Property description

Alberta Arts (Concordia) Neighborhood
(NE 30th and Killingsworth)
A perfect place really comfy and funky with everything you need for your visit. 850 sq ft
Our house is located in the heart of the Concordia neighborhood just half a block from diverse restaurants, bard, natural food grocery stores, yoga, hair salons, massage studios etc…
Famed Portland Alberta street is just a couple blocks away with a diverse selection of retail, entertainment, and more dining experiences within a loving vibrant community. Alberta offers food for every taste (vegan to carnivore), craving, popular Salt & Straw Ice Cream, and budget (PBR to wine bars). Infused with locally owned shops, cafés, bars and galleries, this Northeast Portland street is famed for its monthly Last Thursday street fair, but offers entertaining options any day of the month. We are located just two blocks away from The Kennedy School with a soaking hot tub, bar, and $3 movie theater. On the same block is our amazing local grocery New Seasons or Alberta street co. You can walk or bike though one of our numerous beautiful parks or community gardens. There are also numerous bus lines within a few blocks walk that take you all over the city or rent a zip car or car to go. We love our neighborhood for offering the diversity of all these things, but with the peace and quiet of a neighborhood and plenty of safe on street parking and quiet to listen to the birds sing.

It is a renovated private two bedroom daylight basement apartment that is 850 sq ft with your own entrance at the back of the house opening up to the garden. There are about 7 stairs to enter down to the space so keep that in mind. You walk around the side of the house to enter along a stone and grass path surrounded by swaying bamboo.
We created this space to be funky, comfortable, and fun. It offers two queen sized beds in the spacious large bedrooms plus a full pull out, a small shower bathroom with toilet and sink, kitchenette, living room area, and backyard deck to lounge on or escape the rain drops outside with extra lawn seating.
For extra guests there is a queen size futon in the living area and a full size futon in the big bedroom if needed. Please advise if you are over 4 people sleeping and we will set up the extra twin bed in big bedroom or living room bed for you.

If you need help with anything or just want a good recommendation just text us or if we are home you are welcome to knock or visit with us to make your stay in Portland and in our amazing home a good one. Unless for some reason we are traveling, we try to meet all of our guests in person to get them settled into the apartment and answer any questions that they have about restaurants and other activities in the area.
Cooking : The kitchenette has everything you need should you wish to do LIGHT cooking - fridge, two burner hot plate, microwave, blender, coffee maker, large toaster oven, all cookware and dishware as well as tea, coffee. There is also a bbq grill you are welcome to use.
You can save money by cooking in, but it'll be tempting not to with so many great restaurants nearby
Interaction with Guests: Limited interaction likely, but we enjoy meeting travelers so if your spending time lounging the yard most likely we will be as well. We live just upstairs and the spaces are connected, but you will have complete privacy with a separate entrance just in the back of the house by the garden. We do hear each other so be advised that we share vents and cooking smells and voices and travel a bit through them. But it is also homey in that way as we hear each other enjoying life.
Please try to observe the neighborhood quiet times of 10pm (11 on weekends) to 8am. Though we tend to go to sleep round 1130 so if you want to listen to some good music we have no problem with that and offer some speakers you can hook up to your computer or phone. There are also some extra space heaters if you get chilly.
WHAT'S NEARBY? You'll be close to the food and culture of NE Alberta Street and new killingsworth, but also an easy jaunt to bustling retail and and restaurants of N. Mississippi Avenue, N. Williams Avenue as well as quick buses and bike rides downtown.
GROCERY STORES: Alberta Co Op Grocery (natural foods): 15 min walk, New Seasons Market (local smiling version of Whole Foods is three blocks away as.
PARKING: Free, on-street parking is easy and right outside. No off-street parking available.
BIKING: Bike rentals are available nearby from Everybody's Bike Rentals, an 11-minute walk away on NE Wygant Street (or others, located downtown). Or bring your own bike and lock it up in the relatively secure backyard (or keep it inside if it's not too awfully muddy). As you probably know, Portland is one of the best biking cities in North America.
PUBLIC TRANSIT: TriMet bus #6 and #72 both stop one block away. The #6 will get you downtown in 24 minutes. The #72 is handy for traveling up and down nearby Alberta Street or to head west toward TriMet's MAX light rail Yellow Line. Plan your trip at TriMet's website.
CAR SHARING: Portland is home to car sharing services including Zipcar, Getaround, and Car2Go.
AIRPORT: Car: 15 minutes with no traffic
Taxi: About $25
AMTRAK or GREYHOUND : About 30 minutes via MAX Yellow Line light rail and transfer to #72 bus.
TAXES: Portland automatically collets the 11.5% local lodging tax included in your charges.
TV etc.: No cable. Instead we have a dvd and tape player as well as a plug to play music. A great video store is just a few short blocks away. Maybe read a good book from our lending library? We have numerous informative magazines and info about Portland neighborhood offerings as well as a stocked bookshelf and games. There is wireless Internet
TOWELS: Clean bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths, and kitchen towels come with your stay (and clean bed sheets, obviously). There is soap and some shower products if you forget to bring them. Please consider hanging bath towels to dry and reuse a few times.
IRON: there is an iron and board
THere is also a hair dryer and flat iron.
CHECKING IN AND OUT: We will try to be flexible about check in and out times but with bookings we might need to stick to 12 pm out and 4pm in times. Let us know if you need an extension and we will see if we can offer that.
STAYS FOR LONGER THAN ONE WEEK (MONTH): If you want to stay longer than one week be advised while your space can be a private sanctuary it is still one big house with us living upstairs. So keeping that in mind our laundry is in your space and if you stay longer than one week we will most likely need to use the washer and dryer. If so we will make sure it is ok with you on the best times to come down and do our laundry. We tend to do it once a week.
NO INDOOR SMOKING (if you desire to smoke the outdoors area is fine)
NUMBER OF GUESTS People other than the registered Guest(s) may not stay overnight in the property unless notified. Please respect our 3-person limit. Guests over 4 people are $10 a guest. Baby's under 1 exempted from that.
ENERGY CONSERVATION Please turn off all appliances when leaving the unit and only use appliances for their intended use(s).
Cleaning Fee: for every stay there is a one time cleaning fee.
Cancelation policy is 60 days prior to visit.
Please be considerate and clean up your food messes and throw away all unused perishables in the compost as well as wash any used dishes.
We use only all natural cleaners and laundry soap and while portland is very wet there is no toxins in space.
There is a bin for any used laundry by the bookcase.
Please also read directions to garbage/ recycling/ compost as Portland is very green city and we separate everything or the trash collectors will not take it.
PETS: pets are allowed but there is a $50 per pet cleaning fee. No more than one dog. You must clean up after your pets on your own in the yard and any messes they make in the space. If the animal destroys any property you are required to pay for any damages. Please do not leave your dog alone in space if they bark while you are away. If they do we will call you and have you take care of them.
SECURITY / SAFETY: While this is a safe neighborhood theft does happen and we try to avoid it. With that in mind: Please lock the exterior door when leaving or after entering the unit. The unit is privately owned; the owners are not responsible for any accidents, injuries or illness that occurs while on the premises or its facilities. The Homeowners are not responsible for the loss of personal belongings or valuables of the guest.
There is on street parking. We park there as does all of the neighborhood. It is as safe if you do not leave things in your car that want to be stolen. Remember this is a city.
We look forward to your visit to Portland and our beautiful neighborhood.

Car: Not Necessary

Neighborhood: NE 30th and Killingsworth Sts.

'A great area to go for dinner is NE 30th and Killingsworth in the Concordia neighborhood because there's a cluster of good restaurants, so if one place is crowded you can go to the next and they're all delicious, with great atmospheres and really nice people. And I appreciate that it's a neighborhood, with families out and about.

I really like a place called Wilder, which is run by an Irish expatriate. You can get great mussels and frites there, which is what I usually do. The bar takes up most of the space, and they have a very friendly bartender. It's on a corner, and there's something about a corner bar-slash-restaurant that seems to exemplify friendliness and openness. You can just drop in and feel like a regular.

Nearby is a restaurant called Nonna, which is Italian and has a pretty outdoor area, and next to that is a place called DOC, which is also Italian. And there's Beast, which has a more upscale tasting menu, and a cocktail lounge called Expatriate across the street, which Naomi Pomeroy from Beast also owns with her husband, Kyle. Usually if I go to Expatriate, I get a whiskey or bourbon drink, and the fried fish sandwich is great.'
