Breathtaking 180° views from a 10 acre mountain wooded lot. Enjoy all the attractions of downtown Saluda, just 4 miles away, with all the privacy and benefits of our spacious property. Step out your front door to enjoy miles of hiking and mountain biking without needing to get in your car. No effort was spared in creating a comfortable & stylish environment, perfect for unwinding. Take in the views, watch the sunset, soak your stresses away in the hot tub & relax by the firepit. Much thought went into creating the Hilltop House.

From the custom crafted gourmet kitchen, the downstairs game room to the handmade one of a kind art pieces.... the Hilltop House is sure to inspire and delight. #1 Rule: Don't forget to be awesome! Life is too short to get caught up in the stresses of everyday life. The Hilltop house is designed to help you unwind and focus on what really matters. You'll have 10 acres all to yourself and stunning views of both the sunrise and set from the oversized porch. A bottle of wine will be awaiting your arrival to help you settle in & enjoying your stay. There's a fire pit and adirondack chairs just waiting for you to take in the 180 degree views. You can grill out and soak in a hot tub from the back deck overlooking the mountains. All without a single neighbor in sight. The house is fully stocked with movies, games, toys, books, corn hole and ping pong. The Hilltop House is electric car friendly and has a 240 volt/50 amp outlet.

We’ve long loved the mountains of North Carolina and hope you discover the particular charm of this area too. For a tiny town, Saluda has much to offer: art galleries, tubing, kayaking, zip lining, biking, hiking, a bakery, coffee shop, bars serving local beers and wine, several great restaurants, old-fashioned grocery and hardware stores, playgrounds and so much more! With Asheville, Hendersonville and Greenville just a short drive away, as well as the Blue Ridge Parkway, Pisgah National Forest, and the Green River Gorge, it has something for everyone.

Saluda town center is just a 4 mile drive away and boasts excellent restaurants and shops. Asheville is only a 40 minute drive with endless shopping and top-notch dining. Sierra Nevada Brewery is only 30 minutes and well worth the visit. Overmountain Vineyards is a stone throw away and makes award winning wines. For the outdoor enthusiasts, there's the Green River Adventures for kayaking/river adventures: as well as the The Gorge Zip Line:

Without even needing to get into your car, you can access the Palmetto Trail which has a great 6.6mile hike (Poinsett Reservoir). The house comes stocked with games, puzzles and is super kid friendly.

There is ample parking for 5+ cars.

It is our goal to ensure you have an enjoyable stay. Communication is key so we will be available via phone, email and text for anything. Although we are not located in Saluda, we have many "helping hands" that can be available in person if needed.

Guests will have access to all of the house with the exception of a locked "owner's closet". This is done simply to create space for guests.

There is a long gravel driveway and two gates leading up to the house. The first gate, off the road, has a lock. They key is located in a lockbox. The code will be provided after booking. The second gate is unlocked.

There is an electric solar-powered fence designed to keep the wild pigs out, since they will root up the yard.

The front door has a keypad for which the code will be provided after booking. We are happy to accommodate and early check in or check out upon availability for an additional $50.

About Danielle Patterson

We are a family of 5.... Meet Team Paterson:

Warren, awesome dad

Danielle, rockstar mom

Aribella, free-spirited 4 year old

Ellerie, spicy (yet extremely lovable) 2 year old

Alister, world's happiest baby

and who could forget Floyd.... our rescue wonder dog!

We live for adventure, travel, good food, the great outdoors, camping, trail running and being creative. We are always on the go whether it's building , growing, creating, cooking or scheming. Life is too short to have it any other way. We love seeking out unique spaces that creating memories.

Danielle Patterson purchased this house in 2017

Why Danielle Patterson chose Saluda

We have always loved Saluda. It has been our stop off for years on our way to Cascade Lake where we used to camp. Since the campground closed three years ago, we discovered Orchard Lake Campground (which ironically is located directly across from the entrance to our gravel driveway!). Being outdoor lovers, Saluda has always drawn. There are endless hiking trails, water adventures, mountain biking and more. In addition the downtown is extremely charming and has several unique food and beverage offerings; The Wildflour Bakery, Purple Onion and the Green River Brew Depot are our favorites ;)

We came across a posting for an available home and made the 2 hours drive from where we live to have a look. Although the initial home was beautiful, it was not on a great piece of property. We love spending time outdoors and are therefore very specific about the property and the orientation of the sun. Hearing this, our realtor immediately thought to bring us to what we now know as "The Hilltop House". Driving up the long gravel driveway and seeing that it was directly across from the Orchard Park Campground (which we LOVE), we knew we had a winner. Once up the driveway, we couldn't help falling deeper in love with the home as we took in the views and experienced the incredible craftsmanship of the home. We love to cook and the kitchen is completely customized. There's a gas range, dual ovens, two sinks and an industrial refrigerator.... much nicer than what we have at home! Furthermore, it's completely stocked with state of the art appliances and very nice cookware.

We also love open floor plans and this home has just that as well as vaulted ceilings and plenty of room to breathe. Having children, it's important to have a space to let the kids play and the HUGE downstairs 'gameroom' offers just that. The bathrooms are spacious and the house as a whole has a feeling of luxuriousness.

Hot tub on the deck overlooking the views

Ping pong table

Corn hole

Games, toys, movies and books

Beautifully maintained landscape

Sleep Number king size mattress in the master bedroom

Brand new Casper queen sized mattress in downstairs bedroom

Family Friendly.... Tons of toys, books, puzzles & DVDs for kids

I spent last weekend on a quick family retreat to Saluda, a tiny mountain town (pop: 713) 30 miles south of Asheville. From Charlotte, it’s a quick, easy trip west on Highway 74 but feels like it’s a world away.

Saluda is slow and quiet, especially in the winter off season when some shops have limited hours or are closed altogether due to reduced tourist traffic. But you’ll find plenty to keep you busy for a weekend. Main Street has a handful of gift shops, restaurants and unique old general stores as well as a bakery, coffee shop and craft beer bar. There are also nearby hiking trails, zip lines and tubing adventures.

We stayed at The Hilltop House, a gorgeous Airbnb rental courtesy of the property’s very generous Agenda-reading owners. Although we had planned to travel alone, my husband and I loved the house so much we immediately invited my brother and his family to come join us when we walked in the door.

Beautifully decorated, spacious mountain home

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful family reunion with our two grown children and their spouses and our grandson. The house looked professionally decorated and almost new. It was very clean! The kitchen was very well-appointed, including 2 kitchen sinks and 2 ovens, as well as a built in, (Sub zero type), refrigerator, and spices galore! Truly a dream kitchen! We only wish we could have stayed longer. (Loved the quaint little town of Saluda, very close to the house!) All the towels, bed linens, and bed comforters were top quality! Our grandson, 5 years old, loved the children's toy closet on the lower level. The house is very child friendly! We loved the fire pit and Adirondack chairs outside, as we roasted marshmallows and made s'mores! We will definitely try to stay there again!

Sunrise from the front porch and sunset on the back porch

  • 5 of 5

Our family, 7 adults and toddler, had more than enough room in this lovely home. The views were specular. The home was well appointed, clean and had enough linens to accommodate us all. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, glasses, and cookware.

We enjoyed Saluda and the surrounding area during the day and the large hottub in the evenings. We never made it into Asheville, no need-we enjoyed our quiet family time playing board games or around the fire pit.

This didn't cause us much of a problem, however the wifi/internet is a bit slow. We didn't have to worry about folks with their faces in their phones. We just enjoy the peace and beauty of the area! The home has a satellite dish but we didn't even watch TV, we only used it for satellite radio for music and really enjoyed our time with our adult children.

We vacation with our family 1-2 times per year, this was one of our best vacations!

Owner's Response: It warms my heart to hear that this was one of your best family vacations. We do hope that you will return to the Hilltop House as a tradition. The silver lining about the slow internet is that Google fiber is coming within the next 6 months so hopefully that will be solved by your next stay. Thank you for being such wonderful guests!

Wonderful Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here for a few days! Close to Saluda and hiking, but a peaceful place to get away from it all. Loved the sunset view from the hot tub! Would love to come again!

We had a great stay with friends at The Hilltop House. We kept a fire going and enjoyed the views of the mountains outside as it was very windy and cold. Our hostess was great! We would love to come back!

Beautiful home, spectacular views, and wonderful host!

  • 5 of 5

I can’t say enough about how lovely this place is! This was our first time in Saluda and we couldn’t have enjoyed our time more. The home is beautifully decorated, the views are incredible (I’ve got to come back in the fall!) and Danielle, the host, is just precious. We had everything we needed—fully stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, fire pit for s’mores, games for kids, and close to downtown and lots of hiking trails. Danielle even put up a Christmas tree for us so we enjoyed some holiday decor as well. We really had a wonderful time here and hope to come back soon!!!

A few things to note:
We are animal lovers and would like to make the home pet friendly. Because we are new to this, we are asking that people tell us a little more about their pets so we can approach it on a case by case basis.

The Hilltop House has a septic system which means there is no garbage disposal and that it is very important to be mindful of what you flush down the toilet. We ask that you only use the "septic friendly" TP provided (and purchase this type it if needed). We use well water which is delicious to drink, but it takes a minute to heat up and we only recommend that one person shower at a time.
