  • Beyond our expectations!

"Casa Culebra was far beyond what we expected for our holiday!!! We will definitely return to Nicaragua, San Juan del Sur and Balcones de Majagual:) The Remax folks in town set us up with Francesco (he is a gem!!!!) to pick us up from the airport and drive our rental car out to San Juan. Upon arrival, we stopped in to the Remax office where were we greeted and promptly toured around town. It was perfect AND we had a chance to pop in to stock up on goodies for our first breakfast. Upon arriving at Balcones we were again reminded that we were in good hands. The staff are incredible and make you feel welcome and safe at all times. We were given the tour of our house - and it was far beyond our expectations! Far bigger than we thought, spotless and with TONS of kitchen bits & bobs. Our 11 days were perfect. Truly. (ok fine, we had to kill a scorpion but really whatddya expect? it is the jungle after all but we will just add that to the list of life experiences in our back pocket!) But really, this place was a slice of heaven. The house, the beaches, the kind people, the food - it was awesome. At any time, we felt we could contact the Remax folks in town for any support or with any questions. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to have a great holiday with the opportunity to stay in the beauty of the jungle."

  • A Relaxing Vacation Off The Beaten Path

"Our recent stay at Villa Pavela met expectations of a leisurely vacation in a quiet semi-rural area, just moments away from a beautiful secluded beach. The house was exactly what we envisioned, bright and airy with a well stocked kitchen opening onto an inviting living and dining area. We whiled away hot afternoon hours reading in the hammocks and evenings started with the vision of spectacular sunsets. Air conditioning was available in the bedrooms but at night with the brisk winds, open windows and the ceiling fan in the master bedroom we slept comfortably, although occasionally awakened by the outbursts of howler monkeys. Eliza the caretaker kept the house sparkling clean and prepared delicious Nicaraguan meals while her partner Levys maintained the beautiful garden that surrounded us with a riot of exotic flowers and plants. As in many developing countries the electricity would occasionally fail for awhile but Eliza was quick to connect the backup system that adequately met our needs during those periods. Playa Remanso provided many refreshing swims each day in crystal clear water that we often had entirely to ourselves. We enjoyed walks along the playa and up through the hills to Playa Tamarindo, the virtually deserted beach just to the south. Just south of Tamarindo, easily accessed by a 15 minute drive from the Villa, is the spectacular beach of Playa Hermosa. After paying a small entrance fee you can spend the day enjoying the beach where little palapas provide shade and the restaurant serves tasty quesadillas and cold cerveza. The short drive into San Juan del Sur brought us to a bustling centre where we shopped for delicious fresh vegetables and fruit in the mercado, picked up artisanal bread at Pan de Vida, local coffee at El Gato Negro and fresh fish, shrimp and langosta from the fishermen’s kiosks located at the southern end of Paseo del Rey. Pali grocery store near the turnoff to Playa Remanso, stocked groceries and supplies, dairy products and fresh meat which we easily transported to Villa Pavela in the coolers provided. Ela, one of the owners, responded quickly to our inquiries and was a wealth of local information. We would recommend renting a vehicle for trips into San Juan del Sur and to explore the beautiful coastline north and south of town. For a complete break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life Villa Pavela provides a magical retreat we hope to visit again soon."

  • Unobstructed Beauty

"We stayed a week at this lovely property. Chuck and Lefty are fantastic hosts who try to make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible. Lefty will sunbathe with you on the deck, and Chuck has a lot of local information, so if you are looking for things to do, or want to know more about the area be sure to ask him. I didn't ever feel unsafe or leery in the area... the only thing that startled me was the sound the howler monkeys make (I had never heard anything like it before). The house is comfortable with no need for A/C even on hot days; the breeze is constant and keeps it cool. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to make meals (just add food from Pali or the local SJDS mercado). The views are unparalleled and breathtaking. My husband and I traveled with our kids (12 & 17), and another family of 3. The house easily accommodated all of us without feeling crowded. We walked to Playa Madera a few times and enjoyed the trip (ask Chuck about the shortcut; it will make your life much easier) We will definitely recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in this area."

  • Amazing Place. Catalina was wonderful!

"Went for a yearly trip with two of my friends to San Juan del Sur. We could not have had a better time. All of the people we met were amazing, and the house was beautiful (way too big for 3 people). The infinity pool has a great view, and the hammocks got a lot of use. The only thing I might change would be to put steps up to the pool as the steep path could be a little slippery if you are as uncoordinated as I am. Catalina is the chef that the owner recommended for us, and she was fantastic. She always went the extra mile whenever we needed anything. Don't let her fool you, she speaks English pretty well! Jess who lives in the casita near the house was also really helpful and fun. I highly reccomend Casa Suenos, and would stay there again if I ever come back."
