miles away, boasts the largest downtown historical district and the largest indoor hot springs pool in Colorado. Within a 30 minute drive there are several other hot springs resorts. Salida is also renown for its diverse arts community, galleries and weekend bands.

During the summer, with reservations, you can experience one of our day or overnight llama treks with experienced staff and all equipment provided. Fall provides spectacular colors as the changing aspens contrast with dark green pines. In the winter there’s snowshoeing and cross-country skiing from the cabin, and Monarch Ski and Snowboarding Resort with classic champagne powder is only 20 minutes away. Premier snowmobiling and cross-country ski trails are close by.

We offer a non-smoking environment inside and outside. Because of our llamas and desire to have an allergy-free cabin, pets, including companion pets, are not allowed. Adults and well-behaved children are always welcome.

About Dan Jones

My wife and I, Dan and Lillie Jones, have lived on our 35 acre llama ranch since 1991 with 7 llamas that are used for our llama outfitting business. We built the vacation home in 2007 to provide guests like yourself a place to stay in our corner of paradise. As previous guests have said, 'your vacation home is tucked away and secluded, yet easily accessible to summer and winter recreation and is the best kept secret in Colorado.'

Dan Jones purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Dan Jones chose South Central

Our vacation home is beautifully situated on a year-round creek with mountain views and access to millions of acres of year-round recreation. We have treasured our privilege to live here and to share it with others with our year-round modern guest cabin and our outfitting business.

What makes this cabin unique

Many folks enjoy the seclusion, our year-round creek with fishing for brook trout, seeing llamas grazing from three decks and windows, the myriad of on-site and nearby recreation, the 27 plus species of birds around our vacation home, and of course, the stunning Rocky Mountains with the greatest concentration of 14,000 foot peaks (15) in the United States.

A very special getaway

  • 5 of 5

Not only is the guest house modern and well-equipped, the views are amazing as well. We were also close to several hot springs areas. All in all, this was what the doctor ordered.

Fantastic experience!

  • 5 of 5

Dan has made this retreat second to none! The cabin is like home, well appointed and so comfortable. The view is fabulous and the babbling creek just off the deck makes the experience that much better! We enjoyed visiting with Dan and greatly appreciated his knowledge of the area. We relaxed, we ate well, we saw the gorgeous scenery, we hiked and we did nothing but enjoy the outdoor space. Loved the cabin, the llamas and Dan. Hope to return for a llama adventure. Well done Dan!!!! Thank you :)

A Quiet Get-Away

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a great time in Colorado, and this cabin in the woods served us well during our "down times." The cabin offered everything we needed, including that true "quiet, get-away" ambience. No traffic noise at all, no television (though there is internet access)...why, we didn't even really hear the owners of the property! The only chorus were the birds, the breeze in the trees, the creek, and the rolling thunder of a nearby storm. Of course, we also had to smuggle grass to the llamas before we left! We would highly recommend this cabin to anyone who wants access to all the sport, scenery, and shopping central Colorado has to offer, yet come "home" to a place where you can truly put up your feet and relax. The Wiles.

Clean, friendly, impeccable

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was very neatly tucked away in the mountains near Salida and offered plenty of privacy. The cabin was very clean and neatly organized. The amenities were plenty including everything needed to cook an entire meal, dessert, and extras! The cabinets included full plate, bowl, and cup sets as well as silverware and all general seasonings for meals. The cabin is conveniently located in a dirt road between Monarch Mountain and Poncha Springs, CO for a quick drive in case of need of odds and ends items. The washing machine and dryer worked wonderfully and detergent and dryer sheets were provided. The view at the cabin was great and the grill on the back porch worked well for making burgers. The decor for the cabin, even down to the bed sheets were very tastefully picked. The owner was very nice, accommodating and answered all of our questions in a timely manner. He even was nice enough to bring us a newspaper clipping with local events for the days we would be in the area. Thank you again for a wonderful stay. We will be happy to consider this cabin again for our lodging options in the future!
