Overview

About the property

Comfortable cabin-esque forest home, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Moonraker House is located approximately 107 miles north of San Francisco off historic and scenic Highway 1. The house is one mile away from the ocean.

Our two bedroom, two bathroom home has an upstairs deck, private hot tub, WiFi, cable televisions, a fully equipped kitchen with bedroom linens and bathroom towels provided.

With 50 miles of private beach, bluff, and forest trails, picnic areas, tide pools, three recreational centers, two marine reserves, a fenced dog park, and an 18 hole championship golf course, there is something for everyone to do without leaving the local area.

Gualala, the closest town, is 8.7 miles north with grocery stores, specialty shops, restaurants, a bank, post office, and gas stations.

Six hundred fenced sheep and goats graze the common areas to eliminate fire hazards and follow The Sea Ranch philosophy of living lightly off the land.

The artist community of Mendocino is fifty-eight miles north and Fort Bragg is nine miles north of Mendocino. Both places are perfect day trips to explore, shop and eat. Charter boats are available for fishing and whale watching in Fort Bragg.

Grey whale migrate December through March and can often be seen off the shore or by boat.

Seal pups are born late March and early April and can be viewed from the bluff trail above the reserve.

Observe pelicans, cormorants, and oyster catchers from ocean bluffs and on the beach

Redwood violets and trilliums bloom around our house in March and April. Then in May and June the Rhododendrons are in full flower.

The Sea Ranch thespians present two productions a year, one in spring, and one in fall.

About Catherine Salm

My parents purchased our family vacation home in 1990 after several years of renting homes on The Sea Ranch and searching for the perfect home for us.

My father wanted a house in the forest and my mother wanted something close to the ocean. This home is the perfect blending of the two.

Catherine Salm purchased this house in 1990

Why Catherine Salm chose North Coast

We are blessed to be able to share our peaceful home with you. Since our house is located in the forest, we do not have the foot or road traffic the other places do. We rarely see people or cars in the area or on the trails nearby and appreciate the serenity.

The ocean, towns and beaches are close by to explore and there are plenty of things to do in addition to just quietly relaxing in the redwoods.

Very cute home! Beautiful, secluded forest views in back of house

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was extremely peaceful & relaxing. The forest views, cozy home and abundant warm , sunny days made our trip perfect. The house was fully equipped with everything you needed. The photos posted on the website dont do the inside of the home justice. Its so much cuter in person. Bedrooms & bathrooms were also very nice & comfy. Hot tub was nice to use surrounded by forest beauty. It was sunk in on deck and I had a hard time getting in & out. Other than that, it was lovely. We enjoyed walking the close by trails & going to the beach several times to bask in the warm sun with our doggies. Communicating with the owner and renting was extremely easy & pleasant! We look forward to returning again next year. Thank you!

Beautiful, quiet, and relaxing cabin; perfect for a getaway

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I wanted to get away to celebrate our 4 year anniversary, and this was exactly what we hoped for. From basically right outside the cabin you can access beautiful trails through the woods, and it's a short walk or drive down to the beach and bluff trails. After miles of hiking and walking, the hot tub was just what we needed to finish off the day. We both agreed we would love to have a home like this someday.

We had a lovely time in this tranquil home! Perfectly located just far enough away to feel like you're in a secluded Paradise...but minutes from amenities and the ocean.

Peaceful Retreat in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful find! We needed some uninterrupted time to get work done, as well as a few days of respite and this home was perfect for both! The house is tucked away in the woods while just a few minutes away from the ocean, and a short drive from Gualala. We particularly liked that there were no neighbors/dogs in immediate sight as our dog gets anxious around other dogs. Our dog had fun being walked on the property while checking out all the interesting smells. The most exciting "neighbors" were turkeys strutting up and down the street. We had a couple days of torrential rain and loved hearing the creek that sounded like a mighty river down in the ravine behind the house. We can't wait to return. Thanks for sharing your home with us!

Cozy home in the woods, close to the ocean

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I couldn't stop gushing about how wonderful this home is and it helped make our vacation perfect. The house feels like a home the minute you walk in and has a rustic charm to it with all of the wooden beams and paneling. It is three stories and sits up on a hill, secluded in the redwoods. We were less than a mile walk from Black Pointe Beach and had multiple hiking trails in the forest and down at the coast. We could have easily spent two weeks there and ended up extending our stay one more night than we'd originally planned.

We enjoyed the hot tub, which is deep and very hot, every day/night on the deck surrounded by forest and were able to stargaze every night. We were fortunate to be able to bring our little dog with us. He had a blast too and loved bird watching out the living room windows. The house has three stories (downstairs are the two bedrooms and a full bath, main level is the kitchen/ living room with a full bath, and the upstairs is a really neat loft area with a sun deck off the side). Husband and I were in major need for a vacation in nature to refill our souls and get rid of everyday stresses. This place helped all of that!

We ended up cooking dinner every night in the well equipped kitchen. We went to Surf Market (a 10 minute drive to Gualala) daily to pick up fresh, local seafood and ate like kings. We also spent an afternoon horseback riding on the beach with Ross Ranch (Amazing!). We are definitely making it back here as often as possible.

Catherine, our host, was super helpful the entire time. My husband said that out of all the vacations we've taken so far, this was his number one and I totally agree. Thank you, Catherine!
