Pacific Grove house description

**Good Thru Feb. 2015. Call for details**

Welcome to "Storybook Cottage"!

This updated storybook cottage will charm you with its sunny location in a quiet Pacific Grove neighborhood, casually sophisticated décor, peeks of Monterey Bay and contemporary chef’s dream kitchen.

You will be enchanted from the moment you lay eyes on this picture-perfect 2-story, 4-bedroom 2-bath fairytale cottage with its warm wheat-colored stucco exterior accented with soft-green shutters and trim, white picket fence and front yard planted in colorful flowering natives.

Upon your arrival you will be greeted by complimentary hors d'oeuvres and wine or sparkling cider, passes to the famous Spa on the Plaza in Monterey, tickets for a Scheid Winery tasting in Carmel-by-the-Sea and a basket of local information. An assigned concierge vacation house manager is available to assist you during your stay. We also have provided spa amenities in the bathrooms, plush bathrobes and luxury towels.

A combined living/dining room features a painted-brick gas fireplace, dark hardwood floors, sand-colored walls, filmy white draperies and a white ceiling crisscrossed with dark brown beams. Arched doors throughout add to the magic of this unique cottage. A love of nature is conveyed by decorative images of butterflies, birds, seashells, starfish, leaves and flowers.

Relax and enjoy conversations in a cozy living room with a comfortable white settee and ottoman that serves as a coffee table and brown wicker chairs, all atop a floral area rug. There is a 42" HDL TV with Blue Ray Disc Player, a small video collection and a small library.

Enjoy meals in the nearby dining area, which has a pine-topped farm-style table, a bench and 6 chairs with patterned cushions to seat 8.

The newly renovated kitchen is gorgeous -- equipped with everything a chef could want to create gourmet meals. Among the features: white granite counter tops, gray cabinetry, a central island, white tile floors in a honeycomb pattern and an antiqued hutch. Gleaming stainless steel appliances include a gas range in the central island, an oven, side-by-side refrigerator and a dishwasher. A nook holds a stacking washer-dryer behind a wooden door. French doors from the kitchen, offering peeks of the bay, open to a side yard enclosed by a 6’ redwood fence. A gas grill and a table for 4 are provided.

A small pass-through bathroom between the kitchen and a sitting room has a shower with white honeycomb tile, a free-standing ceramic sink and a commode. Relax with a book on a white wrought-iron trundle bed in a small adjacent room that could be a 4th bedroom. The trundle, which has a white coverlet and embroidered floral pillows, can sleep 2. This room also includes a robin’s-egg-blue wing-back chair, two small wrought iron tables, a wrought-iron lamp and a floral area rug.

The 2nd story has 3 bedrooms and 1 bath. The handsomely appointed master has glimpses of the water between trees. The first thing to catch your eye is a wall decoration that features 9 brass bells. The bedroom is furnished with a queen with luxury linens, blue and white patterned coverlet and pillow shams, round glass bedside tables with wrought iron bases shaped like tree branches, an antique oak dresser, 2 small trunks, and a carved-wood-framed chair upholstered in a white and blue floral pattern.

The bathroom has a shower with tan and brown checkerboard-patterned tiles, a white tiled floor and a free-standing ceramic sink with an oval mirror.

Bedroom 2 has two twins -- which convert to a king with Memory Foam topper -- with luxury linens, yellow and white coverlets and embroidered floral pillows, a similarly patterned area rug and 2 white dressers.

The 3rd smaller bedroom has a double bed with luxury linens, white floral quilted coverlet, white wooden bedside tables and a small black desk. A corner window reveals whitewater crashing on Lover's Point in the distance.

Pacific Grove is home of the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the main entrance to 17-Mile Drive. Within this charming city, known for its old-fashioned, friendly downtown and colorful historic Victorian homes, are spectacular vistas and recreational opportunities. Surfing is ideal at Asilomar State Beach. Kayaking and scuba diving allow you to visit with playful otters. Tide pooling for the nature enthusiast is available at several beaches. A walk or bike ride along the shoreline recreation trail offers breathtaking views of paradise.

Visit the Museum of Natural History, Point Pinos Light-house, tour Asilomar State Park, or enjoy the Sunset anywhere between Lovers Point Park and Asilomar Beach. Pacific Grove is known as Butterfly Town U.S.A. since every October the Monarchs migrate to the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary where they winter until February. Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Course is the top rated municipal golf in the state with over 70,000 rounds played annually. It is referred to as poor man's Pebble Beach due to its proximity and resemblance of Pebble Beach courses.

Enjoy a walking tour of downtown Pacific Grove. The town had its beginning in 1875 as a summer Methodist camp where several hundreds assembled to worship amidst rough tents. Tour brochures are available at the Chamber.

          Pacific Grove's Past:

The town had its beginning in 1875 as a summer Methodist camp, where several hundred people assembled to worship amidst rough tents. In time, the fragrant pines and fresh sea air brought others to the Pacific Grove Retreat to rest and meditate. The first camp meeting of the Pacific Coast branch of the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle was held here in June 1879. Fashioned after the Methodist Sunday school teachers' training camp established in 1874 at Lake Chautauqua, N.Y., this location became part of a nation-wide educational/cultural network.

In November 1879, after the summer campers returned home, Robert Louis Stevenson wandered into the deserted campgrounds: I have never been in any place so dreamlike. Indeed, it was not so much like a deserted town as like a scene upon the stage by daylight, and with no one on the boards -- from 'The Old Pacific Capitol'

By 1889, the resort was incorporated, becoming the City of Pacific Grove. The last P.G. Chautauqua was held in August 1926.

The Monterey Peninsula is unique in its combination of breathtaking natural resources and a multiplicity of cultural and entertainment possibilities. You can find something for every possible taste. For nature lovers, there is the diversity of mountain and sea, for picnicking, surfing, fishing, horseback riding, hiking, beachcombing, bird-watching, kayaking, scuba diving, tidepooling, biking and more. If you want a man-made excitement, we have art galleries galore, excellent fine-art museums, local theater, outstanding restaurants, boutiques, a natural history and a children's museum, a world-class aquarium, and that's just for starters. History buffs will have a field day exploring the adobes of Monterey. There's so much to do that you cannot possibly do it all in one visit, which means you will have to come back!
