The tropical setting of the fully landscaped 3 acre property, with its palm trees, moss-draped oaks, and southern pecan trees, is situated directly on the Marsh to the east, with un-obscured views of Cumberland Island, 'the pass' to the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean, and Fernandina Beach, FL.; and un-obscured River views to the south (front) of the property! No other rental property in Saint Marys offers these beautiful water views.
You can enjoy sitting on the wrap-around porch of the historic home and watch marsh birds, sail boats, and Cumberland Island Ferries as they head in-and-out of Saint Marys! With binoculars you might also get a sighting of a Submarine based at the US Naval Submarine Base in Kingsland entering or leaving the pass!
The beautiful historic two-story “Main House” with its original Heart Pine floors and 12' ceilings, consists of 2400 sf of living space and is comprised of 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, formal dining, comfy living room, spacious eat-in kitchen with marsh views, washer-dryer and everything you need for a perfect vacation or extended stay in Saint Marys! Furnishings consist of beautiful antiques and antique reproductions that add to the historic ambience of the home.
The separate upstairs “Captains Quarters”, with it’s upstairs deck that offers “the best views” to the East, is 1200 sf comprised of a 14 ft. Vauted Ceiling Great Room with living, kitchen, and breakfast areas; queen bedroom with walk-in closet; and large bath with jetted garden tub, walk-in shower, two large double vanities, and private water closet.
The historic “Commissary Cottage” is said to be the actual commissary building from the “SM&K” (Saint Marys/Kingsland Railroad) founded in 1865 by Captain Lemuel Johnson. The quaint cottage, newly renovated and decorated, is situated behind the main house on the property, with its own deck and patio area over looking the scenic marsh and beautiful landscape of the compound property. The one-room efficiency cottage has everything you would have in the comfort of your own home including its own fully stocked full-size kitchen, breakfast area, living room, queen bedroom sleeping area, and private bathroom with shower.
This property is the closest rental property to town (only one “small town block” to the Saint Marys River waterfront and village shops and restaurants)! As stated in Southern Living Magazine article featuring Saint Marys in 2006, “There’s something about Saint Marys”! If you haven’t experienced Saint Marys you are missing a rare gem!

- The quaint town with our friendly “locals”, is steeped in history and is the second oldest city in America. It is “The Gateway” to Cumberland Island, a “U.S. National Seashore” park notably known as the wedding site of John F. Kennedy, Jr. and for its Wild Horses that roam the Island. Ferries leave/return twice daily from the water front in Saint Marys. The waterways of Saint Marys offer great boating, canoeing, and fishing and we have no traffic lights or traffic jams! Saint Marys is also centrally located between Savannah, GA (90 miles to our north) and Jacksonville, FL (20 miles south), and the oldest city in the United States, Saint Augustine, FL (81 miles south) as well as all the coastal cities along the Atlantic Coast, from Tybee Island, Sea Island, St. Simons Island, and Jekyll Island, GA to our north; to Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island, Jacksonville Beach, Ormond Beach, and Daytona Beach, FL south. Orlando, FL, home to Disney World, Sea World, and Universal Studio Theme parks, is also an easy 3 hour drive from Saint Marys! Saint Marys is host to several festivals and events throughout the year including our Rock Shrimp Festival; Hay Days with Town Scarecrow Stroll and “Ghost Story Tours”; Christmas White Lighting, Merchants Open House and Tour of Homes; Mardi Gras Festival and Ball, and newly selected as the premier location for 'Lovetown USA' series, to be viewed on the 'OWN' (Oprah Winfrey Network) in the 2012. A peaceful and beautiful vacation !!!!!!
A peaceful and beautiful vacation !!!!!!
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Captains Quarters. The surroundings were beautiful and peaceful. Owners Don and Linda made our stay like we were at home. I would go back again in a heartbeat and plan to do so. I would recommend this property to anyone. Definately, the best rental in St. Marys. They make you not want to go home.

Owner response: Dear Linda and Steve, Thank you so much for your generous review AND for staying with us! We thoroughly enjoyed having you stay without and found ourselves missing you after you left! I even saw a truck a day or two after you left and told Don I thought you had returned! We also want to thank you for your sweet card and note and for the ice cream sandwiches. Donald is working his way through them and I even had part of one last night! We also found your bath robe. Do you want me to mail it to you? Just send me the address! I will be happy to send it. We also have the pooper scouper. We just stuck it in the garage. Take care and let me know about the robe. Thank you again for your visit! Linda and Don
Third fantastic visit!!
Third fantastic visit!!
After staying in the Casey-Collier house for the month of November, 2012 and in the Commissary in March/April, 2013, we did not have a moment of hesitation in returning to stay at the Commissary once more in August. This property has become our home away from home (we are Canadians) while our winter house is being built in St. Marys and Linda and Don have become close friends. The interior of the buildings are immaculate, the grounds are beautifully landscaped and manicured and Don is frequently present to maintain the property and add comedic banter to brighten each day. He is also a pet lover and consequently our Berner loved to greet him whenever he was around. One should never have any hesitation in booking this vacation property, sight unseen, as its idyllic location and fantastic amenities are to die for, especially the central air conditioning, which we tremendously appreciated as we are not used to Georgia's hot weather. We love our home but we can honestly say that staying in these premises is as good as or perhaps better than home because of the appealing surroundings and many historic and/or fascinating attractions available in and around St. Marys. Certainly our stays in Linda and Don's vacation rental have only solidified our love of this area and cemented our decision to winter here for the indefinite future. TRY THIS PLACE, YOU'LL LIKE IT !!

Owner response: Dear Sheryl and Stan, Don and I can't begin to tell you how much we appreciate your very kind and gracious review! You put so much time and thought in your review -- you really should be a writer! It is, by far, the nicest review anyone has ever given us and we are forever grateful for your kindness, and of course for all of your business! In addition, we love and value your friendship! Can't wait for your return visit! Thank you both so much. Linda and Don
Fantastic property and excellent location
Fantastic property and excellent location
Our family had a fantastic reunion at this property. The location is perfect because you can walk right into town and catch the Cumberland Island ferry as well as have dinner. The kitchen was well stocked and had the necessary equipment for making your own meals. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were large. The view of the marsh is incredible with amazing sunrises and sunsets.

Memorable July 4
Memorable July 4
My sister and I were lucky enough to retire and get our Medicare just before July 1. What a wonderful excuse for a week at Saint Marys! I know we never could have found a more perfect place than the Collier-Casey house. Being a fan of historic properties this was a wonderful choice. Along with husbands, niece and 2 Boston's, we spent an enchanting week on the island. Great seafood dinner at Lang's, breakfast at the Cedar Cafe, and lunch at the Blue Goose were treats. A day trip to Cumberland Island and beautiful fireworks topped the week, along with lazy afternoons in the porch swings! Can't wait to return. Linda and Don are most charming hosts. Thanks so much!

Owner response: Lydia -- thank you so much for taking the time to records such a nice review of your stay with us. I Also received one from Linda and you were both so gracious with your comments. We appreciate your business and as I told Linda, you left the house in absolutely perfect condition. It was obvious you went above and beyond in your efforts to leave the house very clean and orderly and while appreciated, you did much more than we would ever expect. We would welcome your return visit! Thank you again. Linda and Don
Wonderful Fourth of July Vacation
Wonderful Fourth of July Vacation
My sister and I, along with husbands, daughter, and 2 Boston Terriers spent the week of July 4th at the Collier-Casey house and had a spectacular time! The home is beautiful, filled with wonderful antiques and all of the modern comforts of home. The views of the marsh, the intercoastal waterway, Cumberland Island and Fernandina Beach, Florida are amazing. The porches, complete with chairs and swings, are great for reading and catching up with the family. The owners were very helpful even sharing chairs while we all watched the St. Marys 4th of July parade. An easy walk to downtown for restaurants, shopping and the ferry to Cumberland Island. This place was perfect and we hope to return soon!

Owner response: Linda -- what a thoughtful, kind, and generous review of the Casey-Collier House. It was so nice of you to take the time to write such a glowing review and we certainly appreciate it! I have intended to send YOU and Lydia an email to thank you for your obvious "over-the-top" clean up of the house before you left. I can honestly say that it has never been left in such perfect shape. That was unnecessary, but very thoughtful of you, as well. We would love and welcome you as our guests again and look forward to it! Take care and continue to enjoy your retirement. Thank you again for staying with us and your kindness! Linda and Don
What a wonderful property and lovely town that was all dressed up with white lights for Christmas. The house was clean, well stocked and the beds were out of this world. What a wonderful way to start the day with the beautiful sun rises out the kichen window. We were there the week of Christmas and the house was warm. The weather was mild but had a couple of really cold nights. We took the ferry to Cumberland Island 2 days and if you are in St Mary's you have to visit. We are planning on coming back in the spring and camping on the island. Don and Linda are wonderful hosts and available to answer any questions you might have. The only time we ate out was at St Mary's Seafood, the food was good but it took a long time to get it. Lovely town, wonderful house and a good time was had!!

Owner response: Bobbie, your review is so appreciated and so well written. You are so kind to take the time to write the review and to be so generous with your compliments about the property, town, and Cumberland Island. We hope you will let us know when you come for your camping trip in the Spring because we absolutely must meet you "in person"! Happy New Year to you, Nancy and Michael! Best wishes, Linda and Don
St. Mary’s is a delightful historic town, and this rental property is simply perfect! We only used the car twice the week we stayed there – once to pick up groceries, and once to visit Fernandina. The rest of the week we rode the house bicycles to explore the area, and we walked to the local shops, restaurants and to the Cumberland Island Ferry. The Independence Day Celebration was so much fun, and the fireworks on the water were as good as any large city. I highly recommend day trips to Cumberland Island and dining al fresco at the restaurants on the riverfront. Though St. Mary’s is a quaint little town, we still had more to exploring to do when our time was up, and we agreed to return. We stayed in the Captain’s Quarters, and the view of the marsh is unrivaled. Its beauty is too immense to be captured in the photographs. We enjoyed the sea breeze on the balcony, watching the pink and white spoonbills congregating in the evening. The egrets, herons and ospreys were looking for snacks while sailboats played in the river beyond. Twice, in the morning, a pair of pileated woodpeckers charmed us from the lovely tropical garden. The accommodations could be featured in Southern Living Magazine. They are open, uncluttered and lovely. There was a large group in the main house while we were there, but a good separation between the main house and the Captain’s Quarters ensured that our romantic getaway was private and peaceful. Don and Linda are gracious, generous and responsive hosts with a flair for décor. I expect we will be visiting them again and again.

Owner response: Stacy -- What a wonderful review!!!! Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness and the time it took to script such a beautiful description of your visit. You should be a professional journalist! While we thoroughly enjoyed having you and John as our guests, we are even happier that your over-all vacation was so enjoyable! We sincerely hope you will visit Saint Marys and US again! Linda and Don
Our week long visit was enhanced tremendously by staying at this beautiful property. Fantastic views surround you as you enjoy morning coffee or an evening swing on the porch. Incredibly accommodating owners made an already enjoyable stay even more relaxing. Close proximity to all things St Marys has to offer. Strongly recommended.

Year Purchased: 2011
About the owner: We are Don Pierce and Linda Harris. We both retired to Saint Marys from Atlanta, GA where Don owns a high-end Antique business (now being run by his son), and Linda retired from a Commercial Real Estate brokerage firm. After seeing the Southern Living Magazine article “There’s Something about Saint Marys”, in 2006, we both came South for a visit, loved what we saw and immediately purchased property for a home. Don built our home here in 2007 and we fell in love with the town and people of Saint Marys and truly consider it “home”! In September, 2011, Don had a rare opportunity to purchase the “Collier-Casey House” which has remained in the “Casey Family” since the late 1800’s, and couldn’t resist the opportunity to own one of a rare few pieces of historic, coastal-front properties in “the village”. He spent several months doing renovations and updates so that the property could be shared with visitors to Saint Marys as a family vacation/family event destination. Having our own home locally allows us to oversee the maintenance and rental of the property and to become acquainted with our guests!
Why the Owner Chose St. Marys:
Saint Marys is our home and is such a special place, we want to share it with others!
The Unique Benefits at this Estate:
Saint Marys offers 'southern hospitality' at its best! The local people are warm, inviting, and friendly and it is not uncommon for locals to include guests in social gatherings. If you visit Saint Marys, you will love it and many decide to make it home. A visiting friend once told us 'I never thought I would want to live any where but Atlanta where my family and children are, but I'm ready to call my boss and tell him I'm not coming back'!
