  We stayed at Sunbums for Spring Break and were not disappointed! The home is extremely well-maintained and conveniently located towards the west end of the island We loved being able to go out on the dock and fish (not great fishing, but we did catch some fish), and the beach was only a short walk, bike, or drive away. The house had all the amenities we needed, including tv's in every room, a complete kitchen, washer/dryer and charcoal grill! The beds were all comfortable, as was the living room furniture. We only had 3 guests, but the house is actually pretty large and could easily sleep 8-10. The owner was extremely easy to deal with and very good at communicating with us. I would highly recommend this property to others. In terms of things to do, we enjoyed Ft. Gaines, the Estuarium, bird sanctuary, the beach and fishing. We also took the ferry across the Bay and did a day trip to Gulf Shores. What a difference! We were so happy to return to Dauphin Island and Sunbums after the day in heavily developed Gulf Shores. We did learn that live bait (especially live shrimp) works best for fishing. My son and husband booked a charter fishing trip with Lower Alabama Fishing Charters and had a wonderful experience. We also would recommend the bakery (go early or be prepared to stand in line a while) and Skinners Seafood.

  OUR FAMILY STATED AT THIS WONDERFUL HOUSE AT DAUPHIN ISLAND, EVERYTHING WAS SO CLEAN AND THE HOUSE WAS VERY NICE AND HAD EVERYTHING THAT WAS NEEDED. THE OWNERS WERE VERY NICE AND EASY TO WORK WITH. THE ISLAND WAS JUST BEAUTIFUL. IT REALLY MAKES YOUR VACATION ENJOYABLE WHEN YOU HAVE SUCH NICE OWNERS TO DEAL WITH. I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THEM FOR BEING SO FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL. WE WILL LOOK FORWARD TO RETURNING NEXT YEAR.

  We had a wonderful time during our stay. The house was spacious and well-equipped. We thoroughly enjoyed the waterfront aspect of the home as well as the close proximity to the beach. The owner was a joy to work with during the rental process. This was our first time staying on Dauphin Island and I must say it won't be our last.

  Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway.

  Our family has rented this getaway for 5 years now. It is our favorite place to meet up as a family for vacation and making wonderful memories. The property is very accesible and easy to get to, good directions. The owners are always available should you get lost or have any problems. Sunbums II is like our home away from home - comfortable, relaxed, fun, everything you'd want or need for a wonderful vacation. All the furniture is nice and comfortable, the beds are comfortable - the whole house is roomy and easy to navigate even with a large group. As seen by the pics, the house is very inviting. From the time you walk in, you feel like you are at the beach with the nautical decor. Through all our times renting, we have never had a problem. Everything is always working, clean, and ready to go when we arrive. I've never seen one bug inside the dwelling. It is very clean. The kitchen is fully equipped, ready to cook, so don't forget your groceries! We've had many good meals there and enjoyed our family laughs after dinner around the bar and table. Adults and kids alike also enjoy the early a.m. fishing and after dinner fishing just outside on the pier. For those owning boats, this is the best for you with a boat slip and the best fishing access in the Gulf of Mexico! The beach is just west on down the island. The beach area is fully equipped, beautiful, clean, and for a nominal fee - good parking, a/c restrooms, showers, beach rentals (i.e., chairs, etc.), and snack bar. Best beach ever! Also, don't forget to go to the SeaLab on the East end of the island - it's great! Just a reminder - don't forget your bicycles! Our kids ride their bicycles the length of the island and feel safe doing so! There is a bicycle track on the east end of the island, which is the length of half the island. There are also many great shops for souvenirs, beachwear, beach supplies, even groceries, and fresh seafood market. Restaurants? - always! Best seafood ever! If you like a relaxed, off the beaten path, quiet, comfortable, safe, and beautiful getaway, I suggest you come here! You will not regret it! We never have! We look forward to our family vacation every year and hope to continue this family tradition for years to come!!! Love it!!!
