About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8 in beds King, Queen, 4 Twin)

Round Mountain Lodge, a charming mountain home perched above Lake Jocassee on the edge of Gorges State Park, provides an amazing retreat from life's hectic pace. It is only 2 miles from 'The Wilds Camp and Conference Center' and Georges State Park, Frozen Creek access. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE VRBO "AVERAGE" COST IS WRONG. THEY COMPUTE THE AVERAGE COST PER NIGHT FOR A WEEKLY STAY. WE DISCOUNT IT FOR A FULL WEEK STAY. THANKS.

Set on the south side of Round Mountain between the quaint mountain towns of Brevard and Lake Toxaway, Round Mountain Lodge is not simply a house in the mountains, but a 'mountain home.'

The main living area boasts a cathedral ceiling and mountain views from a bank of south-facing windows. The fireplace (not the primary heat source) dominates the living area. Warm wood graces interior walls as do some amazing quilts by a local artist. The downstairs bedroom holds a king sized bed; another large upstairs room boasts a comfy queen. All bedrooms have down comforters. The Bunk Room holds two sets of bunk beds, making Round Mountain Lodge the ideal lodging choice for two families who wish to vacation together.

The den, home to twin trundle beds, contains family games, puzzles and media equipment. Children can watch a DVD or satellite TV while adults share conversation in the quiet of the living area. Peruse the books in the 'Loft Library' or venture onto the rock outcropping below the porch to enjoy the scenery or make s'mores in the firepit.

Watch the fog roll up the mountains from the porch swing. Discover one of several waterfalls within walking distance to the Lodge. All ingredients for the perfect mountain retreat are found amidst the tranquility and mountain splendor of the Blue Ridge Escarpment.

One of only 40 homes on the 1200 acres on Round Mountain, the Lodge boasts spacious rooms, comfortable and ample furnishings, and amenities that define it as a home rather than a 'rental unit'. This beautifully decorated home is amply supplied with accoutrements for the perfect mountain get-away. In any season, Round Mountain Lodge will call you back again and again.

About David & Julie Rotholz

We purchased this house because we wanted to give our two children, ages 6 and 9 at the time of purchase, a 'mountain experience' and the opportunities to hike, enjoy nature, and explore all that the woods and the mountains have to offer. When we first looked at this home, we knew it had all the charm, comfort and access to the wonders of the mountains that we were looking for. Although we're less than a half hour to Brevard, we feel like we are truly far away from the demands and pressures of life.

Why David & Julie Rotholz chose Brevard

This mountain home is truly unique. It has the comfort, charm, and views that provide a relaxing environment from the moment you enter. Each season has its special attractions.

What makes this house unique

The house is large enough to accommodate two families (or one large one). We limit rental parties to no more than eight. Since there is flexibility with beds and bedrooms, it's easy to accommodate individual needs and preferences.

Perfect in every way

Booked this trip last minute escaping hurricane Irma. Couldn't have chosen better if I had researched for a year. Cabin was clean well-thought-out and area is beautiful. Lots of walking trails. My kids want to move here . Absolutely recommend. May make this a yearly vacation

Peaceful and Relaxing

  • 4 of 5

The house is very nicely appointed and stocked. We loved how quiet and beautiful the surroundings were when we stayed at the home. We went in July and it was pretty warm there. The room air conditioners were not enough to cool the house and it was too humid for the whole house fan. I am sure it is quite comfortable during other times of the year. The owners were extremely helpful and ensured we had everything needed for a great getaway.

Beautiful mountain cabin with a gorgeous view and good proximity to downtown Brevard and hiking

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our weekend up at this cabin on the mountain. My husband and I were looking for a place to stay where we can enjoy nature, but still be close enough to enjoy what downtown Brevard had to offer. This place was perfect. The cabin was very comfortable, with an absolutely amazing view! We enjoyed breakfast and coffee on the porch in the morning, and grilled out on the lower porch in the evening. The kitchen had everything we needed, including a waffle maker! The owners are very organized and very responsive to any questions. We brought our dog who enjoyed the property as well. We took a day trip over to Gorges state park to do some hiking, which was great and only a 20 or 30 minute drive. Downtown Brevard is also a 20 or 30 minute drive. We are usually big Asheville travelers, but Brevard is our new favorite place! Not nearly as crowded and with just as much character. We would definitely stay in this cabin again!

Owner's Response: We are always glad to learn that our guests have enjoyed their time at our mountain home. The views, comforts indoors and the porches outside are some of the things we love about it too! Thanks for your kind words and we hope to have you back as guests. D & J

Wonderful, family friendly cabin with very thoughtful owners!

  • 5 of 5

This is wonderful, family friendly property with great access to waterfall hikes. The kitchen is fully equipped, and the owners even include a map of the cabinets so needed items (like the glass part of the blender) can be located easily. We cooked dinner most nights, and I was never short of anything I needed (I did bring my own slow cooker so dinner would be ready after a full day of hiking).

Being close to the IGA in Rosman and the full service grocery stores in Brevard meant that forgetting an ingredient wasn't a disaster. There are also many basic items in the pantry that are available if needed. Certainly made things easier.

Though this is a private community, there are no neighbors close enough to make you feel like you aren't secluded.

The basement is ideal for kids on rainy days, though the owners generously allow use of ponchos and rain gear for those not fully prepared for wet days. We hiked at Dupont State Park on a very rainy day using some of their gear. It was great not to be too housebound.

We had one day warm enough to eat out on the downstairs deck. It's a lovely spot.

Overall, this is a very comfortable vacation spot. You can relax and enjoy the views and the mountain activities. We hope to return.
