Discover peace and privacy in your very own redwood grove at this two-bedroom Sea Ranch home, an architectural wonder with a wealth of innovative design, a private hot tub and patio, and a stunning location within earshot of the ocean.
Designed by the famed architect Joseph Esherick and recently featured in Monocle Magazine and Curbed, it was built as a demonstration house in 1968. This cozy three-level home sits on the eastern edge of Sea Ranch with no adjacent neighbors in sight. Here among the protected woodlands and the Timber Ridge Trail, you'll be one mile (across California Highway 1) from Black Point Beach; one mile from the heated pool, saunas, and tennis/pickleball court at the Moonraker Recreation Center; and nine miles south of downtown Gualala.
Step inside to find 684 square feet of living space designed in the classic Sea Ranch style, where works of art by Anthony Burrill, Robert Indiana, and Barbara Stauffacher Solomon compliment the woodland views, mid-century furnishings, and original architectural details.
Spend foggy mornings in the warmth of the wood-burning fireplace (logs are provided), lose yourself in a novel on the built-in wool sectional, or sit down to write at the small desk that overlooks the woods.
Move into the small galley kitchen to prepare breakfast as a soothing soundtrack streams on the Sonos Soundbar. This snug space makes innovative use of its square footage, offering black matte cabinets for your favorite Surf Market ingredients, a Nespresso machine for your morning espresso, and a selection of mid-century studio pottery to set out on the four-person dining table.
Leave the plates in the care of the dishwasher and head outside to the patio made from local redwood rounds. Curl up beneath the tree canopy with a fascinating book or monograph from the architecture-focused home library, take your dog for a walk on a local trail, and return home to light the gas grill for a lunchtime barbecue (please note that a dog bed and bowls are provided, but that a one-dog limit and a small nightly pet fee apply).
Spend your days taking in the view on Black Point Beach, and enjoy soothing soaks in the private hot tub. Back inside, you can throw your bathing suits in the washer/dryer, set out a board game or browse the WiFi on the cowhide rug, and settle in for a night of Netflix, Hulu, Blu-ray, and Xbox favorites on the 43-inch Smart LED TV (please note that a Hulu account with live TV is provided, but that guests must have their own Netflix account).
With two bedrooms and one full bathroom, this Sea Ranch escape will accommodate four guests. Head upstairs to find an open master bedroom with a queen-size bed and a bold vintage tapestry. On the other side of the hidden door is a bunk room complete with a concealed supergraphic and extra long twin bunks, each with its own window that opens to let in the sounds of the ocean.
Inside the full bathroom, you'll find a shower/tub, a heated towel bar, and a selection of peppermint shampoo, cilantro conditioner, and eucalyptus body wash by Malin+Goetz.
Whether you're an enthusiast of art and architecture or simply in search of a tranquil retreat, you'll be mesmerized by the beauty of Sea Ranch on the Northern California Coast. Take long strolls amid homes designed by Joseph Esherick, William Turnbull, and Charles Moore; check out the work of local artists at the Gualala Arts Center; or spend hours perusing the shelves at Four-Eyed Frog Books in town.
Pick up fresh bread each morning at Twofish Baking at Stewart's Point, and walk along the Bluff Trail to observe playful harbor seals and the occasional whale spout. Tee off at the cypress-lined Sea Ranch Golf Links seven miles north, take a drive to watch the sunset at the Point Arena Lighthouse 28 miles north, or sit down for dinner with a view at Coast Kitchen 16 miles south down Highway 1.
Come and enjoy a house with a style all its own - book your unforgettable trip to Sea Ranch today!
