About Suzy & Joe Kane
We enjoyed our cottage every summer for 1 to 2 weeks every year, starting in 1985. It wasn't until 2013 that we moved to Tenants Harbor, after spotting a year-round house for sale on the same street as our cottage. We surprised ourselves by making the decision so quickly; we had lived more than a decade on Peaks Island, Maine. We had always enjoyed the beauty of Tenants Harbor and have learned what a wonderful year-round community it is. The views from our street and throughout the town change with the season, time of day, and weather and are a constant source of pleasure.
Suzy & Joe Kane purchased this Cottage in 1985
Why Suzy & Joe Kane chose Saint George
We were looking for a good location and something we could afford. We love the slow pace of Tenants Harbor and its proximity to the excellent shops, services, museums, and other entertainment in the towns of Rockland, Rockport, and Camden. Since 1985, we've made some improvements, most notably the screened porch, the addition of a shower, and a thermostatically controlled gas fireplace, but we've kept the simple interior.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cozy interior and the outdoor spaces; the views of the surrounding woods and the limited views of the harbor across the street. We also love the street we're on which hugs the harbor all the way to the center of town. You can walk to the center of town in 15 minutes or less (about 1/2 mile) with beautiful views of the harbor with the sailboats and lobster boats and small islands. (Kayak Rentals are available through Port Clyde Kayaks, 207-372-8100, and will deliver free.) The cottage has many windows so there is cross ventilation and many views. The furnishings are attractive and comfortable, including the mattresses, and in good repair. The wi-fi signal is strong; the cable service provides about 100 channels, and a DVD player is provided. The gas fireplace, operated by thermostat, is perfect for cool evenings or cool fall days. The screened porch enables you to be, in effect, outdoors, but protected from the elements (in case of rain). It's a lovely place to read or eat a meal. The boat house provides good storage if you bring bikes or kayaks. We are nearby to assist with any questions you might have.

The cottage was exactly as pictured. It was clean, well equipped and lovely. The screened in porch was my very favorite feature. The owners provided excellent customer service. I would recommend this cottage to anyone who loves the ocean, the woods and rustic beautiful cottages. We will absolutely be back!
Thank you for your kind review. We were so pleased that you enjoyed the cottage as much as you did, including the screened in porch. We look forward to welcoming you back.
A perfect Maine cottage!
The cottage was charming and comfortable, and the gas "woodstove" was perfect for taking the chill out on cool mornings. The screened porch in the back of the cabin was a delightfully peaceful place to sit and read. The cottage was very well appointed and had everything you might need, right down to beach toys for the kids. The location was great, and our kids had a terrific time riding their bikes to the harbor and the store.
Suzy and Joe stopped by to see how things were going, and were extremely helpful in making sure we had everything we needed. They truly went above and beyond in the hospitality department.... We thoroughly enjoyed staying in their cottage, and will likely be staying there again next summer!
Thanks so much for your review. We've very pleased you enjoyed your stay and found the cottage met your needs. We look forward to seeing you again!
The simple life
My family and I stayed in this adorable cottage for 3 weeks this summer. It was everything we'd hoped for. It's a classic Maine cottage on a nice piece of well tended land (great for building fairy houses). The cottage has a very sunny front porch (perfect for that morning cup of coffee) and a lovely screened porch for playing cards or reading in the afternoons. The location is excellent. Just a short drive to Drift Inn Beach or to Port Clyde, or a leisurely walk to the Tenants Harbor general store. There are windows on all sides, so there's always a breeze. It's also a cozy place to spend a rainy day. Rockport, Camden, Thomaston, Owl's Head, and Spruce Head are a short drive away. Overall a very special cottage.
Thank you for the lovely review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay as much as you did.
This is what a Maine vacation should be.
As one who travels fairly often, I have found there a certain "magical" places that call me back, and Tenants Harbor is one of those places. The experience of being on the beautiful Maine coast is thoroughly enhanced by staying in this charming, comfortable cottage. It rewards you with its authentic back-in-time feel, yet with all the necessary conveniences of home. One huge benefit is the screen porch which has the feeling of positioning one in the majestic Maine woods surrounded with dabbled sun light through the branches. From the front deck one can view the water with its sparkling gems of light as you enjoy your morning coffee and contemplate activities for the day. Walk toward town and be mesmerized by the scenery...it's captivating! View the night sky with horizon to horizon stars. Make a wish.
I return here annually for my "Maine fix"...whether kayaking, sightseeing, indulging in a variety of fine restaurants or to surrender to the breath taking scenery.
This is a very special place where one can experience the Maine coast in a lovely, comfortable cottage. That's why I return year after year after year.
Wonderful Vacation Cottage
We almost hate to share our feelings about this nice, cozy summer cabin in Tenant’s Harbor. If more people find their way to this wonderful cottage, it may be difficult for us our to book our two weeks next summer. We wish the thank the Kane’s for the great job they did representing the cottage and all of it’s amenities on the website. It was everything they said it was and more. We were not disappointed in our vacation choice.
The screened-in porch was a definite advantage to us. We found it to be enjoyable during rainy days, and we had many meals there along with early morning coffee. It also was a nice quiet place to read a good book in an enclosed bug-proof setting.
The light and airy kitchen was well stocked with culinary equipment to make every meal easy to assemble.
The cottage also included a boathouse, which provided storage for fishing rods and bicycles.
There is easy access for kayaking and bike riding in the area. We took many nice walks during the early morning and evening hours.
A true Maine experience!
We absolutely loved our week in this cottage! We relish the past so we loved this quaint vintage cottage with all it's charm! Since it was chilly while we were there, we especially enjoyed the iron stove, it made the cottage so cozy. We did a lot of cooking and the kitchen was well equipped. We did bump our heads upstairs the first couple of days, and the stair/ladder was also a challenge, but we managed. Those challenges might need to be addressed a little more clearly in your overview of the cottage.
Overall, we loved our stay and the location surrounded by the beautiful woods, was probably one of our favorite features of the cottage. The little village is simply wonderful and we enjoyed some great meals at the local restaurants. The location made it so easy to run out for fresh lobster to cook for dinner, which we did several nights! Thanks for a great vacation week!
Thank you for your review. We're so pleased by how much you enjoyed our cottage and Tenants Harbor. Your response to the cottage about its simplicity and the location is very similar to ours. We enjoy our walks into the village and the restaurants there, with a choice of two on the water, Cod End and the Eastwind Inn's restaurant and pub. The propane, fireplace-like cast iron stove does comes in handy, especially off-season when it can be chilly at night and sometimes during the day. With regard to the ceiling in the bedrooms, if you're not concentrating, you can bump your head. My husband is much taller than I am and has been known to bump his head once or twice at the beginning of our stay, forgetting that the ridge-line of 6 ft., 6 in. tapers. I'll review the introductory text to see how I might modify that. Thank you for the suggestion.
