"For anyone looking to break away from the crowds and have a luxurious beach retreat, look no further. The home is lovely, the staff friendly and helpful, and the setting quiet and comfortable. We came with 4 people, but the house could easily hold 8, so we had room to spare. The beach is tranquil and steps from the back door. There are no other resorts around, so we had the whole beach and cove to ourselves! All of the household amenities were terrific, though the pool was still under construction and not usable, so that is the only reason it isn't (yet) a 5 star property. We wanted to get away from crowds, and this did the trick. It's a bit of a hike (40 mins drive in either direction) to get to a major city (MoBay or Ocho Rios), so this wouldn't be a good location for folks seeking nightlife, shopping or major tourist attractions."Guest: Court L. "Our stay at this villa was just fabulous! Best vacation thus far and I have traveled around quite a bit. Just myself and my hubby took this trip (ages 30-35). Tell the cab driver to stop at Scotchies in MoBay before you begin your approx hour ride to villa. Great jerk chicken and pork!!! We can start off by saying the grounds of this private property are kept in immaculate shape! Franz, the gardener is not only the landscaper but also your security as he lives on the property in his private, separate quarters and makes you feel very welcome and safe. There are also 4 dogs that assist in securing the property and I must say they are very well trained. We ate almost every meal out on the back deck; they would occasionally stroll by and they do not come near you. They spend most of their time in the front lot near Franz's quarters. Ms. Lorna is the chef and she cooked us up the best Jamaican cuisine we have ever tasted! Anything we asked she created, and did it well!! Ms. Chelsea was very attentive to our needs, fixed beds daily, cleaned up after us and assisted Ms. Lorna in the kitchen. A great group of staff at this villa!! Don't forget to tip them well as they deserve it. The villa itself is just as stated, it's got the original Jamaican feel with it's decor but all amenities are there and kept in great condition. The wifi worked well but not near the pool. It's a spacious layout, 3 bedrooms all with sea view and private, full baths and closets. The view laying in master bed to the sea every morning was bliss... you constantly hear the sound of the waves splashing against the coral shore bc it's soo close! Out in the back the grass landscape meets up to the seas edge followed by coral reef/rocks and then the beautiful sea! The pool is a great size and was always clean and ready to use. There is a public beach off the main road going back towards MoBay, it's about a 45min walk or $5 cab ride. Discovery Bay is the opposite direction and about the same distance away. There you will find restaurant and shops/supermarket. We got the Jamaican experience we were looking for on this vacation, 4th visit to this beautiful island. So for all of you who are booking this property, the owners are very nice people and both they and us as well would appreciate you keeping this vacation home in great condition as we will be retuning very soon!!"Guest: Spendsmartly Date of Stay: February 2014 Review Submitted: March 10, 2014View listing
"Linga Awile is an amazingly peaceful place. Discovery Bay has, thankfully, not yet been discovered by the mega resorts that are cloning themselves elsewhere in Jamaica. It is a place of sun, sand, warmth and welcome! Jenni was so gracious to let us arrive a day early due to the massive storm that closed down the SE US, and Casita, Cheryl and Deano gave up their day off to welcome us. It only got better from there. The kids spent hours each day in the pool and the adults Linga'd on the Veranda and Gazebo. We all swam in the warm ocean, kayaked and melted in sunshine and 85F. Around the area we enjoyed the caves, horseback riding - into the ocean no less - rafting, and a magical visit to Glistening Waters. We went to local markets and tourist markets, shopped in the local grocery store, and came home each night to a comfortable home, and amazing meals. Don't miss Casita's fried chicken, or coconut moaa, or the talapia! Cheryl kept us in dry towels and dry floors and keeps a spotless house. Deano served us coconut fresh from the tree, every meal, took care of the yard and allowed us the priviledge of getting to know him better in the evening. Moma Casita, Auntie Cheryl and Brother Deano, we have already booked the same time for next year!"Guest: Coming Back Date of Stay: February 2014 Review Submitted: February 26, 2014View listing
"We spent a marvelous 7 days at Sugar Bay Villa in Discovery Bay. It was a wonderful and amazing time overall. Upon arrival you are greeted by the heart-warming staff with a fresh towel and some drinks to cool-off. As soon as you step into the house, you are in paradise. The 5 bedroom villa has an open lay-out with a patio that looks out over the infinity pool and ocean. The patio is also adjacent to a bar where Ted, your concierge, will create any drink that you desire! The staff are some of the friendliest people you will ever meet. They are all so kind, wonderful, and always fulfill your every need. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are catered and special request are always welcomed. The way the staff looks after you truly feels like you are at a 5 star resort! They are always giving special attention to details that make every dining experience practically perfect. During our week at the villa, we were celebrating my wife’s birthday and the same truly made it amazing for her. They set-up a table under the poolside cabana and surrounded it with flaming tiki torches. The whole atmosphere was incredible and they kept the champagne flowing all night long! My wife and I vacationed with 4 other couples so each had their own room. The rooms were extremely well-kept, spacious, and had wonderful views to wake-up to every morning. Finally, the convenience and comfort of having your own private beach was uncomparable to any vacation we have ever been on. The beach is enclosed in a small Laguna so that there are never any major waves. We enjoyed snorkeling, kayaking, and paddle-boarding daily at the villa. Also, we had a couple that enjoyed playing tennis on the private tennis court that was on the Villa property as well. Overall, our stay was unbelievable and highly recommended to anyone who wants to enjoy a luxurious accommodation in Jamaica."Guest: Ivan F. Discovery Bay Travel Tips
Discovery Bay Beach Rentals with Cliff Divers
From cliff diving to secluded beaches, Discovery Bay beach rentals have it all. Planning your next vacation is easy when you choose Discovery Bay villas because you know the warm waters and tropical haven are waiting for you. Jamaica travel is all about the scuba diving, fishing, and surfing. Each day, you can be delighted by the professional cliff divers jumping into the bay or the sea creatures winking below the waves.
Christopher Columbus and Discovery Bay Villas
Discovery Bay is in Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica, though it was originally named Dry Harbour Mountains by Columbus. There is a dispute as to where Christopher Columbus landed in 1494. Some believe he landed east of Discovery Bay at Sevilla la Nueva. He chose the name Dry Harbour because underground cracks in the limestone feed the bay rather than rivers. When you rent Discovery Bay villas, you have the chance to visit the mines of the area that have led to the wealth of Jamaica. Jamaica is also highly dependent on tourism so Discovery Bay beach rentals are often affordable compared to other Caribbean Islands.
Jamaica Travel near the Marine Laboratory
Jamaica travel is mostly about scuba diving and the Discovery Bay Marine Laboratory. The laboratory was founded in 1965 by marine researchers to monitor and study the coral reefs of Jamaica. The reef is home to numerous species of fish, some sea turtles, and a few species of shark. Even if you do not enjoy diving, the snorkeling from the beach of your Discovery Bay villas will be an experience to remember.
Discovery Bay Beach Rentals by Green Grotto Caves
If you prefer land to sea, Jamaica travel can offer you the Green Grotto Caves. Legend says the caves were a hideaway for Spanish settlers trying to escape the British. This adventure, which is minutes from your Discovery Bay beach rentals, will take you into the past as well as offer a geological lesson. The caves are limestone with stalactites and stalagmites running throughout the caverns leading to an underground lake.
