Rodanthe cottage description
This beach cottage has been renovated, and you'll be rejuvenated during your stay in this cute, cozy, comfortable retreat. It's had a face lift with new windows, siding, expanded deck, and concrete parking in front. It's also had a body lift--it's been raised up from the sand to allow an even better ocean view.
The owners have given this great small cottage back its charm inside as well as out--updated bedroom decor, new flooring in several rooms, and gone is the old paneling of the 80s and in with new modern colors and decor for living and kitchen. Wireless internet and free long distance calls have also been added for your convenience! Whether you've stayed here for years or you're making your first journey to this cottage, you'll be well pleased.
You'll awake to an awesome sunrise when you sleep upstairs in the rooftop bedroom. Take your fresh brewed cup of coffee to the rooftop deck where you'll be up high where the seagulls cry; watch dolphins play and pelicans dive--whales have even been spotted rolling in the deep blue-green of the Atlantic from this perfect perch.
When you're ready to hit the beach, just grab your beach towel, chair, umbrella, and book; for you are only steps from the sandy shore via a convenient beach access. And don't forget your fishing pole--blue fish, flounder, red drum, and more can be caught practically from your front yard! The fish-cleaning table and grill will help you complete your fishing experience with a succulent feast straight from the sea.
After that hard-earned nap, take a short walk down the beach; you'll stroll past the Serendipity. This house was featured as The Rodanthe Inn in the movie 'Nights in Rodanthe'. It was saved from the onslaught of the ocean by being moved.
At the end of the day, head back to the rooftop deck and take in the panoramic canvas of the ever-changing sunset sky as the melodic rhythm of the waves provide background music sweeter than you've ever heard. When viewed from this special outlook, even the dazzling night stars seem to sparkle more brightly. Watch for shooting stars with your wide-eyed young adventurers, or steal a private moment with the one you love as though the two of you are the only ones in the world.
And don't forget to book a week in October or November. The Outer Banks has plenty to do that time of year and the sunrise, sunset, moon, and stars are just as glorious from the rooftop deck. The Pea Island Refuge is nearby where you can take one of many walking trails where observation points are provided where you can observe the 365 species of birds. And anyone in Rodanthe can tell you the great fishing spots of the day when you come to the Banks for October or November fishing. Come see the windsurfers on the Atlantic; they love the Outer Banks during these months.
You'll find the priceless vacation experience you're looking for at just the right price when you choose this quaint beach retreat.

We had a great time in OBX area during our stay in Windsong at Rodanthe. We've stayed in this cottage before and always enjoy the ocean view from the rooftop deck. We appreciated the short walk to the beach when we were piled with chairs, beach bags, toys, kids, ect. We've stayed in larger cottages along the OBX and realized what a chore it is hauling our groceries up several flights of steps(most of them have kitchen on top floor). We stay away from them. One flight is all we have to tackle in this cottage. The cottage had what we needed for a comfortable stay, which included the new queen size bed upstairs. We had great weather, which is the norm for this area in September. We've been here in October and the weather is wonderful during that time too. We love OBX area and we'll be visiting this cottage again.

About: There are 7 of us!! We are scattered from the mountains of North Carolina to the desert plains of Arizona but we meet in Rodanthe each year to open the two cottages for summer rentals that our dad built in 1982 and that we inherited from mama and dad in 2004. Although we each have different personalities and our personal situations are different, we have learned to keep talking, work out each problem as they come and so are doing the best we can with the wonderful legacy mama and dad left us. In December 2010 we sold Windsong's idenical that has sit beside her since 1982. Since then we have done interior and exterior renovations to Windsong at Rodanthe, giving back her beachy charm.
Dad built Windsong and Windchime in 1982, but our family and Outer Banks go back to the 1950s when dad and Uncle Alonzo started coming to this area for great goose hunting. At that time the Outer Banks was a rather desolate place with just a few beach cottages in Nags Head. But that's what attracted these two brothers to the area. In 1972 dad and his brother bought soundside property in Rodanthe, building cottages side by side over-looking the Pamlico Sound. Mama and dad moved to Rodanthe from the mountains of North Carolina in 1979. Dad bought a fishing boat, got his commercial fishing licence, gathering his net catch and crabs from numerous crab pots, taking them to the Manteo Market each morning. Both mama and dad quickly developed a great relationship with the Rodanthe locals and soon was considered locals by the locals. In 1982 dad built Windsong and Windchime; he was a building contractor and knew the best of his trade.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
When Windsong was built by our father in 1982 there were just a few beach cottages scattered across Rodanthe's oceanside seascape. That's what they were called back then--'quaint beach cottages'. The now prominent multi-floor houses that domininate the oceanside of Rodanthe is far from being called 'quaint beach cottages'. These monster houses began being built in 1996 when Rodanthe got the wonderful water system they have today. As the small cottages were sold off, the larger multi-floor houses took their place, over-shadowing the remaining small, older cottages; therefore, inhibiting their ocean view. Somehow Windsong at Rodanthe has avoided being swallowed by this invasion of the monster houses. It still retains its beachy look, with no multi-floor houses to interfer with its views. Also the wetland area located adjunct her back line has helped her retain her isolation. The wetlands in back and open beach in front, viewed from the rooftop deck, gives this true 'quaint beach cottage' open, expanded scenes of wetlands, Atlantic Ocean, Pamlico Sound, and town of Rodanthe seen no where else in Rodanthe.
