THE WOLF DEN in Twin Lakes, Colorado, sits in a quiet cove of aspen and pine just minutes away from Mount Elbert's "South Elbert" trailhead and a 30-minute drive to Ski Cooper in Leadville.
On 6 acres, this expansive home offers 5 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, sleeping 12 people with additional room for several more. (16 maximum guests.) Floor-to-ceiling windows and an open layout maximize the home’s incredible 180-degree views of Mt. Elbert, Hope Pass and the glacial waters of Twin Lakes.
Guests can listen to the buzz of summertime hummingbirds while sitting on the expansive flagstone patio. Or watch as a red fox explores fresh snow right outside the master bedroom window. Soak in Colorado flora and fauna at its finest!
The Wolf Den sleeps 10 in its main house with additional room for 2 in a private, attached garage apartment — allowing guests to either spread out or come together for meals, conversation or board games in multiple living areas.
After a day spent hiking, cycling, paddling, rafting, fishing, snowshoeing or skiing, you will truly unwind when you sink into one of our crisp and clean guest beds.

ADDITIONAL GUESTS: A sleeper sofa/air mattresses may be used as additional sleeping spaces for a maximum of 16 guests -- permitted only at the owner's discretion and prior approval. There will be an additional charge of $25/guest per night for each guest in addition to 12. (We do not permit more than 16 guests or visitors on our property at any time without owner's approval.)
A well-appointed modern kitchen and outdoor gas grill make it easy to cook for a hungry crowd. Dine at the large kitchen table or opt outside, where a dining table, chairs and unbeatable views create an unforgettable family dinner setting.
After dinner, roast s'mores on the outdoor fire pit, stargaze from the brand-new bubbling hot tub or curl up with a good book in the living room equipped with a gorgeous moss rock gas fireplace. Also found in the living room: a large flatscreen TV with DVD player and movies.
LOCATION: Centrally located, a 30-minute drive reaches some of Colorado’s famous mountain towns, including Leadville and Buena Vista. In summer/fall months, make a day trip to Aspen by means of the world-famous Independence Pass (a 1 hour drive). The Wolf Den is located right off the maintained county road, which makes winter access easy. The drive to the nearest ski area, Ski Cooper, is 27 miles.
LEADVILLE RACE EVENTS: The Wolf Den is an excellent place for Leadville 100 race participants and their families. Our driveway is located off of the Leadville Trail 100 MTB race course — a great spot for a cheer squad. The Leadville Trail 100 Run traces through the Twin Lakes aid station, just minutes away from the house. On race night, you can watch the glow of athletes’ headlamps as they travel Hope Pass.
DOG- AND FAMILY FRIENDLY: In addition to welcoming small- to medium-sized dogs upon approval (with a $175 fee for one; $250 for two), the Wolf Den is also kid and baby friendly. One full-sized crib is located within an upstairs bedroom, and 2 portable cribs are also stored for guest use. Two booster seats may be used for dining, and children may access a supply of toys and books carefully curated by our son.
WEDDINGS AND EVENTS: During summer and fall months, the wide flagstone patio and adjacent outdoor pavilion serve as excellent outdoor wedding settings for couples seeking a stunning mountain backdrop to their big day. The patio seats guests during ceremonies, and an outdoor gazebo can host seated meals. We consider any gathering of more than 16 guests an "event" and availability for these gatherings is extremely limited. Any gathering must be approved by owner, and guest will be required to agree to an event contract and pay a venue fee based on the number of guests present. No exceptions.
