Alberta Arts (Concordia) Neighborhood (NE 30th and Killingsworth) A perfect place if you dont need anything fancy but really comfy and funky with everything you need for your visit.
Our house is located in the heart of the Concordia neighborhood just half a block from diverse restaurants, bard, natural food grocery stores, yoga, hair salons, massage studios etc… Famed Portland Alberta street is just a couple blocks away with a diverse selection of retail, entertainment, and more dining experiences within a loving vibrant community. Alberta offers food for every taste (vegan to carnivore), craving (foie gras, sushi, middle eastern, southern, to Thai), popular Salt & Straw Ice Cream, and budget (PBR to wine bars). Infused with locally owned shops, cafés, bars and galleries, this Northeast Portland street is famed for its monthly Last Thursday street fair, but offers entertaining options any day of the month. We are located just two blocks away from The Kennedy School with a soaking hot tub, bar, and $3 movie theater where you can enjoy a drink and food on their vintage couches. On the same block is our amazing local grocery New Seasons or Alberta street co. You can walk or bike though one of our numerous beautiful parks or community gardens. There are also numerous bus lines within a few blocks walk that take you all over the city or rent a zip car or car to go. We love our neighborhood for offering the diversity of all these things, but with the peace and quiet of a neighborhood and plenty of safe on street parking and quiet to listen to the birds sing.
ABOUT THE SPACE It is a renovated private two bedroom basement apartment with your own entrance at the back of the house opening up to the garden. There are about 7 stairs to enter down to the space so keep that in mind. You walk around the side of the house to enter along a stone and grass path surrounded by swaying bamboo. We created this space to be funky, comfortable, and fun. It offers two queen sized beds in the spacious large bedrooms plus a full pull out, a small shower bathroom with toilet and sink, kitchenette, living room area, and backyard deck to lounge on or escape the rain drops outside with extra lawn seating. For extra guests there is a queen size futon in the living area and a full size futon in the big bedroom if needed. Please advise if you are over 4 people sleeping and we will set up the extra living room bed for you.
If you need help with anything or just want a good recommendation just text us or if we are home you are welcome to knock or visit with us to make your stay in Portland and in our amazing home a good one. Unless for some reason we are traveling, we try to meet all of our guests in person to get them settled into the apartment and answer any questions that they have about restaurants and other activities in the area. Cooking : The kitchenette has everything you need should you wish to do LIGHT cooking - fridge, two burner hot plate, microwave, blender, coffee maker, large toaster oven, all cookware and dishware as well as tea, coffee. We also leave you treats :) You can save money by cooking in, but it'll be tempting not to with so many great restaurants nearby.
Interaction with Guests: Limited interaction likely, but we enjoy meeting travelers so if your spending time lounging the yard most likely we will be as well. We live just upstairs and the spaces are connected, but you will have complete privacy with a separate entrance just in the back of the house by the garden. We do hear each other so be advised that we share vents and cooking smells and voices and travel a bit through them. But it is also homey in that way as we hear each other enjoying life. Please try to observe the neighborhood quiet times of 1030pm (11 on weekends) to 6am. Though we tend to go to sleep round 1130 so if you want to listen to some good music we have no problem with that and offer some speakers you can hook up to your computer or phone. There are also some extra space heaters if you get chilly.

'A great area to go for dinner is NE 30th and Killingsworth in the Concordia neighborhood because there's a cluster of good restaurants, so if one place is crowded you can go to the next and they're all delicious, with great atmospheres and really nice people. And I appreciate that it's a neighborhood, with families out and about.
I really like a place called Wilder, which is run by an Irish expatriate. You can get great mussels and frites there, which is what I usually do. The bar takes up most of the space, and they have a very friendly bartender. It's on a corner, and there's something about a corner bar-slash-restaurant that seems to exemplify friendliness and openness. You can just drop in and feel like a regular.
Nearby is a restaurant called Nonna, which is Italian and has a pretty outdoor area, and next to that is a place called DOC, which is also Italian. And there's Beast, which has a more upscale tasting menu, and a cocktail lounge called Expatriate across the street, which Naomi Pomeroy from Beast also owns with her husband, Kyle. Usually if I go to Expatriate, I get a whiskey or bourbon drink, and the fried fish sandwich is great.'
