  • Go go No Bananas Bungalow

"Stay here! The City of Key Colony Beach is the perfect location in the middle of the keys. Away from the crazy of Key Largo and Islamadora. We flew into Fort Lauderdale, rented a car and drove down, making stops at National Parks along the way. We stocked up on groceries for the week at Walmart in Florida City, but replenished our fresh fruits and veggies locally at the Winn Dixie. In a pinch we even found the closest Walgreens also had exactly what we needed. We were able to take easy morning trips either north or south and then enjoy Inch Beach all afternoon. We loved using Inch Beach because it was clean, quiet, and we brought our own cooler of snacks and beverages. While we could've walked the short distance to Inch Beach we found easier to drive with the cooler, beach toys, and teen in tow. NBB is exactly as pictured. Cute, clean, and smells inviting (I know, sounds strange but good smell is important). We found absolutely everything we needed including kabob skewers! Neighborhood is safe and neighbors are very nice. We enjoyed coffee each morning on the patio overlooking the canal. Saw a manatee - so cool! Went for a walk, easily accessible to everything. We were able to make a day trip to the Dry Tortugas, morning trips to: Key West, Bahia Honda State Park, Sombrero Beach, John Pennekamp State Park, and Theater of the Seas. We would stay here again!"

  • Wonderful escape from Winter

"What a great way for us to escape the winter! There were so many things about this rental that were perfect for us. All of the rooms are big and open/airy. Lots of space, even in the bathrooms. There are ceiling fans in the bedrooms, dining room, and living room. The kitchen was equipped with everything a cook could want. Lots of pots, pans, baking dishes, and even gadgets! We brought some "kitchen essentials" with us and never needed to unpack our box -- everything was already there. Things you simply don't expect in a rental were provided here -- enough flatware for several meals and more than a dozen lovely wine glasses. There is plenty of counter space for the most ambitious cook. There is a new Weber gas grill on the patio, but do be aware that renters need to provide the propane. If you are lucky, there will still be some leftover from the previous renters. Since we were there for the month, we used the grill for many meals. Being on the canals provides the entertainment of passing boats, iguanas, and pelicans. This location provides morning sun and afternoon shade. It was great to be able to sit on the patio with morning coffee or an afternoon libation and surf the Internet on the provided WIFI. We loved going to the Cabana Club for the pool, hot tub, and beach. Having a full bar and food service there made it a regular day's event. Key Colony is very friendly to walkers and bicycles. It is possible to walk or bicycle pretty much anywhere on the island. We regularly traveled this way to the pool, the local post office, or out to eat. Some of the places we enjoyed include: Sparky's for fish tacos and happy hour wings/shrimp. The food from Cabana Breezes that is served at Cabana Club Tarpon Lodge for happy hour appetizer and drink specials Fish Tales for lunch, great fish/seafood buys, and prime steaks for the grill Marathon Lady for a fishing trip The Hurricane for a great $5 fish sandwich at lunch Burdines for a killer tuna melt You can't miss going to Sunset beach to watch the sun go down and join the locals in a serenade about how great it is to be in Marathon Key -- courtesy of local musician John Bartus. This rental provides the serene quiet of Key Colony Beach, but the convenience of grocery, drug stores, and many restaurants are within a few miles in the rest of Marathon Key. What a great home away from home for us!"
