Moonraker House is located approximately 107 miles north of San Francisco off historic and scenic Highway 1. Our house is one mile away from the ocean.
Our two bedroom, two bathroom home has an upstairs deck, private hot tub, WiFi, cable televisions, a fully equipped kitchen with bedroom linens and bathroom towels provided.
With 50 miles of private beach, bluff, and forest trails, picnic areas, tide pools, three recreational centers, two marine reserves, a fenced dog park, and an 18 hole championship golf course, there is something for everyone to do without leaving the local area.
Gualala, the closest town, is 8.7 miles north with grocery stores, specialty shops, restaurants, a bank, post office, and gas stations.
Six hundred fenced sheep and goats graze the common areas to eliminate fire hazards and follow The Sea Ranch philosophy of living lightly off the land.
The artist community of Mendocino is fifty-eight miles north and Fort Bragg is nine miles north of Mendocino. Both places are perfect day trips to explore, shop and eat. Charter boats are available for fishing and whale watching in Fort Bragg.
Grey whale migrate December through March and can often be seen off the shore or by boat.
Seal pups are born late March and early April and can be viewed from the bluff trail above the reserve.
Observe pelicans, cormorants, and oyster catchers from ocean bluffs and on the beach
Redwood violets and trilliums bloom around our house in March and April. Then in May and June the Rhododendrons are in full flower.

About Catherine Salm
My parents purchased our family vacation home in 1990 after several years of renting homes on The Sea Ranch and searching for the perfect home for us. My father wanted a house in the forest and my mother wanted something close to the ocean. This home is the perfect blending of the two.
Catherine Salm purchased this House in 1990
Why Catherine Salm chose Sea Ranch
We are blessed to be able to share our peaceful home with you. Since our house is located in the forest, we do not have the foot or road traffic the other places do. We rarely see people or cars in the area or on the trails nearby and appreciate the serenity. The ocean, towns and beaches are close by to explore and there are plenty of things to do in addition to just quietly relaxing in the redwoods.

The Perfect Getaway
This was the perfect weekend getaway! Close to Black Point beach, but also secluded and peaceful. Catherine was an incredibly receptive and a gracious host! We would definitely return!
Absolutely beautiful, cozy and clean surrounded by tall trees. The most relaxing vacation ever.
We just had the loveliest three days at Moonraker House. The house is very secluded, peaceful, spotlessly clean and stocked with every possible thing you can imagine. The beds are extremely comfortable and there are loads of cozy blankets all over the house. The fireplace is beautiful and you feel like you are in the middle of the Forrest in every room. All you need to bring is food and yourselves. The surrounding area is just gorgeous with numerous trails to amazing beaches or if you prefer to walk in the woods just hike up from the house instead of down. The Sea Ranch Lodge is a very short drive away for dinner and Gualala is about 15 to 20 minutes away. Gualala has all kinds of restaurants and the most fabulous supermarket called surf market with beautiful fresh fish and meat and all kinds of interesting ingredients for cooking. If you don't like to cook Trinks in the town sells ready made lamb meatloaf, mushroom lasagne, soups and much more. They also sell lovely pies and cakes and their garden has a gorgeous view of the ocean. Point Arena lighthouse is a 15 minute drive from Gualala and definitely worth the visit. It's the tallest lighthouse on the west coast. There is a nice breakfast place called Rollerville not far from the lighthouse. Franny's cup and saucer has really good donuts and cupcakes stuffed with mango purée. We tried to drive to Pier Chowder and tap room but the road was flooded:( On Main Street Lisa's lucious jams, chutneys, vinegars and more are well worth stopping to buy. She makes everything herself and uses very little sugar. It was pouring rain and so gorgeous when we left the house. We lit our last fire and sat in the hot tub surrounded by tall trees in the rain. We will definitely return as soon as possible. We didn't get a chance to check out the nearby pool, saunas and tennis courts because the house was just so lovely but we met people staying nearby who raved about swimming in the heated pools. The house is stocked with beautiful books, magazines, games, movies and more so it was very hard to tear ourselves away. Sea Ranch is extremely dark at night. It makes Bodega Bay seem like Las Vegas. There are bike rental places who will deliver bikes to you if biking is your thing and fishing, horse riding, kayaking and more all within a stones throw. At first glance Sea Ranch seems desolate but there is so much to do once you begin to explore and the people in the town are extremely friendly and kind.
Thank you so much!!!
Cozy, secluded, and peaceful...just what our City of Long Beach family needed!
This cabin was just what our family had been looking forward to. It was clean and well stocked, but still felt charming and homey with the sheep collection and soft linens. We loved the patio with the hot tub under the redwoods! There were nearby cabins, hidden through the trees, but we never saw another person, only a few wild turkeys wandering the street 😂 We drove into Gualala and hiked to a nearby beach, but our kids just wanted to get back to the cabin and explore the hidden creek down the hill from the cabin. Our stay was perfect!
Secluded gem in the redwoods. So clean even the windows sparkled! And the view from the windows was magnificent. We thoroughly enjoyed the privacy of the outdoor spa nestled in the redwoods.
The owner is extremely prepared and organized with instructions and the supplies available. She has thought of everything! Such a warm, cozy house. Comfortable beds and furniture. Love the small touches and the sheep collection. Sea Ranch also has so much to offer in trails and gorgeous nature. Added bonus that it is pet friendly. Will definitely hope to come back.
Exactly what wanted
Wonderful little home in the forest. Clean, comfortable, well stocked.
Great hot tub among the redwoods.
The house is ‘worn’ but that good way of a comfortable pair of shoes.
It was everything we needed and more for a weekend getaway.
A wonderful place to rest.
